http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=148019 scroll most of the way to the bottom where it talks about players with less than 7years experience "the player is a free agent and is eligible to field offers from rival AFL clubs... The player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice" Seems like we can low ball them and if nothing works out then gc get no compo and we can just approach the kid directly. Getting caddy for no loss of draft picks = winning

If boyd were available to us i would say get him instead but he isn't. Next year the bottom 2 will look very similair IMO hopefully we will be somewher around 14 meaning we wont have a snowballs chance of getting boyd. Why wouldn't we take the BEST rated forward AVAILABLE since we are likely to miss out next year? Hopefully the midfielder we take with our first rounder will be equal to an o'rourke or stringer -
he's not setting the world on fire at swans YET...watters wanted him to stay at saints but he wanted out. The way he threw his body around in the international rules leads me to think once it clicks he will be good

I love how many people got riled up about tyson vickery...he any relation to tyrone vickery who also plays for richmond (occasionally) Would we be willing to give up picks 3 and 4 to get MD1 MD2? Hogan up forward, martin in the middle, still have a chance to get kennedy or stringer at 13 and viney of course and make it official we plan on opening the window in2015 onwards -
Brown is definately more filled in than cook or watts...didn't seem as quick or agile as watts certainly. Definately able to use his bulk better than cook, if only because there is more bulk to use

Fitzy Clark Kennedy Watts Hogan Howe Forward line starts to look dangerous for 2014...just gonna be a long summer followed by a long winter followed by another long season followed by what i hope is our first semi serious tilt at the top 8 for a long time -
morton was highly rated as a juniour, taken 4 in the draft...howd he turn out? Caddy told gc last year he wanted out, still got plenty of game time clark was still able to perform, toy hasn't...don't rate the comparison

Looks a good sized unit, out bodied his opponent for a couple of marks. Late in the game when the Tigers were surging got back in defence to help out. Having said that he's not quite there yet. Got himself in disadvantageous positions a couple of times. Has been on the Cats' list a few years now I believe. Personally, I would be leaning towards one of their many mids ... Murdoch, Stringer, Gillies, Hogan, Schroeder, all these kids run hard, spread hard and tackle hard. Good hypothetical discussion considering last we heard from the coach Gysberts wasn't leaving yet lol

how else would we get him if not with picks or players? You do realise he has played 13 games for an avg 1.4 kicks and 2.2 handballs? How is wasting a pick, even a 3rd rnd, a good idea? We would be better off keeping morton! If he is THAT homesick then my original comments regarding his mental fragility stand
-
i readily admit it is overs for him, it just depends on how desperate the pies are to get him and how bad we want to get rid of him. Martin is still contracted so as far as i see it if someone wants him they can pay the asking price or worst case scenario they pass and we get to keep a quality ruck who may well push jamar into an early coaching role.

How old is this kid? He would have plenty of time over the next 18months to lose 7kilos of "fat" and put back on 5kg of muscle...any excess skin folds he has currently would just be fuel for his body to burn while creating new muscle. Hate the idea of giving GWS ANOTHER top 3 pick but it really does seem like this is the exact type of kid we need at the dees to help the climb back up the ladder -
good inside mids- jones plodder inside mids- bate, gysberts, mckenzie, trengove good outside mids- plodder outside mids- bail, grimes, jetta, davey The introduction of viney will help the cause of the inside mids. I have faith that grimes, trengove and mckenzie will all take a massive step up next year but our glaring black hole in the middle is our run and spread. I think it much more important to address the need for sp...pace as a higher priority than another plodder inside mid whose only real currency seems based on his conditioning after 2 extra years in the system. is this not why we got the guru misson on our books? if we give up one of our first rnd picks for caddy i will be bitterly bitterly disapointed. maybe bundle caddy and charlie dixon together for our pick 13 and troy davis but thats only because charlie dixon is a beast and we are also in desperate need of tall forwards

not just their skills, it was their hunger for the contest that impressed me the most... Except for the last 10minutes or so, when the tigers really turned it on and came close to an awesome come back, there were always 3,4 or 5 cats around the player with the ball. they put on a magnificent display of pressure and gang tackling which turned into sprea, run and carry...the geelong vfl team looked like i hope the dees will "one day"

but caddy hasn't PROVEN anything to suggest he will turn out any better than the many talented kids i would take ahead of him. only that he has had 2more years in an afl level gym course. The right price ON HIS FORM is a 2nd round draft pick...hell, luke ball went in the 2nd round to the magpies. surely your not suggesting that caddy's value is higher than that?

This is the stupidest thread during a period when there is a thread with "gysberts to be shot out of a cannon" in its title... I would like the song performed live, but to insinuate it has no place or that its embarrasing disgusts me. What else embarasses you? The flag? 1 minutes silences? People wearing poppy's or rosemary sprigs? You would probably prefer a catchy hit from LMFAO or nickleback to be performed because they're more trendy? Pull your head in and realise that history didn't begin with the invention of the internet and that "embarassing" song and what it represents means a hell of a lot to a hell of a lot of people

Martin to collingwood for wellingham + 2nd round pick (would free up their slary cap and in this situation it would be a sellers market) spencer +2nd round (FAcompo not viney f/s) to collingwood for wellingham (could free up jolly to do the brown role) i would prefer the latter but would accept the former. Melbourne quite simply just do not have enough players which other teams want and if we want to be active traders then i'll repeat what has been repeated 30ish times...you have to give something good to get something good

Good chance to see who we might get from Geelong for Gysberts, as well as FA option Byrnes. So far impressed by Stringer and Hogan. Byrnes has that element of class we could desperately use. Speight looks alright but it's hard to tell with Geelong on fire. Watching this game makes me depressed because I think the Geelong VFL would smash the Dees seniors by 10 goals.

His father that died in 2007? if you are having troubles 4 years later then take bereavement leave until you have come to terms with it, any club would understand...i am judging his onfield performances and if you step onto the field you are 100% i'm guessing you saw plenty of his u/18 games and fell in love...he might make it, i certainly don't wish him any harm, but getting him in the PSD or rookie draft is much more befitting his PERFORMANCE as an AFL PLAYER and he has not shown enough at the AFL level to warrant giving up players or picks. Especially when there are massive question marks regarding conditioning which in turn raises questions about his self discipline please mate, i moved to the gold coast from melbourne as a 16 year old, knowing not a single person. yeah i left behind family and mates but i made new friends that i now call brothers. people who i have shed sweat blood and tears with, people who kept me off the streets and shared nights in the watchhouse with...and i certainly didn't have the kind of support network that an AFL footy club provides. if he was unable to make new friends it speaks volumes about him as a person

I am now a doubter that he will become the promised KPF he was drafted as...he just doesn't look like bulking up Having said that if we can turn him into a beau waters/grant birchall/ bj goddard type rebounding defender he could become a real weapon. Another strong attribute he has is his clean hands below the knees. wouldn't mind seeing how he goes on a wing as a link up, outside mid running type. his combination of size, speed and agility could work well out in space not unlike an isaac smith or lewis jetta

Did anybody let slip any info regarding a small foward we might have recruited?
