Good luck to San Jose there 'pantaloons' . I follow the Canucks mainly because my Cousin moved there in the early 90's . Gotta love playoff hockey hey . Though I just watched Vancouver lose their opener to L.A 2 - 4 . Not a good start ! You're right about winning the Stanley Cup . It seems there's not a great deal of home ice advantage and I'm not sure the seeds mean much at all . And having 16 teams in the playoffs makes it a tough ask . If a team can hit form at the right time , then even a 7 or 8 seed can win the whole thing . And there's always lots of upsets . For those with Foxtel the next game to be shown is game 2 between Pittsburgh and the Flyers - Sat morning 9.30am . Ideal . Cheers
  2. Sad to hear about Jim , hardtack . I remember seeing Captain Matchbox at the 'Royal Oak' in Richmond in late 1976 (?) . They were great fun . Pots were a dollar each and I think "free" for the Ladies . My date drank me under the table ! Vaguely remember trying to do the 'Twist' on the dance floor . Also saw 'The Sports' a few times back in the day . Probably at the 'Prozzie' in Kew or 'The Bloke' in Bulleen . Might have been the 'Village Green' . Memory is a bit hazy ! Great times and great days . Here's one more from each band ........... Fairly sure Jim features at the end of both these songs . With the same ending . 3. Day 1 , 1st Test in Barbados . West Indies won the toss and are batting . Our team is Warner , Cowan , Watson (vc) , Ponting , Clarke (Capt), M Hussey , Wade , Siddle , Harris , Hilfenhaus and Lyon . 12th man Pattinson . Pitch looks devoid of grass , though it could have a bit of pace in it . Cheers
  4. Latest hit from Chris Standring - excellent music video as well ! "Oliver's Twist" Macca 2.8

  7. And how about that Peggy Lee ... this song helped launch her career. A huge hit back in the early 40's. Peggy came from North Dakota and was married 4 times. Other notable Peggy Lee hits were "Fever", "Heart", "Is that all there is" and her first no.1 hit "Somebody else is taking my place." A super talent was Peggy Lee ... Well , we're getting to the pointy end of the season JJ and it looks like Chicago and Miami have got the top 2 seeds stitched up in the Eastern Conference . And can the Knicks hold on ? Milwaukee have won 7 of their last 10 and are a bit of a chance . In the Western conference Oklahoma City and the Spurs look like they'll be the 1 and 2 seeds going into the playoffs . I'm still holding out hope for the Suns ( who've recovered well ) . It's fairly tight from 4th down to 10th with Utah on a bit of a run . Tomorrows ESPN game is the Magic @ New York whilst Saturdays ESPN game is Portland @ the Clippers . Here are the standings .................... http://espn.go.com/nba/standings Edit : Hey JJ , with Detroit and New Jersey unlikely , have you got a team or 2 you're likely to follow in the playoffs ? And anybody else out there in the wonderful world of 'Demonland' got a team ? If the Suns don't make I'll be hoping Chicago , Dallas or the Clippers do well . Though I still think Miami will win the thing . Cheers
  9. One of my favourite songs . A huge hit back in 2003 . Clever video . Macca 7.1

Yeah , it's an odd move but then again we are talking about Rex Ryan . He thrives on confrontation . To me it looks like if Sanchez has one poor game , he'll be replaced . Same treatment for Tebow . Rex wants to keep his options open but he probably won't be happy with either . Sanchez doesn't like running with the ball and Tebow does so the contrast is there . Sanchez throws better but he's no A grader . Just another strange Rex decision . And the New Yorkers will boo Tebow at their 1st opportunity . Heard Tony Kornheiser use the term "Tim-sanity" today . This has all the hallmarks of turning into a circus . Good for us viewers though . Cheers

I like the way the Americans reward everybody who contributes to a successful season (however small) . By the way , I don't always agree with how they go about things but on that one , definately . Their attitude to drugs in sport ended up being a bit embarrassing . Now , they're getting much tougher on drugs . And rightly so . Got a tip this early out for the Championship ? I'm gonna be boring and tip Miami ! Cheers JJ

Well done to Patty Mills . Right place , right time ? Andrew Gaze got a championship ring with the Spurs back in the late 90's . I vaguely remember seeing him in those open top cars , being showered with adulation etc . Didn't matter that he didn't get that many minutes . It doesn't get brought up much and some don't believe it but one things for sure - they can't take it off him ! Cheers
  15. Nostalgia time "Alan Parsons Project" with "Eye in the Sky" . Not an actual clip and a little bit out of sync but still good . Macca 6.9
  16. Here's a track from "Nils" album "What the Funk" . This song was no.1 on the Jazz "Billboard" top 15 for about 12 weeks . He's been around for yonks . This is one of my favourite albums - esp to get me moving !! Macca 2.4
  17. I never used to be able to watch a regular season game . Based on the 1 game out of 162 - what does it matter ? But ................now that I know more about the rivalry's and divisional match-ups I can . And , of course they're mostly 3 game series . Seems there is always something to play for . Those Red Sox / Yankees games are beauties . And they play each other a lot . 18 times ! Cheers

Yep , Doug Heywood was famous for "The hustling , bustling Timmy Watson" and Doug Bigelow's "Flower supreme" was another beauty . Cheers

Agreed on almost everything there 'Bossdog' . I don't mind Dermie in small doses . He's got some good opinions but goes too far sometimes . Roos is getting better as well . I think Foxtel are taking the Channel 7 feed so we'll still get BT . I like his humour . I put the stereo on when Dwayne is on ! Otherwise I start nodding off . Cheers
  20. If memory serves me correct , Toronto won the World Series 10 years ago or thereabouts ? Fair effort considering that division . MLB is a big pastime but the fans can take it very seriously hey . You've probably caught that ESPN doco involving the Cubs fan Steve Bartman . Scary stuff . Cheers
  21. I follow the Boston Red Sox 'GTG' so I'm hoping we do well this year . Fell away dramatically last year . Too much chicken and beer apparently ! Philly , the Yankees and maybe St Louis should be up there again . Payrolls play a big part but not always . I know a couple of Red Sox fans who try to watch every one of their 162 games . That's keen ! Cheers Edit - I see you are a Blue Jay's fan there 'GTG' . We're rivals ! No , not really , I'm not that keen ! Must be great to be able to see the games live . Same with the Hockey yeah ? I've got a cousin living in Vancouver so I follow the Canucks . Again , not with any great passion .

I like watching the games JJ but don't really have a team . Saw Steve Nash live at the Sydney Olympics when he represented Canada vs the Boomers . He was awesome . So ...............I have a bit of a look at how the Phoenix Suns are travelling from time to time . It's a bit like the EPL for me , just like watching the big match-ups . Probably stay that way as well . Don't dislike any of the teams and don't have any favourites . The sport itself can be great at times . Especially around the play-off's . Espn have got the Miami/Chicago game on this Thursday around noon . Espn's Saturday lunchtime game is San Antonio/Oklahoma City ! Couple of beauty's there . Cheers
  23. Thought it was time to revisit "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" . When 'The Pacific' came out a couple of years ago I decided to watch an episode of each series alternatively . That way you get to experience both the main areas of conflict of WW2 . Worked well too . Two really great series' and well worth a look or indeed a 2nd look . Even better in high definition if you can manage it . Cheers
  24. Nice to have you on board 'hardtack' . I like your music and you've certainly added another dimension to this thread . Keep posting and cheers .
