  1. That is unequivocally good news.

A true Demon who stood by us in tough times.

Had his jaw broken behind play by the thug Mathews.

A loyal servant of the club as they say and to this day I see him at every MCG game.

This can only be good for us.

Peter Giles and Neville Bruns say hi.

  2. Grimes isn't going to get any better. His poor tackling, decision making and disposal won't get appreciably better. He's 25 and has played lots of games. So many of his mistakes result in opposition goals which are momentum killers.

Perhaps someone could put new words to the song "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" (from The Sound of Music)? Substitute "Grimesy" for "Maria" would be a start.

The side was great today. Well, for most of the match. The killers were the poor start, and lack of composure at crucial times.

  3. I have a friend who has this insidious disease. It has severely aged and incapacitated him. He has to go for infusions every few weeks.

I'm really sorry for Clarkson. No point in saying get better/well because I'm sure he doesn't go onto this site. But he won't be coaching this year.

  4. I was at the Western Oval that day. There was a "myth" that Demons supporters hugged complete strangers when the siren went. No myth!! Guilty as charged!!!

I was at the G for the first 2 finals; thumped North by 115 points and Swans by 75 points. I remember in the gents (at 3/4 time) someone starting singing Its a Grand old Flag. Then everyone joined in. A memorable moment.

As for the famous Stynes final. I was there too. I think there was a fair chance that even without the 15 metre penalty, Buccanara may have kicked it anyway. He was an absolute gun. Had the Demons won, would have got thrashed by Carlton in the GF. The Preliminary Final was a bruising match; players would have been stuffed. Hawthorn were.

It was a great ride that year. Johnny Northey was a coach who got the absolute most of some very average players. Jamie Duursma, Dean Chiron, Doug Koop etc. Although he had a few champions too, Robbie Flower, a young Garry Lyon, Viney etc. I loved those Johnny Northey sides. They absolutely gave their all. And they had a great record in close matches.
