Best strategy has to be take best available, regardless of postional need. In this era of player movement, a graders are 'currency'. we can always trade out surplus a graders for proven players of a certain position the following year. Draft must be treated as a way to accrue currency. Trade period to be used to fill holes in the list.

hes talented but wasted as a 'flanker' in melbournes side. he doesnt really have a position in the side that i can see that is worth the money to keep him. he has currency based purely on his 'potential'. id like to see him put up for trade. at least see if we could get a first or 2nd rd pick for him. id much rather a dunstan or a sheed type than pay watts big money to float around on the wing. hes not physical, goes missing alot, is a poor contested mark and justt doesnt have a strong work ethic. If theres a club out there thinking they can turn him in to something then now is the time to trade and find another decent midfielder. we cant just play him on a flank for his career on big money.

i still want to trade Watts. Try and get an extra pick for him and grab a midfielder. I just dont think hes got enough of the competitive spirit in him. Skilled for sure but where do we play him? Id rather get a hard at it midfielder for him out of the draft, plus aish and billings/sscharenberg/kelly etc and Buddy in free agency. Theres a midfield plus buddy for the marketing and crowd draw.
