  1. Heartfelt and classy. Well done, Jesse. As an aside it seems Jesse demanding an 8 year contract was rubbish. He signed for three!
  2. The overall picture is: We have 7 senior list vacancies and 7 pics if we need them. We won't need them if we run with less than 40 players on our list or we take a delisted free agent. I will update the 'Contracts' thread after pick trading closes in a few days and we know about the length of May, Preuss and Kolodjashnij contracts. Edit: Just heard we have done a pick trade with the Saints: 36 and 46 for their 28. So the above table is picks: 23, 28, 54, 62 etc Not a bad hand given our earliest pick was 36 ? Who knows there me still be a player trade to be done...certainly there are plans for pick 23 and 28!! Go Josh!!
  3. There is a lot on here of Jessie's shortcomings. Many on here happy to pot him on his way out. I loved watching him play and he was an important part of our team while it was being rebuilt. He was our only key forward for a few years (Clarke and Dawes always injured). He deserves recognition for sticking around when he could have left and spent more time with his dad. Thanks Jessie for sticking with us during our tough times. All the best at Freo. Hope going home brings you the happiness you are seeking.
  4. Yes, pre-recorded interviews - virtual live reality!!
  5. Still looks fine to be - If 6 is acceptable to GCS for May and KK it doesn't matter that it isn't #5. Whatever gets the deal done.
  6. This is the result when nothing of note happens in the trade period. Reporters just make stuff up! https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-whispers-young-fremantle-players-could-be-circuitbreakers-for-jesse-hogan-deal/news-story/6d5dbe87393d2fb06af54e56b7e89861 The excommunicated demon fan, Tom Morris hypothesises that a young gun Freo player might be part of the Hogan deal. It is an embarrassing article as it is so obvious he made it up (par for the course I guess).
  7. Interesting that the Hawkes initially thought they would need to give a 1st round pick for HWSNBN. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-16/inside-story-why-scully-became-a-hawk-steal "The wider football public was already up in arms when it emerged this week that Hawthorn's third-round choice – No.53 overall – might get the job done, but even that was being too generous...This is a player who was an All Australian nominee in 2016 and 2017 and is considered the AFL's best two-way runner, someone who routinely covers an extraordinary 18km in game". One has to wonder about the background negotiations that led to a 3rd round pick instead!
  8. For those wondering how we are going to fill our list vacancies: if the Hogan trade goes down as mooted (May, Kolodjashnij and #23) we will have 7 vacancies and 7 draft picks between 23 and 91. Options to fill vacancies: use the late picks to make rookies (Keilty and T Smith) senior players then replenish our rookie stocks in the rookie draft have a senior list of < 40 players (38 is the minimum) take delisted players, which don't require draft picks so some draft picks remain used. If 3. the unused picks can be traded to a team needing draft points for a higher pick. Pick trading can happen on Thur and Friday. Then again during the draft as we have Live Pick Trading this year. How many picks we take to the draft is yet to be seen but we have plenty of options to fill our list.
  9. Geelong have lost the plot! "Geelong has turned up the heat on West Coast as it bids for Tim Kelly by demanding a future first-round pick be included in any trade for the contracted midfielder...AFL.com.au understands the Cats have asked for the Eagles' first-round selection in next year's draft in addition to West Coast's existing offer of picks No.20 and No.22". That will be Eagle's pick 15-18 in 2019 - effectively 3 low 1st round picks for someone who has played for one year. Kelly has been terrific but his longevity has not been tested. Think the Cats are dreaming!
  10. Agreed, I kept quiet but was shattered when there were rumours on here that he might be up for trade. Couldn't cope with he, Tyson and Bernie going simulatneously!
  11. That we are essentially replacing Hogan with a backman says Hogan is superfluous to our needs ie there really isn't a role for Jessie in our team. That there was talk of playing him in defence (with or without May) reinforces that. We are moving Jessie at the right time and three players for one: May, KK and #23 is a good deal. Assuming, we find a temporary/permanent solution to outside speed with who we have or get, there is every chance we will not have any real weaknesses in our team next year. Sure performances will vary but the team overall will be very strong.
  12. " Port Adelaide – which hold picks 6 and 10 – and Adelaide (8 and 13) were both working on ways...to acquire pick five". https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/no-5-is-alive-as-sa-clubs-try-to-claim-local-talent-20181016-p50a10.html So who will end up holding pick 5: Lions, Freo, Demons, Suns, Port, Crows? I wouldn't put it past Freo to trade Neale for #5 + something (mooted to be a Coll 1st round pick for Beams), then cash in #5 with Crows/Power or keep it for themselves. Freo can't lose: Get Hogan on the cheap by offering a lower round 1 pick from the SA club (plus something) or take the SA picks to the draft.
  13. This whole trade period has become a farce!! Deliberately holding back announcing deals for Foxtel is ludicrous. Not one deal of significance has gone thru. Pending: Shiel Wingard Scully Lobb Kelly Beams Neale Hogan May That is a lot to get done in a few hours. Wouldn't be surprised if they start filming at Noon to make sure the paperwork is done in time. Then edit it down to a few hours to make it 'interesting and to look 'live' but delay putting it to air.
  14. How do you know - Mahoney was suggesting otherwise...
  15. I agree. With 5 they will have 2, 3, 5, 19, 24, 29, plus some later picks. With the 3 state league players coming in they don't have enough list spots to use all their picks - at my last count they have 3 spots (after May and Kade K go). I can see one of 19, 24, 29 coming back to us for some of our back end 2019 picks (3rd/4th round). They are keen to get points for next year's academy players so that sort of pick swap really works for them. I am only guessing but this is what makes sense to get a fair deal on May and it helps GCS with their 2019 list management. As an aside, if anyone thinks we shouldn't help GCS it is worth remembering that they helped us get Oliver, even after Howe put a spanner in the works and detoured to Pies.
  16. GCS Update on May and Kade: Cameron suggested Brisbane’s pick five, which could go to Fremantle for Lachie Neale before moving to Melbourne for Hogan, would provide the linchpin for any May deal...we’re at the end of that chain and we’ll wait and see what happens," he said. "We’ll get something done with Kade either today or tomorrow," Cameron said...If they come to us with something around Steven then it might be tied into that, that’s a fair way off as I said." http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-16/may-happy-to-move-to-a-victorian-club The key point for me is pick 5 is the linchpin for a May deal ie there will be other +/- . I read that as GCS adding to May with picks or player(s) depending on when it gets done.
  17. I didn't take @Leoncelli_36comments as a criticism and its a reasonable question/concern. Mahoney said: “For our scenario, there’s a few of the bigger decisions that need to be made, and then other decisions will fall off the back of that.” http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-10-08/day-one-trade-wrap As the bigger decisions (Hogan/May) haven't been made we simply don't know what the 'other decisions' are (except maybe KK) so its fair to raise the question of what other deals are held up or will be missed.
  18. Hilarious!! Thanks for a few laughs on a dull day. Perfectly, described!!
  19. LINE-BREAKING midfielder Aaron Hall has been traded from Gold Coast to North Melbourne. The Roos handed over a fourth-round draft pick (No.68) to seal the deal, as reported by AFL.com.au on Monday. Quite a few seemingly good players are being traded at picks 50+ : Kent, Lycett, Rohan, Scully, Hall, Sam Lloyd and I'm sure there are others. Just shows that most clubs are about cleaning up their list than sweating over picks.
  20. Adelaide will likely wait till player trading is over tomorrow night and do something with picks in the following two days when pick trading is allowed (but no player trade). So, by that time it will be too late to 'Get May'. Or Adelaide wait till trade night and Live Pick Trading. Just can't see Adelaide doing a pick trade deal before player trading closes. If they were willing Freo would do it with pick 5 first. The way I see it happening is that Freo will do a deal with Brisbane even if it requires a back flip by Bell and take 5 (and maybe a late pick sweetener to 'save face') then shaft us as much as he can on the Hogan deal. In which case they will probably take pick 5 to the draft and cash in on the night - it will be worth more then than in the next week if (as is highly likely) one of the SA lads is still available.
  21. Many of us feel that way. But if the two picks are for example, 11 and 16 there isn't much point if it doesn't get the May deal done. I'm sure we could draft two very good players at 11 and 16 but that is not mfc's end game this year. The end game is: 'Get May'. There is a reason the club would be prepared to accept 23 as part of the deal. For all we know the club could be indifferent on players available between pick 15 and 25 so we may get the player type we want at 23. And by all accounts the draft falls away quickly after pick 7. So I would rather 5 and 23 than two first round picks so we can 'Get May' and keep 23 for the draft (or pick upgrade).
  22. This is significant. As you imply any in-principle agreements happened before Bell started his job. On starting he naturally asks for a trade update, doesn't like what he sees, delves deeper, still doesn't like it and stops everything. Upshot - tries to keep Neale and not so keen on Hogan. That is fair enough and to be honest I wouldn't give any player with a foot injury 8 years either, regardless of the $$ he wanted. As we now know, the problem is so many other deals are dependent on Bell making decisions. Analysis time is over!
  23. The trade process has built into it a mediation phase for when clubs cannot agree on a trade. I think It is essential to have the mediation process so that difficult trades get done and so that the current Freo position causing a log jam for about 6 players is cleared. IIR the last time it was used was the Ryder trade to Port.
  24. $1m pa is pretty standard for a top forward. An with inflation it won't be much in years 6-8. But 8 years!! Can't be too much wrong with his foot!! Edit: Update: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-jesse-hogans-large-contract-demands-contributed-to-fremantle-rejecting-melbournes-trade-offer/news-story/578fbad1c64f774a808b80e3b8707900 JESSE Hogan’s camp asked Fremantle for an $8 million deal over eight years before the Dockers emphatically rejected Melbourne’s trade offer. Fremantle was prepared to consider a three or four-season contract, but considered eight years as a leap of faith too far. "...the Dockers spent significant time weighing up whether Hogan was worth it all. In the end, he wasn’t and the club’s statement was not a bluff". A Hogan trade is not dead in the water, but it appears Melbourne will have to buckle first.
  25. If that is what they are doing they need to shorten the trade period. We will have had about 4 days of nothing. If it is all about the theatre they should make it 5 days not 10!
