Should we trade Aaron Davey?

Featured Replies

Davey has never stood up in a Final or a big game. Ever.

Those that have been frequenting these Boards for years would know how often I've mentioned this as a concern.

H, is aaron more likely to be effective when he's the second small bloke tagged rather than the first...OR would he be useful to drag a defender out to the midfield leaving wonna or maric with a lesser defender and more space?

Davey doesn't crumb goals off packs, this is more Wonaeamirri's go. Davey is at his best when he's pushing outside forward 50 and manages to get goalside of his opponent. Sweeping on to a loose ball goalside of his opponent being his trade mark. I don't mind short bursts in the midfield, but he doesn't have the physicality, work ethic, or penchant for the contest to spend prolonged periods there. So to answer your question it's option B for me, but he needs to work harder inside and outside of that 50 metre arc.

His forward defensive pressure makes him a handy player, although much of that was lacking this year. I also find him dispensible due to some of the concerns I've always had about him, such as his inability to front on tackle and not always being prepared to stick his head over it. I'm happy to keep him, but I'd look to see what was on the table.

He's actually a bit overrated, He's handy when he's got the ball & can run & carry & can kick quite nice, but he's nowhere near dynamic enough, & simply doesn't win enough of his own footy.

He would be a great for a strong team that needs a little spice.

But he's not exactly what we Ideally need right @ this moment.

However, an earlier 1st rnd pick, plus another 2nd rnder would add substantially to our growing of young talent & the chances of unearthing a superstar of the comp'.

Not dynamic enough?

HE HAS HAD A CHRONIC ANKLE PROBLEM FOR 2 YEARS!!! Its been terrible, should have had it fixed a long time ago, but it kept returning, he is now finally ready for a full pre-season.. go on, call the club, ask them how bad his ankle was..

Lets see how dynamic he is now taht its finally been properly operated on, and had the scar tissue removed..

Look, he's simply not enough of a "natural footballer" for my liking,. Yes, he can be exciting @ times, but he doesn't control the game @ all, when he could.

With the attributes he's got, he should be a lot better, more like Shaun Burgoyne or such.

4. THE LONG HAUL AND THE PREMIERSHIP PLAN from the age

No club has planned so meticulously to win a premiership as Hawthorn, which followed a long-term philosophy of building a team via the draft and was willing — and luckily, able — to offload mid-20s players such as Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Hay, who didn't fit the premiership model . "They had a plan, they stuck to it, and they were rewarded with a premiership," said a senior football department official.

"They were brave with their trading."

The Hawks arrived at their destination two years before schedule, which will influence rivals' attitudes to trading/drafting. Paradoxically, it happened faster for a team that took its time.

So we could likely trade Green and Davey based on that model! And possibly Miller! Not sure on his age.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
