  1. I reckon he might have been an excellent attacking player to use as a specialist substitute. He could have easily broken the lines and kicked goals when the opposition were stuffed but I am sure there will be many that will disagree with me and I am just simply stating an opinion. He is also a top bloke, not that being a good bloke is particularly relevant to football but I am sure that he is popular at he club.

  2. If we signed Patrick Dangerfield or a similar talent during the trade period then Mitch would beg to come back and play for us. Our lack of stars is what is hurting us as I think that Mitch Clark does not want to be carrying the team from a scoring point of view. I think what he does not realise is that bar going to Sydney, he is going to be seen as a match winner at most other clubs if he gets back to full fitness, and with that comes pressure.

  3. The danger for Mitch if he signs with a team like Collingwood is that we may pass them in the next couple of years. Roos will be coaching some great young players like Lovett, Viney, Salem, Stretch, Toumpas and Brayshaw and/or Petracca. Our midfield is building and Vince, Jones, Cross and maybe a couple more yet to be traded in players should be able to develop a potent midfield. Maybe players like Clarke are not intelligent enough to see the promise, remember he is very much part of Generation Now, who can be a little bit petulant when things get hard.

  4. Certainly Terlich finished 2013 3rd in the Best & Fairest. Then Roos joins, a coach who had originally delisted him from Sydney. I can see how that might have unsettled him this year. Add to that the very public game day spray that he received from Roos and you can see why this has been a poor year for Terlich.

  5. Could not agree more. I still believe the players get away with putting in insipid performances because the entire Melbourne faithful have only just started singing from the same page. Do not want to see the players clapped off again after any more bad performances. I am not sure that It would happen at any other AFL club in Victoria.

  6. As a smokey I thought i would suggest Sam Peet from the Northern Knights. He plays at Assumption College, Kilmore and helped them win the AGSV title this year. He has plenty of mongrel and is a tall and solid unit. Essendon and a couple of other VIC clubs have spoken to him. Mick Egan suggests he has the ability to make it at AFL level. He is a ruckman and is very mobile.

  7. The trouble with relying on trying to get Petracca from GWS is that we may get more value out of Brayshaw or another midfielder. We have no idea how these players might fit into our line-up. We will probably have Picks 3 & 4 which will net us an elite forward and a tall from the draft or possibly an established player and a draft gun. We pay Taylor, Roos, O'Donnell and Viney to get these decisions right and we have to trust them.

  8. When Grimes first played for us he was very quick running off Half Back and he definitely got to the ball in flight quicker to cut it off.Several injuries seem to have really curtailed his ability, much the same as it has done to Jack Trengove. Many players in the AFL do not make it for moe than a few years due to injury. Jack Grimes has done well to play as long as he has considering his past injuries.

  9. I sent him an email to the effect that his game plan would only work if the players were committed to it and we should only draft players who wanted to play for us and delist those who did not. He wrote back and said that he wanted players that bled Red and Blue and followed the game plan so this piece is consistent with that line.

  10. JKH reminds me very much of Aaron Davey from 2004-2006. There was just a hint in one interview that Davey is the player who he models his game on as he was one of his heroes as a kid. If you watch his run down tackles from behind and his pace onto the ball there are a lot of similarities.

  11. Watch George Stone's match preview this week and you will see how the psychology of winning can develop in our team. He is positive, calm, smiles all the time and even mentions the word 'win'. How different from the Neeld era where we had stuttering Brian Royal looking like a rabbit in headlights.
