I'm speculating that Hunt and Weideman will be Unrestricted FA because I think they are unlikely to be in the top 25% of salary.  As you say, it's hard to tell whether Brayshaw would be in the top 10 money earners or not - I think he's be right on the cusp.  It's probably interesting too whether say Petty would be RFA or UFA on the basis of his long-term contract.

UFA would be my guess old55, just like Frawley in 2014 who was an UFA as he was not in top 25%

With one of our early picks in those 2 drafts we picked Alan Johnson.  But I'm not sure whether any of those players in those 2 drafts were tied to clubs or obligated to those clubs

Danny Hughes was another

In the 81 Draft we took Alan Johnson with pick 1 and Danny Hughes with pick 13. In the 82 Draft we took Keith Thomas with pick 5 and Ray Holden with pick 17.

Matt Febey was a far better player than Minton-Connell & Kelly, as was Andy Lovell

As I understand it Dunstan won't qualify as an FA as the 8 years needs to be continuous at one club.  Happy to hear if that understanding is incorrect.

He will be a Unrestricted Free Agent as he is a player who has previously qualified as a free agent (this season)

Unrestricted free agents are players who are in the bottom 75 per cent of salaries at the clubs in their free agency year, or a player who has served 10 or more years at his club. Players who have previously qualified as a free agent - such as Port Adelaide's Tom Rockliff - or players who have previously been delisted - such as Brisbane's Jarryd Lyons and Melbourne's James Jordan - also qualify in this bracket. Clubs do not have the option of matching offers for unrestricted free agents.

Restricted free agents are players who fall in the top 25 per cent best paid players at their respective clubs and come out of contract after their eighth or ninth season at the club, with their owner clubs able to match rival bids for them under free agency rules. For instance, Jeremy Cameron was a restricted free agent at Greater Western Sydney last year, which allowed the Giants to match a bid for him and force Geelong into a trade.

A few points:

• I've corrected the Allowed A Rookie numbers to be: 1 - 6.
• Jordon has been shown as a senior all year so I left him there for the sake of consistency.  He is contracted until 2023 so a late pick will be used (94 or 112) to make that official.
• Chandler has been assumed to be an A rookie, pending further clarification.  If he is promoted to the senior list a late pick will be used to make it official (94 or 112).
• In summary, we have 38 senior and A rookie players giving us 4 overall list spots.  Based on Jordon/Chandler assumptions herein that is 3-4 senior spots and 0 -1 A rookie spots.  (Plus two 'B rookie spots).

The classification of A Rookie vs Senior is a bit academic regarding list numbers and eligibility to play.  The benefit is that being a rookie helps manage the sal cap as a portion (I think the first $80,000) isn't include so their is an incentive to max the rookies.

As @Turnercorrectly noted if Andy Moniz-Wakefield gets thru the draft we can take him as a 'B' rookie.

Re our draft picks:  Collingwood and Bulldogs currently have 10 draft picks between our 37 and 57 and will use them for their respective F/S, and/or trade/consolidate them.  This means our picks 49 and 57 will come in a long way.  My current estimate is that 49 will be in the low 40's and 57 will be high 40's.  I won't make it too exact as it will change with more pick trades. 

The next update will be after the Draft, unless their are significant changes to our draft position.

Thanks LH, Sam Wedeman and Luke Dunstan will both be FA in 2023.

I’m not at all sold on Baker but the speed is definitely there, not lightening but definitely quick. He must have improved his tank or they would’ve given up. I don’t think his game sense will ever be up to it but clearly they think there’s a chance. I wouldn’t have kept him but I understand why he’s had 1 more 1 last chance 

 

Agree with all that DS, another thing that worries me about Baker is his kicking, it can be horrid at times.

as he was delisted last season he has only spent 1 out of a now 4 possible seasons as a rookie so we may have kept him down there and only upgraded chandler who with a 2yr deal must be upgraded as it takes him into a 5th season with us? -still not sure he's worth a 2yr deal and wouldn'tve been disappointed if he'd taken the crows offer but does that mean we can still keep hore and then take pick 17, 37 consume some for Woewodin and then upgrade chandler at the end? with AMW to come as a rookie (cat B)? have i mathed that right?

If we upgrade Jordan, we have 2 spots on the main list and zero spots on the rookie list (34 & 6), we do have 2 rookie b list spots, but dont need to use a draft pick we can auto upgrade him (Jordan)
