Time will tell, starting this week ,when we see if the energy is back. I still think the forward line is iffy and Hogan made a difference after a he got his match timing right and Hannan is a significant contributor. As for the North game, we lost by 4 points got smashed in the last 15 minutes by a strong mature midfield who out muscled us and don't forget they flogged Adelaide down in Hobart and kicked 10 with the wind. The order is win the next three games and we will play finals

I am surprised that no one has pinged Trac. His last 2 games have been poor. Trying to take on the field and getting caught in the tackle and holding the ball. If you want to make a statement then let Trac know he isn't an automatic selection every week. Also can the coaches instruct Clarry to kick the ball. If we want quicker movement out of stoppages we need to stop over handling and kick the ball. Kick it into space and let someone run onto the ball instead of 3 handballs and trying to pinpoint someone in a one on one. Hannan is very important, as he is the mobile 3rd target and where is a small goal kicking forward as we have lost the spread of goals from the mid field in the last 2 games. Richmond have shown the effectiveness of a set up with quick small forwards who run to space with only 1 key forward. Need to see if Salem's ankle is ok later in week and if Melksham gets a week as the 2 potential outs and Trac maybe. In Hannan, JKH and Gus.

I noted last week Hannan who has been a superb find was off early getting his arm and elbow treated. Came back with a heavy bandage and no surprise if he is out injured. Bernie for Trenners, Weid for Hogan, Jones for JKH and Maynard for Hannan

VFL Development League - competition to finish
Older demon replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow that is a big step. May be good news for the VAFA though. Amateur clubs that have players nominated to play at VFL clubs without a development league team benefit and have greater player availability i.e. Collingwood and Footscray as opposed to sandringham which has a development team.- 35 replies

Thanks Saty. Did you speak to Nev today? He is such a leader.

Mission stated yesterday that they will treat conservatively and wait 2 weeks. At that stage they will decide if they tape it up and let him try and finish of the season or send him off for season ending surgery.

A question for this learned group. For indiginous round Dion Johnstone was quoted as saying his grand dad play VFL but I can find no reference to who, but Dion said he was a champion of the game. Does anybody know who he was referring to? This article from 2016 refers to his path to the draft and followed Rioli to Scotch on an indigenous scholarship. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/localfooty/dion-johnstone-travels-long-road-from-warrnambool-to-tac-cup-team-oakleigh-chargers/news-story/992029756feee11bac636d3d33f073a1

Garlett has returned to W.A for family reasons, reported on news last night. Doubt about his availability this round
-
The club track record for caring for players has been impeccable and it is ridiculous to even contemplate that Kent was treated negligently. His shoulder was back in place as he was in a sling and pain relief would have been administered when the injury was assessed and put back in place. We have no idea of when the Channel 7 footage was taken and I find it a bit intrusive. As stated earlier there was a staff member in attendance. It is more likely that due to the heat he stayed in the air con and that the only spot to watch the game was from the chair placed in front of the viewing area.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17
Older demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
No surprise if there is NO changes -
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Older demon replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
SEN also said that Hawks, Demons and another were right into Lever but Jason McCartney recruiting manager and Lever are good mates and the respective families are friends. The Crows will want suitable compensation. Re Frost he wanted to return to Melbourne where his family are cannot see him wanting to go interstate, nor would I want him to go as I obviously rate him much better than many others on here. -
The clown says he didn't swear and it was incidental. So in his version, he is playing it down to suit himself. I would not believe a word he says and he has no right to get up and touch a player. Clarry did not land in row one,Mr Aquiro got out of his seat and leant over the fence to gave Clarry a spray and touched him, now he wants an apology. I hope he cops a fine and is banned from the G for the rest of the season
-
So he wants an apology for calling Olie soft and admits making incidental contact. Oliver's version "He called me a soft c and made contact" he was warned not to do it again. Bulltish of the highest order. You make contact with a player you should expect to be kicked out and fined.

I thought his head snapped back after an elbow to the jaw. Different angle showed it better and less likely to be a dive. greenwood will be having a holiday.

Out of left field. Max in game 2 said that Kruezer had given him grief in the past and was happy to match him in round 2 so maybe the club will return to the JLT experiment of 2 tall ruckmen. Spencer to Kruezer and Max the marking forward. That would put enormous pressure on their back who always play the extra man back. I thought our lack of tall marking power up forward hurt us last week as many kicks under finals type pressure were to a contest and easily defended. Viney will be out as will Bugg and White struggled. Tyson still a slim chance to get up as there was no structural damage to his knee. Carlton strength lies in Kruezer, Murphy, Gibbs, Crips in the middle and run of half back. Goody with strategy will go a long way to deciding this match.

I was at the junior clinic yesterday and the only players excused were those on crutches Viney & Tyson and those at the tribunal. The players have today and tomorrow off and many are still a bit sore from Friday and cumulative games. Friday training will determine player suitability. The kids ask all sorts of questions and Jeffy was direct when asked he expects to play Sunday against his old team. Watts looked after basketball drills and didn't do much I doubt he got out of a brisk walk.

The way Roos and now Goody coach is they bring a player in and give him a role. So for Jack to come in what role would they want him to play? Of late he has been playing half back at Casey and to quote Plapp, "Learning a new role". I don't think we need another half back (quarterback) at the moment. If Hogan returns I expect we will play one less mid anyway. On this basis I would be pleasantly surprised if Jack is selected

Barring other injuries I expect Bugg, Viney Tyson and White to be out. We all wondered why White jumped ahead of the other form players and now we know why, he wasn't up to the task at the moment. If available Hogan, Garlett and Watts would come in automatically and JKH, Ben Ken and Kent may be considered. In line with other weeks, I expect changes to be kept to a minimum
-
So who at channel 7 and the HS reads Demonland as I assume this is where the story broke! They did the team and themselves no favours and explains why White was selected and Dion Johnstone was an emergency. I am sure when they had the session they didn't know Salem and Kent would be out. I don't think is was a little drink either if they were noticeably untidy at the next training session. Maybe they didn't think they would be noticed. Very brave of the club to draw a line in the sand re behaviour as it was clearly going to impact on the Swans game and team selection.

They did not appoint a vice-captains as we have co-captains never imagining we would lose both. Have to look to the leadership group but in this situation, they only need to nominate someone to toss the coin as the entire leadership group needs to stand up and LEAD. To cover injuries everybody needs to lift a bit

Just who was on the tribunal tonight? Ex players who believe in the old code and let Schofield off. Tonight made no sense both for Houli or Schofield to get off so lightly, perhaps Houli getting 2 meant they couldn't give Schofield the same penalty. I think we all believe that a Melbourne player would not have been dealt with so leniently. I think even less of West Coast with their defence belittling both Clarry and the umpire who laid the report. The MRP have no credibility

When he was recruited, Robert Shaw was of the opinion that at that stage Chris was the most influential player in the competition. He understood why Roos targeted him as he was then and is now rarely beaten, very competitive and hard at it as well as being a beautiful kick. I note that in the picture of the top 10 draftees that year, 3 are at other clubs, Boyd, Freeman and Aish have all moved on.
