Agree, but remember all the knockers here on Demonland last season who wanted him dropped?  Grrrrr

Personally i don't think there were that many who wanted him in particular dropped. I think it was more frustration at what was happening generally over the ground. There were quite a few times the team had games won and something happened, we lost...

That is brilliant Six6six. Love that action photography and as mentioned by Dazzle it really shows the player’s muscular definition and I am even more buoyant about our kids coming through. I also loved the Easy Beats on the sound track they were a favourite of mine back in the early - mid 60’s, they did a stint up in Mildura I think at the Murray Moon dance hall and a bunch of friends and I got to meet them and have a smoke out the front of the hall with them. We were all very young at the time. Great memories.!!

Easy Beats played at Mtcham upstairs too..

His turnovers usually occur in the most critical stages of the game. When the pressures skye rockets, unfortunately his awareness and disposal by foot turns to water.

I don't think fans are generally fussed when there is a turnover kick by a player. It's where and when you do it in games is why fans get annoyed and unfortunately for Nibs he's got a habit of doing it in crucial stages of the game.

Not having a shot DD but if his turnovers occur during critical stages of the game, doesn't that mean that he actually HAS the ball whereas twenty or so others do not. As i recollect at least two maybe three occasions last year at critical stages he was the one who had the ball and kicked two or maybe three of those clutch goals.

Very confidently tipping Taj to be the break-out player of 2024. Underrated on here, but has all the tricks, along with an uber-professional attitude. Will exponentially improve with experience.

(also tipping he’ll be a whipping boy until his value becomes undeniable).

He knows how long the season is going to be for him.

If ever you visit Harrison's home town of Wudinna,  I can highly recommend Wudinna Farm View as a place to stay. Beautifully presented and great value.

The town has terrible inflation, if the pub is any indicator, however.  I had 3 glasses of wine one night, the cost of which rose by $1 each visit to the Bar. A fellow patron brought a 40 pack of smokes - $100. This was over 2years ago.

Now there's a hint if ever i read one..

The Herald Sun reports today -

“The AFL will change its rules so players who lay a high bump on an opponent in the act of smothering will be suspended in response to the controversial Brayden Maynard case last season.

“The league has reviewed Maynard's qualifying final bump on Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw and deemed that players in similar situations from next season must take "reasonable steps" to avoid contact or lessen the impact.”

I suspect that this will not really help much. Collingwood’s case was that Maynard acted reasonably. The Tribunal could easily have ruled against Maynard on the facts - it refused to do so.

Saw an interesting clip that i hadn't seen of Maynard swerving at the las t second in the air to make head head high contact with Brayshaw. Dog of an act by Maynard and all concerned on that side of footy including the bloody coach and the  AFL.

The AFL continue NOT to protect players and their families with a total disregard for their safety and also continue to belittle players with "airy fairy taps" in regard to race abuse which continues to happen in every game.

    Well done AFL.

  8. My first Game. Now this is purely memory of a long time ago. I don't remember who they were playing, but did Geelong play someone in a demonstration game pre season, or was it a home game, and it was during, or had something to do with the Olympic Games. I just remember they were in it. Is that right? Maybe someone else remembers. I was in the outer.

Other early games were where i remember MFC were in.  But i don't know the years, just the players.

Bluey Adams, I think he was a professional Runner, Him because he was a runner as was my father in the SG. He ran against a Spargo there.

Tassie Johnson because he drop kicked at the kick outs to the centre, no problems. They all drop kicked even in the wet.

Thinking back now it was amazing. Richmond Bull Richardson and Paddy Guinane, they never quite mastered the art of kicking. Surely someone else remembers these two. Thats it.

Its humid but so is Brisbane Alice and Darwin and there is warm water surf and golf for recreation

no offense to Lorne but I know where I’d be going!

good work Pitmaster. Perhaps a less confrontational and more conciliatory approach asking how the natural human response of putting out arms was overcome and turning to shoulder impact was considered a more suitable approach from a bio-mechanic perspective, might be more likely to get a response.

I understand this would be a more self protective action but would ignore any duty of care responsibility. Does he believe a greater awareness should be given to players. Could Maynards action have been penalised to set an example of this responsibility.?

The movement seems to be ignoring the impacts of shoulder to head, does he believe it is ok to target the head  or should it be sacred?

I also understand there was an increasing number of wrist and arm injuries as that natural instinct was prevalent in skateboarding and snowboarding. Wrist guards were  introduced to limit these injuries.

Theres no compensation for Gus or the club who were obviously severely affected and lost the past battle, but there may be, to use our coaches well worn phrase, some learnings that we all could see. At the moment it seems there is a continuation of violent football acts where self propelled human battering rams can inflict damage at crucial times.

One would think that every student that expert had in his class last year would have failed the unintentional contact question.

Of course not. Despite the belief held by many posters on this forum that our gameplan has not changed since 2021, it has been adjusted each preseason due to changes in our list and the way the opposition has responded to it. However, once the season gets underway, successful teams adhere to their gameplan, so when players are injured, there are VFL players available to step in and carry out the plan. The issue we faced last season—which I previously discussed—was that we lost so many important players, leaving us shorthanded. The cupboard was bare. It is difficult to suddenly and drastically alter a system that players have become accustomed to and react instinctively to something different, especially during a finals campaign.

I didn't think that we lost that many important players, and if so they were at the end of the season and apart from two, Oliver and Petty, they were really below best ten, or 15.

I dont think rigorous AFL training has been on  their agenda for some years now. All sun, surf and KFC buffets over there.

That's it, you open your wishing out loud, they hang it on the wall for that week and injuries galore and possible loss.

  13. Well, who is Dakota?

Watched the whole game and have a little degree of concern. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it needs to be sorted.

Starcevitch congratulated his opposite number, i think.

Clubs do like to beat Brisbane. Fully understand why. That's both Teams .

North could consider themselves very stiff.

Bloody l-o-n-g session. Close to three hours. As usual Tracc stayed out there for about half an hour after the others had all left, having shots on goal. He does this after sessions, totally his choice. Tracc is dedication personified. Like, next level invested. LOL… I told him he needs to get to work on his muscles. He looked shocked and said, “Who, me???!” I said, “Relax, I’m kidding!” He said, “Phew, for a minute there…” 😁 Like he should pay any mind to what a slightly deranged fan says, amirite?!

I told Marty Hore welcome back and he said he’s so happy to be back because this is where he really wants to be, and that he feels like he never left. 💖

Clarrie started later than the others. We chatted a little before he started. Wednesday wasn’t a one-off. He’s definitely on the right track. Happy to chat, super positive, walks with a spring in his step and his head held high. Hashtag body language tells all.

Also had interesting chats with Chocco and Perty and Goody, all separately, but all instilled a strong sense of positivity and I’d even say excited anticipation. They’re clearly pumped for next season, as are the players. It really shows. The whole vibe this week has been amazing, which bodes well so early in the preseason.

Best thing about today? Two words… [censored] MELKSY! Was NOT expecting to see him moving so well! It was such a sight to behold. Last time I saw him he looked (and was) gutted. Totes different today, all smiles and really buoyed. Perty said his recovery won’t be like “your regular ACL recovery” I said, “he looks ahead of schedule already.” Perty said at this rate he’ll be right “middle of the season.” YAY 🥳

PS Adorable little George Gawn stole the show on the boundary. Heartwarming moment: Tracc walking towards him, George runs to greet him, arms outstretched wanting Tracc to pick him up, which Tracc did, making George so happy he buried his little head into Tracc’s shoulder. I know, right?! 🥹

WCW, in the nicest possible way. This is the first time i have ever read a training report in  a story book fashion and i loved it. please give us some more.
