  1. All Mahoney wants is to get May and KK to the club. If the Suns agree to pick 11, which they haven't, then he will accept Freo's offer. Otherwise the club is more than happy to keep Jessie. Who cares whether we have received unders and paid overs. Mahoney has achieved his objective like he has in previous years.
  2. Is this something you know as fact or are you guessing like everyone else which means your opinion is no better or worse than the ones that you have chastised on this thread.
  3. Agree. The AFL should introduce a minimum draft pick requirement based on the contract $$ amount and length of contract. So if Freo is offering Jessie $1.2m/yr over 4 years then that equates to a certain number of points that is converted into draft picks / players. Freo has to offer the minimum unless Melb agrees to something lower (in the case that Melb just want to offload Jessie at any price).
  4. We could convert pick 5 into 8 and 13 from Adelaide and trade pick 8 to GC. It places Adelaide ahead of PA at pick 6
  5. In this current circumstances would you do a straight swap with WC's Tom Barrass plus maybe extra picks. We move on and this solves our backline problems.
  6. But they said its their final offer!
  7. This is what happens when the CEO/Board get involved and take over negotiations from the FD. Didn't Paul McNamee do something similar?
  8. Yes that gives them a chance of getting Rankine. I'd push for pick 8 and a 3rd rounder for May and KK
  9. Then what do we give up for May and KK? Love to keep pick 5 or do we need to convert that pick 5 for 2 teen picks.
  10. Huh? Sometimes you are hard to understand Bub.
  11. Good thinking but we could turn pick 6 from Freo into 2 early teens and trade one of them for May and would be better off.
  12. Have no fear. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/how-oscar-mcdonald-has-gone-ahead-of-his-brother-20180912-p503b9.html
  13. Matthew Lloyd made an interesting comment on the Hogan discussion saying that Weideman would make an ideal CHB with Lever back to being the intercepting 2nd tall. I think this setup has merit and would not be surprised seeing it during pre season (obviously without Lever at this stage).
  14. Another thing to think about is the seriousness of Jessie's injury....his foot.
  15. I would only be interested if the Dockers actually approached the club with an offer. I would only be interested if that offer was their first round pick and one of their players eg Langdon or possibly Andrew Brayshaw ( I know he has re-signed, but we might give them back a pick). I would then use that first round pick to try and pick up a quality mid like Gaff or Shiels
  16. Yeah and they know where Jessie is at. He averaged only 3 votes out of 10. Hunt - 2.9 votes, Watts - 2.6. Even Clarrie averaged only 6 votes out of 10.
  17. Lets not get carried away with Petty's highlight reel. Oscar has come a long way in 12 months and the footy department obviously do recognise this.
  18. I would not be replacing Oscar too soon. From what I can see from the highlights they both have similar attributes.
  19. Where is Carlton on the ladder and Essendon are the same with us. So if we were hard nosed there and no trades were done would you be happy? I bet not. And don't say that Adelaide would have buckled and given what we originally put forward. It wasn't going to happen. The market said Lever was valued at 2 1st round picks. Same with JW. His market value was only a 2nd round pick. As for next years 1st round pick we can deal with that later. No doubt we will try trade up into a 1st round pick. But as for now we have traded exactly the way we wanted. Have done so for the past 3 years. Forget the unders and overs.
  20. For god's sake does it matter whether we pay overs or unders in a particular trade. The club targeted Lever and Balic all year and beyond and made a decision on JW. They got these trades done as well as having 3 2nd round draft picks. As they said on Trade Radio the MFC are gaining the reputation of a club that gets trades done swiftly as possible. We usually get the outcome what we want.
  21. I seem to recall that Bontempelli shot up the charts from nowhere a couple of years ago. He hasn't turned out too badly. What names do you have in mind that have failed?
  22. He looks like he has a bit of puppy fat to shed. it will be interesting to look at his body shape after his first pre season. He could be difficult to tackle as he looks to have a nice burst of speed from a standing start.
  23. You really missed the point. Trades can easily be made when two parties trust each other. Obviously Geelong and Adelaide had enough trust in each other to make the trade beneficial to each party. You give credit to Geelong and Adelaide because of the systems they have in place and the right people they have at the helm. Because of this things move very quickly. I now believe the MFC have the respect and trust of the other clubs to negotiate win/win trades. Even Essendon by their standards were reasonable with the Melksham trade. The trade was agreed upon very early. The trade was "pretty easy really".
  24. On what grounds do you say that we paid more for Melksham? Just because we received p29 later you are jumping up and down saying that Ess would have accepted p29. You don't know. They are hard arses to deal with and if we were too we would still be at a standoff with supporters yelling to "do something". Footy clubs enter each trade period with specific goals to try and secure players they have identified during the season/s eg Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg that will improve their list. The club obviously believed that Melksham was worth a 2nd round pick and Kennedy around a late 2nd to 3rd and they got the job done around those picks. No one will remember the noise and drama involving these trades in years to come. All we will remember is what great pickups they were.
