  1. Spoke to mate yesterday and they might scratch the horse again. If they go ahead with the scratching he will have a jump out on Monday to keep him ticking over and race at Caulfield next Saturday. I also like De Little Engine for the cup Wadda. Great run last time.
  2. The Zephyr has accepted for the 1400m Gold Bullion but once again has drawn the car park. Barrier 16 from 16, no luck with the barriers at the moment. Looks like a very tricky race and quite tough to win it. Scroll to race 8 to check out the early form. http://racingaustralia.horse/FreeFields/Acceptances.aspx?Key=2017Dec09,VIC,Racing.com Park
  3. Hi Wadda, Dan Zephyr has been nominated for two decent races at Pakenham this coming Saturday. A 1200m handicap and the 1400m Gold Bullion. Both races carry good prize money and we will find out tomorrow which race they choose when acceptances come out. He was scratched on Ballarat Cup day because of the wide barrier (14) but my mate was a little peeved when they bypassed the Ballarat race and chose Warrnambool a few days later and accepted with barrier 13. Not much difference there so he couldn't quite understand the decision. As it turned out the Bool meeting was abandoned and the horse has done some good work since his last run. Will have more updates later on this week.
  4. .......and meeting abandoned.
  5. Dan Zephyr racing tonight at Warnambool Race 7 at 7pm. I have no word as yet, I see he's drawn wide again though. Sorry for the late notice, i was made aware a short time ago.
  6. By golly, 80% of 185,000, wow. That stings mate! You make a great point about common sense prevailing, we were so wrapped up in the all up at 85/1 we didn't stop to think if we were to win the bet we would also get the quad if we went field/field. My mate was away all weekend so I'll speak to him tonight and find out about Dan and the reason they scratched him and also future plans. I missed the races last Saturday at Ascot due to work, look forward to you and Macca giving me some tips this weekend.
  7. Hi Wadda, Dan Zephyr has been a great little horse for connections. He's had some terrific runs. If you look a bit further back on October of 2016 he ran 4th to Redzel by 1.9 lengths first up at $51. We know Redzel is possibly the best sprinter in the country right now. Here is a story that will make you shake your head. An ex stablemate of Dan was a horse by the name of Shakespearean Lass which I was also a part of a while back. My mate stayed in as a part owner and both horses ran at Caulfield in February of 2016. Dan was in the opening leg of the quaddie and the Lass was in the second leg. My mate and I took the all up on fixed odds at 85-1. Both horses saluted that day but do you think we placed a quaddie? Third and fourth legs of the quad paid about $20 each for the win and the quad that day paid in excess of 100k. If we had placed even $20 for a quaddie it would have given us about 15% with field/field in the last two legs. We still talk about that missed opportunity. As they say ' That's Racing!'
  8. The MFC faithful to change Oskar Bakers nickname from ' The Ginga Ninja' ( cool nickname btw) to ' The Bread Man' as he will deliver the goods when selected mid-season.
  9. Hi Wadda, not sure why they scratched the horse, will keep you posted on its next run.
  10. Hi all. Dan Zephyr has accepted on Ballarat Cup day. Lumped with 61kg but Jack Martin will take the ride and claim the 3kg. Once again unlucky drawing barrier 14. Will have more updates later in the week to determine whether the horse is worth a buck or two.
  11. Hi Macca, we finished season 2 of 'Stranger Things' a few days ago. We thought it was brilliant entertainment. Knew very little about the show, so glad I had a look at this thread. I'll put 'Chance' on the list, we enjoy the thrillers, cheers. We need to watch as much TV as possible to combat the long wait for the ' Game Of Thrones' finale.
  12. We see it time and time again, but how good is the Jetta sidestep? Great to hear the Perth crowd cheer when he left a couple of Irish players standing still.
  13. Looking forward to it. Yes, McLeod rode much better today, my mate is still in a bit of shock after losing to that horse. The eventual winner trialled and finished 9.8 lengths 5th of 5 last month at Echuca. Lol, you just have to love racing!
  14. Thought it was home also, had my friend on the phone and he said the same thing. Beaten by a horse that's been out since January 2015 and the only horse to make ground from the back all day. That's racing though! Will definitely keep you posted on future runs, my friend also part owns a stablemate called El Magnificence which has shown some promise with a 4th and win in his only two starts. Currently spelling but when it returns it could be one to keep an eye out on.
  15. Final word. Horse has travelled well, looking to get a sit one out one back. There's a possibility the pace won't be on early so he could end up leading if he can't get a sit behind the leaders. They are there to win today, hopefully the horse fires. Hope that helps, this is not a certain tip by any means. I would be a tad upset if he got up and I didn't have a dollar on it, it would be nice if some fellow demonlanders were on it if it gets up. Good luck all.
  16. A few scratchings in the Dan Zephyr race, the horse comes in a couple of barriers and I see he's into $10. I should be receiving a call within an hour or so to see what the latest is.
  17. My thoughts exactly. Connections most of the time think their horses have a decent chance of winning a race. Rhys McLeod rode a horrible race last start and they are a bit worried about him being on board again. I have followed the horse from day 1 as I sold out of him when he was a 3 year old. It's more of an interest for me these days. Pat Carey has given the horse every chance of winning by his training for this race, it's just comes down to the horse being good enough tomorrow.
  18. The horse has trained well and connections think he's a good chance. Best fixed I have seen so far is $13. They thought the horse might be longer odds than that. The aim is to be on pace again and hoping the horse gets an easy run across from the wide barrier. He will get back to me tomorrow lunchtime with the final thoughts and I will post an update. Hope you all had a good final day of the Flemington carnival.
  19. Nice tale Wadda. Dan Zephyr was certainly hot a couple of years ago winning 3 in a row in town. My mate is not a fan of Rhys McLeod but he seems to be the Pat Carey stable jockey. Michael Dee has a better strike rate on the horse. I see it's drawn wide and does it's best racing on pace so it might have to work early unless they change tactics.
  20. Missrock has been a tad costly for me in the past but at those odds she might be worth a little each way. If it's a hot pace she may indeed run on Macca.
  21. I did like Tom Melbourne when markets first opened up but I see they scratched it so I'll have to do some more reading later on. On another note a friends horse is running on Sunday at Ararat in the China Bowl. Dan Zephyr is the name, he won the same race last year. Connections bypassed a Group 3 at Flemington for this race. The horse is 3rd up this preparation, last run wasn't very good but first up he was unlucky as he was boxed in and couldn't get a clear run. I'll have more information tomorrow to see if it's worth a few bucks.
  22. Thanks Ethan, you recommended " The Fall", finished all of it and enjoyed it. The wife and I just finished Stranger Things season 1 and we loved it. Onto season 2, keep recommending the good stuff.
  23. Yes he was hindered by injury since the 2015 cup but reportedly still possesses a devastating sprint. 73kg is excessive, not sure how common that is over there. Being a quality horse maybe that was his penalty in such a weak handicap. He paid a whopping $1.40 that day.
  24. Good morning, no he didn't, he's only had 4 runs since the 2015 cup. He won last start overseas carrying 73kg in what I believe was an $18,000 race. Smart move I guess. Comes in at a good weight.
  25. There's always great debate about certain runners gaining starts in the great race and hard luck stories of horses missing out. It wouldn't be difficult in this day and age to alter a few numbers in the system and allow emergencies to gain a start especially when there is a scratching two days out. Will the VRC ever head down that path?
