I’m curious how every single thing Clarry was up to last off season was widely known immediately by everyone, and yet these apparent new off field incidents have only come to light today as we try to justify putting Clarry on the trade table. I am not suggesting this isn’t true, it absolutely might be. Timing however is interesting.

You’re right, it’s possible that another club offered him more money and this is his motivation. Doesn’t change the fact that we aren’t exactly an attractive destination to outsiders. Undergoing a review, wanting to offload one of our best players, still need at least two new line coaches, Trac’s saga. It’s not a good look when you’re trying to attract talent. People want a stable work place.

100%. Pert might be super happy to run the show, but he's not running it unless Green and the rest of the board are giving him the green light to do so. He might also be making decisions without the board's approval, but on the whole I would say the board would have given him support to get involved.

If you are not extremely concerned that this club is seemingly being run by a bunch of blind monkeys flinging poo at the wall to see what sticks, then you should be. Leaving the Clarry trade aside, you've had Green take over as caretaker president, and since then he's had his pants pulled down by Gutnick, he's got Pert running a review when he should be reviewed instead, all the while this sinking ship is leaking worse than the Titanic. I am going to give Pert the benefit of the doubt here, and say that he isn't sitting in Noosa and ringing clubs around without the backing of the board. So if the board is letting Pert run the show, because they have lost faith in the FD, be it Goody, Lamb or Richo, then forget trading Clarry and get on with replacing the people in the FD and let their replacements make the list management calls! One thing is certain, a bunch of doctors, lawyers and ex footballers sitting on a board, have 0 credentials to make list management calls. And having the CEO act as a proxy for them, is even worse!

Because the one thing the club can’t do, is be as good for his brand as the likes of Collingwood or Carlton. The likelihood of Trac not exploring his options again in 2025 are low. It would take some serious success IMO.

Using Oliver as a scapegoat for our cultural issues, while the people who actually run the show like Pert, remain unblamed. No wonder Oliver met with Geelong. He must be sick and tired of being blamed for everything that’s gone wrong at our club, despite his continued and best efforts to get better, and despite his unwavering love of the club! If Geelong, who some claim have the best culture, are interested in Clarry, Smith and took Stengle, it goes to show you that the problem lies not with the individual, but with the club behind the individual.

Viney wouldn’t have signed on for a rebuild. He would have gone to North for a lot more money if he wanted a rebuild. Tmac and Melksham aren’t playing on to lead by example. If the club wants to rebuild before Tasmania comes in, no problems, but then Trac should be traded too as his currency is bigger than Clarry’s right now. And we shouldn’t bother chasing someone like Houston who is older than Clarry.

Nothing would destroy my soul more than watching Clarry help Geelong win a flag. I just love the idea of giving them our best player so they can keep contending for a flag until I die.

Exactly right. Clubs aren’t stupid. If we are floating an A grader with 5 years remaining on his deal, then we are willing to take unders. It’s not as if Clarry has asked for a trade, and we stand firm and say no way unless we get 2 top 10 picks etc. If it’s us driving the trade, we will lose in the deal. Which is why we are an amateur club.

The club can say nothing, as other clubs have when their players are being floated for trade. Why does no other club have their player movements plastered all over the media? We are a [censored] mess

So 24 hours ago the club via Richo releases a statement claiming Oliver is a required player and we look forward to seeing him in red and blue next year and beyond. 24 hours later we have 4 different leaks, suggesting the club is pushing Clarry to look at this options after Pert rang around clubs to see if they’d be interested. Make it make sense, because as far as I can tell, those are two different positions being taken by two different parts of the club.

A review that’s being undertaken by Pert. Give me a break. If they don’t trust these guys to make decisions, then sack them and bring experienced people in their place. I have zero confidence in the ability of a CEO to make list management decisions. It’s why he’s not, wait for it, a list manager! 🙄

Knowing about it and agreeing with it are not the same thing. One wonders why the CEO is shopping a player around when we have a whole footy department who is responsible for trades. Perhaps it’s because Pert is going against the wishes of the FD, which if that’s the case, you may as well offload Goody, Richo and Lamb too, as their positions are untenable.

No it wouldn't. The CEO should not be calling clubs trying to trade a player. On what goddamn planet is that an appropriate use of his time or his skills? Clarry has the support of (almost all) his teammates and Goody. To be used as a pawn in Pert's optics to make us look like we have a great culture, is a disgrace. No wonder players are not picking up the phone to Tim Lamb... maybe they should ring Perty instead. Just have a long hard think how this mskes our club look when the CEO is going above the list manager, football manager and coach's heads to try and offload a player for optics.

It's also what ultimately got Pert sacked at the Pies. History repeating, with a president at the helm that allowed Gutnick to pull the wool over his eyes. Lord help us.

It's hard to remember a time in recent years where I've been angrier with this football club. I back and support this club always, but letting Pert throw Clarry under the bus, when he's worked his behind off and is well loved by his teammates, is just utterly putrid. Where the [censored] is our list manager, coach and football manager? Because I don't remember the last time a CEO has made list management decisions.
