  1. It's actually quite impressive! They've yet to score in the first quarter. The 110 points that they've now given up as they just got scored on again is the total number of points against them in the first half. They're averaging giving up nearly 30 points a half.
  2. The team has been better in the second half, but still haven't won a game. 0-6 record.
  3. Here in the states i'm a journalist. The college football team which I cover has been outscored 103-6 in the first half this year. I think i'm a masochist.
  4. Oh wow that's amazing. As a journalist, i'd never quote someone's twitter account unless it was A) verified, or 2) I knew for an absolute fact it was their twitter account. What poor journalism.
  5. Just wanted to say, i'm having a conversation about the game on Twitter with a guy who lives in my city. As an American fan, this is huge for me! I've never had anyone here in the States to talk about footy with!
  6. haha State College is pretty crazy when it comes to a love of Football (especially college football) I like the NFL, but i think AFL is so much more fun to watch. It's a lot more exciting and entertaining to me.
  7. Why don't you think I am? Lived here for my whole life. Although, not gonna lie, there's part of me that wishes I wasn't an American. haha
  8. A lot of it was the history of the club, and when I started looking into the team, I loved watching Liam Jurrah. Also a big part of me becoming a fan was reading and learning about Jim Stynes. The more I learned about the club, i just really grew to love the team. And I'm fairly optimistic for the future. I think we may have a few more rough seasons but I definitely think we're on the rise. Actually reminds me a lot of my favorite MLB team. Last season, they nearly filed for bankruptcy, had a horrible owner, who basically ran one of the biggest franchises into the ground (I'm a LA Dodgers fan if anyone cares) But they made a few good off season signing, got a new owner, and are now actually having a decent season. I don't think the Demons will be as quick of a turn around but I really think it isn't too far off. If Trengove can adjust and play like he had in the past, and Watts continues to develop, and we get a few signings during the trade period and draft well I think we'll see an improvement next season. But maybe i'm just delusional and a glutton for punishment.
  9. I talked about it in another thread, but basically, I'd been watching AFL on and off for a few years but didn't have anyone I supported. At the time I was a big fan of Hamish and Andy, i'd get up every morning an hour earlier than I had to and listen to a podcast of their show (back when they did a show every day) I had been feeling like it was time to pick a team, and had started looking at different teams, I hadn't really looked into Melbourne then one day I found out Hamish supported the Dees, so I thought i'd read up on them. I really loved what I learned about the club, I read a lot about Jim Stynes, and Ron Barassi, so then I started watching them play and instantly fell in love with Liam Jurrah. His playing style was so exciting and fun to watch. So, I decided the Dees would be my team. Got up at 3 am to watch my first game as a Demons fan, and watched them get clobbered by West Coast last season. Around the same time, I sent an email to the club asking a question about something, and didn't hear back from them till just last month. When they replied, the woman apologized for being so slow to get back to me, and said the club would like to send me an autographed team picture (which is now proudly hanging in my apartment.) Also on another AFL forum I go to I posted that story about the club sending me that picture and three or four other people told me stories about how the Demons really treat their fans well, and shared some really cool stories about the club going above and beyond in being good to fans. I know we had a horrible season, and will probably have another hard season next year, but i'm hooked. They're my team and dammit I love them. Besides, i'd rather support a [censored] team that I love and have reasons to support, than Collingwood, Essendon, or Carlton. I like knowing I have reasons why I'm a Deemons fan, and didn't just pick a club because they're good.
  10. I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan, how about you?
  11. I'm an American fan of the Demons. Been a fan of the Dees for two years now, and a fan of AFL for probably around 4 years, but didn't have a favorite team the first few seasons and only occasionally watched games.
  12. Googled it and found a free preview on Google Books, looks amazing, and you inadvertently helped my find a poem (or could be the lyrics to a song, i'm not sure) i'd come across two years ago, and have been looking everywhere for. The one that's right before the first chapter, titled Smithy"
  13. That looks great. I'll look more into the website tomorrow when i'm not half asleep haha
  14. I've been trying to find some things to watch or read about the club. I really want to get Jim Stynes book, but haven't been able to yet. I've watched a documentory on Jim on YouTube, I believe it was called Every Heart Beats True (I as very saddened that I was only a Demons fan for a little over a year when he died. What an amazing man he was.) Are there any other videos out there? Or classic matches I should watch? I'd love if anyone could link me to anything cool about the club. I'm kind of a nerd and love reading about club history, great players, great moments and such. Thanks for the help guys!
  15. So is there anyone currently who would be considered a current rival? Sorry for the questions, I just want to learn about the club haha
  16. I agree. I really hope he can come back. The excitement of Aussie and Liam were one of the things that made me fall in love with this team.
  17. Who do we hate the most? Do we have a big rival team?
  18. Thats what I assumed, just double checking! It's funny since I started learning about the AFL i've found ever team has stereotypes. Western Bulldogs-scrappy team, bad luck Richmond-what we could call over here, white trash. North Melb-no one seems to know enough supporters to figure out what they are. Collingwood- Inbred. I feel like i've learned a lot haha
  19. Hey, i already know how to ski! And I enjoy chardonnay! I've heard this stereotype a few times for Demons fans, how true is it? Are there a lot of rich upper-class Demon fans?
  20. Haha no, Portland Trailblazers...who haven't won anything in my lifetime...I'm beginning to think I might be a masochist.
  21. I sincerely hope you weren't a fan in the 80s. Two of the most heartbreaking super bowl loses, haha
  22. Yeah, they're doing surprisingly well this season. It's been a long few years for Dodger fans.
  23. Online, a few games a week get put on TV, but i've never seen Melbourne games. It's always Collingwood, Essendon, and Carlton who get the airtime over here.
