  1. Has been rated highly, but missed last year with injury I believe. Smooth as silk outside midfielder. Think Dal Santo. Played very well in the champs, and might have moved from a top 15 rated player into the top 10 (probably higher).

His Calder coach Ian Kyte was quoted on him: "He's just a very skilful, class act. He looks to have a lot of time when he gets the ball and he uses it really well. I'd like to think we can afford to play him as an outside midfielder trying to teach him to play inside."

Agree 100%. He looked like he has a touch of class.

  2. Whatever one's views on his future, ie whether he should stay or be offered for trade, I think most would agree that Col IS THE most frustrating player on our list.

Offers so much and usually delivers so little....just enough, often enough, to tease us and con the list managers.

A huge disappointment to most I would think.

Disappointment file: Cale Morton, Brock Mclean, Tom Scully, Addam Maric, James Strauss (still a chance), Jake Spencer (after 4 years !! ...), John Meesen, Jamie Bennell, and etc etc

  3. Don't see why JT would be dropped. I think he played okay on Saturday.

Jack Trengove cost us 4 goals directly from "his" turnovers. Watch the game. His kick from the centre to the wing to a double teamed Joel Macdonald was a real stinker, of under 10's standard. Instead of a kick to the 15metre hotspot in front of goals, he went Negative.

I continue to support JT, and believe he will come good. But ... he is just hanging on his spot.

  4. Col should be judged once he gets a proper preseason into him. If he has a season where he has had an uninterrupted run injury wise and still plays like he is just waiting for his next paycheck, then we should look at a trade. I'm not entirely sold on Col. He needs a good season of football behind him, not just a run of five or so games. That being said, his form has been pretty encouraging the last few weeks.

Some more rationale thought, without the "throw him off the bus" attitude. IQ's over 50 are much sought after.

  5. In: 1. 2nd efforts (Kangas showed up our lack of the contest), 2. a fwd that stays within 50 metre arc as a target (like the simpson desert at times, players were in the centre and had to stop as there was no one ahead), 3. centres clearances (we were smashed)

Out: 1. sideways/backwards kicks 2. Jetta, as slow as the fox glacier 3. going wide, then wider (use the corridor, we did it 5-6 and got goals from most)

  6. Nathan Jones - take a bow. Heart as big as Pharlap. The one shining light for MFC in 2012.

Plenty of "sceptics" had Jonesy out the door ... "can't kick was the standard around the traps". He kicks it 50+, and gets the footy. Only a few others in MFC can say that. He missed one game in 3 years. B&F for sure in 2012. Well done

  7. Enough is enough for me on Col. All icing and no cake. He will never rise above where he is at now. I thought Neeld would be the one to snap him out of his lethargy but clearly not. He'll look good in a good side but just stands out as a down hill skier at the MFC, and we can't afford passengers.

Hmmm. A player that can kick a goal from 50 metres, take a contested mark, kick goals from tight angles, tackle hard, did not get pushed off the footy and not let the opposition move the ball on. All your comments did not focus on this. I was at the game. Watched it from Bay 44. He had plenty of mates who at times looked a second off the pace. Bail was slack, and did not even chase, no 2nd effort, ran hard when he was behind. Frawley also looked disinterested. Kicks the ball sideways and backwards. Trengove 3 critical turnovers that lead to kangas goals. Jetta was as slow as fox glacier. Strauss is all chassis but no engine.

Plenty of "glass half full", negative posters here. You must all be very proud. Colin is a key to our future. Fwd, mid who can get the footy in tough contests, take a contested mark and kick 50. Who else in our team can do that ... names please.

Plenty of others on the train out of MFC before Colin Sylvia.

  8. Really? I didn't notice .

I posted this too quickly-will watch the replay and reconsider all this .After I puke.

If you watched the game, you would have noticed Moloney as one of our best (Jones & Moloney were our best two) !! please don't post unless you watch the game

  9. Not getting a game behind Mumford, Goodes, Pyke, Roberts Thomson ...

so maybe a good get for Melbourne as a free agent in PSD.

Latest write up on Swans website:

With Seaby injured, Jesse White stood up as the Swans Reserves number one ruck option. Not only did White control the ruck across the ground, but he had a major impact when he drifted forward, finishing with six goals - the bulk of which came from open play. Kicked 6 goals for swannies reserves. Big tough and agile.

    Thoughts?

  10. I had a dream...

    a) Trade period

    - Koby Stevens (WCE) traded to MFC in exchange for Cale Morton

-> tough inside mid. Physically built and ready to play MFC 1sts

    - Brett Meredith (Sydney) traded to MFC in exchange for Ricky Petterd and pick 45

-> highly skilled. cannot get a game at Sydney due to depth of midfield. Returning from injury but another Vic boy due to come home.

Delisted by MFC: Spencer, Bennell, Bate, J Mcdonald, Green (sorry it hurts but it has to be done)

    B) AFL national draft

(Whitfield and Grundy go at pick 1 and pick 2)

Pick 3 Jimmy Toumpas - pacy midfielder

Pick 4 Sam Mayes - highly skilled midfielder

Pick 13 Dayle Gartlett - "Rioli" like small fwd / mid

Pick 25 Jack Viney - the engine, hard inside mid

Pick 66 Daniel Nicholson (rookie elevation)

    c) Rookies

Magner (2nd yr) Couch (2nd yr) Evans (3rd yr interstate rookie) L Williams (2nd yr) Sheahan (2nd yr)

    Kelvin Lawrence - delisted rookie

Rookie draft - #3 Luke Blackwell (Claremont) or Kyle Martin (Frankston) #21 Luke Tynan (Scorpions) or a young ruckman like Sikora from Sandringham

  11. Petterd is a good mark, but at his height 182cms, we need more aerobic capacity. 2nd efforts? run & chase ?? hunger for the footy?? not evident.

Delist or trade if right options

Suggestion 1 - Petterd & pick #45 from MFC to Sydney for Brett Meredith OR

Suggestion 2 - Petterd & pick #45 from MFC to Suns for Josh Toy

  12. Blackwell is one of the elite midfielders in the WAFL competition.

    Height 180cms

Weight 78 kgs (would be 80-81 with an AFL pre season adding that extra muscle)

    -skilled left footer

-gets his own footy and distributes

    -has won the 2009,2010, 2011 Clremont B&F

-won 2011 Sandover & runner up in 2010 behind Andrew Krakouer

We should be falling over ourselves to add this bloke (as a mature rookie #3) to the young guns from the draft.

  13. best player AGAIN in best side outside the AFL ... a must !!!!!!!!!!!

    Claremont 6.1 14.5 19.8 26.10 (166)

  14. scenario 1, Suns choose Grundy & Viney as f/son pick round 2 (#24)

    #1- GWS: Whitfield (lock), #2-Suns: Grundy, #3: Toumpas, #4 Mayes/Stringer

scenario 2, Suns choose Toumpas & Viney as f/son pick round 2 (#24)

    #1- GWS: Whitfield (lock), #2-Suns: Toumpas, #3: Grundy, #4 Mayes/Stringer

scenario 3, Suns choose Grundy & Viney as f/son pick round 1 (#3)

#1- GWS: Whitfield (lock), #2-Suns: Grundy, #3: Viney, #4 Toumpas

scenario 4, Suns choose Toumpas & Viney as f/son pick round 1 (#3)

#1- GWS: Whitfield (lock), #2-Suns: Toumpas, #3: Viney, #4 Grundy

Likely #13 : Dayle Gartlett "Riloi like" / Ben Kennedy "Marc Murphy accumulator" / Nick Vlastin "Lenny Hayes like"

Likely #24 (excl Viney): Jason Pongrecic

  15. DEMON Jeremy Howe will face the Tribunal on Tuesday night for wiping blood from his knee on the shorts of Port Adelaide's Tom Jonas on Saturday.

The incident, assessed as misconduct, was referred to the Tribunal by the Match Review Panel because the League's table of offences does not cover such an offence.

The only similar case was against Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley who wiped blood on Cameron Ling in 2002. Buckley was suspended for one game.

He will have an MRI scan to see if he has a brain !! stupid

  16. Obvious target ...

swap Cale Morton for Koby Stevens

West Coast’s considerable depth could cost them Koby Stevens at the end of the season, with the promising midfielder on the radar of several Eastern States clubs.

The 21-year-old Stevens, who has been starved of opportunities, will play just his fourth game of the year in tomorrow’s clash with Sydney.

The Victorian’s inclusion will give the strong-bodied inside midfielder a rare chance to display his wares.

The 2009 No.23 draft pick has been given only one full game all year, despite West Coast’s sizeable injury list and his impressive WAFL form.

That performance, a 19-disposal effort against Greater Western Sydney, was not rewarded, with Stevens dropped for the next match.

He is out of contract at the end of this season and it is understood he has attracted interest from as many as six Eastern States-based clubs.
