Assuming Gus' contract is out of the cap we'll have a lot of extra cash to splash on Petty and JVR.  I think we can match anything Adelaide or WC can offer.

And after all, all they do is offer money , Adelaide hasn't won a flag in the last ten years, and they both  don't look likely in the next ten years.

It wasn't the AFL's specialist who said it, though.  Gus took it upon himself to have his own team of neurologists assess him.  It was them that detected the change in Gus' brain, not the AFL specialists.  Those same AFL specialists have cleared Murphy to play, but I honestly don't think he's in a good way.

Can't say the AFL haven't been warned.... going to be the mother of all class actions if they let it get to that.

Days of old where revenge would have been swift, on dog acts on the footy field, have long past for the better of our game. I would hate to watch any of our boys try too physically seek revenge on that f…ker, a waste of energy and it means their not concentrating on what our team does best, play good footy. I’d like to see no acknowledgement of that f…ker at all from our boys, no hand shake and only a cold stare into him, and of course within the rules of play make him feel the anger we Demons have of his dog act on Gus. ANYBODY who’s played footy knows that hit WAS with intent. Geez I hate that team.

And he was still doing it against GWS, once where i thought a bit close to the eyes of TOBY for my liking.

Toby got up and got on with the game.

Actually that’s a good idea. Place the financial responsibility on the offenders club. Medical expenses, payouts, legal fees and every other associated costs.

From a legal standpoint that might be a good place to start, Like a show cause why not, perhaps just at the moment from an exploratory position. Maybe a letter to the AFL at the same time.

The AFL like to use a "please explain" when it suits them..

watching the game live and then finally seeing the replay there were two things that stood out for me.

    1. The fumbling was off the charts. Sydney handed the conditions well. We had NFI. Again our poor handling and decision making probably cost us the game. We could have taken a 3/4 goal lead at qtr time instead we had 1 goal. We over handled the ball and it cost us

    2. Sydney continually switched play to find a loose player before kicking back into the corridor. Our defensive positioning was woeful. When they had the ball we were stagnant  and had 2 or 3 players standing 10m away from their kicker 'guarding grass'. Sydney players would run wider and further allowing the kicker to spot up their players with relative ease. And under no pressure which made them look more sure handling

Similarly when we had the ball we crowded the player with the ball rather than spreading out the ground. Sydney were able to create huge width with their positioning. We simply crammed players together in the middle. You could easily see this when we handballed to a teammate standing 2m away. And then we fumbled by putting ourselves under ridiculous pressure.

Both issues reflect poor coaching and on field leadership.

Definitely agree with this and add that it made us look somewhat unfit and that couldn't be possible could it?

Oliver not withstanding because he must have covered many kilometres.

  6. Has anyone mentioned anything about what the absence of Brayshaw would have made in Thursdays game?

i haven't really made the effort to go back 10 or 15 pages to check, but i think he would have made a bit of difference in positioning of some players on both sides, especially in the talks that he had in the centre with the other senior players quite often.

Ralphy was liked  around here for a brief period last year when he announced Kozzie was about to re-sign.

We all knew that anyway. His Uncle said so. Ralph is a rat catcher. You can see the way Lyon looks at him.

Is there anything more contemptible than a football journalist? They print blatant lies and untruths just to fill column inches, and contribute nothing to the game. Jon Ralph is the most contemptible of all.

Fans’ biggest gripe: The media hates my team.

    😛

I don't just hate the Age, i hate all Media. Get that straight. It isn't because they are spiteful and horrible toward a sport that keeps them earning a living. It's  because they they have serious character faults, and have been overwhelmed by their own self importance.

  10. I would have a big supporting crew out there tomorrow, listening at interviews and objecting to anything not on subject or football. Particularly our President and CEO. Its about time we stopped [censored] footing around and started leaning a bit

Many thanks for the above D9.  Seriously flawed I know but i've now warmed to Brad Scott (Bombers maybe under him).

What a classy response to a lazy piece of compering.

Who decided to give Caro a microphone, that's what I want to know.

Her hatred has mysteriously got something to do with Goodwin in my OP

Scrutiny is not going to stop the AFL from looking stupid, which is precisely how they look now.

And the fines should not be allowed to corral the offence into a category

The Powell-Pepper case provides the perfect chance for the AFL to set the standard for the season. Reckless or deliberate conduct resulting in concussion or a serious head wound should incur a six-week minimum ban.

But the AFL, even with a gigantic class-action claim looming against it, effectively condones thuggery, with culprits  defended successfully by high-priced, nit-picking lawyers while concussion victims usually have to miss two games or more.

The latest clear example: Brayden Maynard escaped unscathed after the reckless charge that has ended the career of Angus Brayshaw.

Advances in medical science have made it clear that repeated concussion injuries are likely to result in deadly long-term  consequences. If the AFL does not clean up its act in this regard, what mother would want her son or daughter playing Aussie rules?

What a great summary of what should be, along with racism, the two priority issues of the year.

    Salem to the guts.

    Youth knocking on the door.

    Oliver returning.

The last week has definitely increased the mood.

All of the above and I'm not discounting a couple of players staying at the Club after they finish playing.

We have pretty well the best FB aand FF and the best Ruckman in the  comp that are ready to pass on a heap of knowledge to their understudies. Their understudies are moving up with experience quickly.

I didn't see anything in any of the matches played so far that resembled our discipline, our finesse or variation.

If that's what it looked like, then that's what it is.

I say top 4and nothing less and i don't want to touch on 2 prime reasons stirring everyone who supports these players and this Club, and me.

I'm in the same boat. I think.

The reason I say that is I feel like I have developed a bit of a set against him. Perhaps because I was surprised they picked him ahead of spargs late last year.

So, I wonder if I sub consciousness underrate him.

For instance I was really surprised he had 17 possessions against the tigers.

Less surprised that he got 17 yesterday, but he seems to have the knack good players do of accumulating disposals unobtrusively.

And crucially, he doesn't waste them. A neat kick who reliably hits targets and makes good decisions.

I think he is competing with spargo, who is also a good kick but probably doesn't get enough of the pill.

The other thing about Laurie that makes me think I maybe underrate him is the coaches, and goody  obviously think highly of him. And of course have all the gps amd orher data we don't have access to.

On the gps data, Laurie looks really fit and had slimmed down.

We saw last night how effective our all team defensive grid is.

The blues looked stuck st times- even when they were desperately trying to get speed on the ball.

That defensive grid (which by the by seemed to be set up to invite the corridor kick) requires many players getting to the right spot and heaps of unrewarded running - particularly from the utility types like Laurie, nibbla, langdon, Sparrow etc.

Such players need a good tank  ability to cover the ground at speed and discipline. All hard attributes to "see".

I'm guessing Laurie has developed them.

In my opinion i think what you need to watch with Laurie is this. He is a quite valuable link player with good inside disposal and the smarts.

  16. Just think about the consequences of that hit. Maynard should have retired already in my book just because he knows what he did. It's like if you are involved in an accident and someone is seriously injured , and it's your fault.

The inclination would be very hard to ignore, but he must be going through that.

When these things happen, lives are changed forever

He retires as a premiership player. An MFC premiership player no less.

His 2nd & 3rd quarters were immense in the GF. And that diving mark, goal and celebration ❤️❤️❤️

I hold no hostility towards Maynard, should have he been suspended? yes, but it’s not his fault how spineless the AFL are.

You are MFC royalty Gus. Go in good health.

Maynard could have been asked one simple question. The fact that he wasn't still doesn't exonerate him nor convict him.

But he will still have to carry it with him..

MFC ( denied) him a transfer to Adelaide.

Is that correct? Petty actually wanted to leave us with 2 years left on his contract. Thats not how i read it.

Why leave. He doesnt even come from Adelaide. Just the money?

Whatever you read in the media before the capital letter in the first sentence is correct.
