That was my thoughts too. He couldn’t have liked what he saw on the back page of the paper either. Telling fans not to boo his opponent. And hitting Trac behind play just shows he’s frustrated. Plus Darcy looks a little overweight to me. He would thrive under a mentor like Gawn. I would seriously push for it. Freo can’t expect to get Jackson for nothing.

This. On TV he looked appallingly lazy. I don’t care if he can’t take a contested mark. I’ve given up on that being him. But it’s a non negotiable to compete. Weid did not compete. Laid 2 tackles but otherwise just stood and watched as his teammates tried fighting for the footy. This is the stuff that really disappoints me, because effort and intent can’t be taught. If he isn’t doing that stuff when he’s trying to cement a spot in the side, he never will.

Watching Sean Darcy last night, I just can’t see how he can be happy with Jackson coming in unless Jackson plays predominantly up forward to replace Lobb. At 24, he’s a damn good ruckman with years left in the game. I would try to coax him out. He could share the load with and learn from Max for a year or two and then become the main ruckman while Max spends more and more time forward (and learns to kick goals).

I should have clarified that I didn’t think he wasn’t good. I just think that in general his attacking jobs aren’t good enough to justify a spot in the side unless he’s also doing a defensive role on the opposition’s attacking defender. Which is why I want him to take Moore and then Saad and then Rich (or whoever plays instead if Rich is still injured in the last round).

I can’t see another role for Melksham except to take out the opposition’s intercepter. So I wholeheartedly agree with this. Yes he can be fun when he attacks the footy, but he doesn’t do it enough. To justify his spot in the side he has to fill a role like this.

If Brown isn’t fit I would debut JVR. He can’t possibly give us less than Weideman. I have always supported Weideman and wanted to see him succeed, but the lack of effort tonight was unacceptable. Fine if you can’t take a mark, not fine if you stand and watch teammates trying to win the ball. Really disappointing. Needs to go.
