My 3 word player analysis V The Loins

Bailey summed up our ruck problems prety well. He said neither White or Jamar had been good enough. They gave Jamar more responsibility to see how he'd respond and would be reviewing the tapes to scrutinise his performance. IMO he at least broke even with a quality ruck in Charman. He did a bit around the ground, and his presence at the stoppages is much better than Whites atm.

Based on what we've seen from Bails this year the big russian will get at least 3 games to prove himself as first ruck. He's playing for his career right now and I think he responded pretty well yesterday. Get off his back people! Take off the blinkers and give the bloke a fair go. To claim he was useless yesterday only displays your ignorance, I'm not claiming he was a matchwinner, but he was far from useless.

I think P.J has cemented himself as preferred second ruck as he is far more versatile than Jamar. If Jamar can't manage to hold down first ruck by seasons end he will probably be moved on, some clubs may be interested in him as a back up ruckman and by giving him an extended run he may show enough to be considered for that. The only way to get any value for the years we've invested in him is to play him now. White has been a great servant but unfortunately has little value to our future.

Harsh on Bate I thought. He had a bad 3rd quarter but was solid otherwise... and his last 5 minutes netted 2 inside fifties...

Good point Dappa. It was Bater that intercepted Black's handball about 50 out and, off one step, lobbed the kick into the square for Miller to mark and kick the winning goal. A fairly important piece of play in the context of the game..... Bater might have been down a bit but wasn't out of it... 18 possies, 8 tackles, 1 great spoil and a hitout...and the assist to the winning goal......should be selected next week...

Of course he will be selected next game, he is a required player FCS. He's a developing gun midfielder come leadup CHF.

Here's a curly one, if you seriously wanted to drop him, who would you drop him for?

Exactly.......fair dinkum some people have no clue about football.

Excuse me!

Tongue firmly planted in cheek.

High Tower has made 158 posts in one week - he is therefore tired and failed to detect the obvious sarcasm. :D

OMG 158, then it's quite understandable and forgivable.

Cheers to HT!

Watt's reputation is quickly growing amongst the "experts", if we mangage to finish 14-15th, missing out on natanui mightnt be such a bad thing, especially with Watts being a victorian boy

my sentiments exactly

if we keep going the way we are l reckon its odds on we will get Watts

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
