  2. Tell her a it's good chance to 'stitch up' the Dees OD boom tish !
  3. f@#$ing typical !! wonder how it will impact his team-mates - so much has revolved around Mitch this year this will be a serious test of the team's psyche and resilience
  4. maybe there'll be turbulence and he'll get covered in spew again
  5. you could well be referring to NicNat given some of the threads on here in recent days Redleg !
  6. Reckon you've been pretty much right on the money with your reviews so far Jimmi but rating Seller a 4 - on par with Watts - is a bit generous methinks. Agree he has been better in recent outings though
  7. I reckon Todd's kicking improved a lot as his career went on
  8. cheers, forgot that one - what a ripper, not just the wrong-way banana but the baulk in fact, that whole clip makes us look like champions - the take-away from the stoppage at the start is like a dream sequence! back on topic, bartram has definitely played the best footy of his career this year.. let's hope this isn't the end for him
  9. that's not very simple either
  10. and hopefully supporters do WJ, or it's going to be a cold and lonely afternoon at the 'g on sunday
  11. that passage of play is in my all-time favourite MFC moments !!
  12. did he say why ? whatever the case may be, you can't fault his honesty since hanging up the boots.. he pulled no punches in his book, and I got to admit, I was quite shocked how forthright he was in admitting that there were some matches where he could hardly concentrate and the only thing on his mind was the punt pretty much agree with MaldonBoy too - Schwarz is one of the best i have ever seen (I still wear no.5 on my back) and I think he was on his way to Carey-esque heights when he did his knee. anyone who doubts this need only watch his last three pre-knee matches (leaving aside the WC loss over there which finished our '94 season). he booted 9.0 against Sydney at the SCG in round 22, turned the first final around against the Blues a week later, and then helped Garry demolish the Dogs the following week with an exhilerating game in the semi
  13. Going to be a cold wet slog on Sunday - forecast showers and 11 degrees
  14. should have been pinged for holding the ball ..
  15. ^^ Im pretty sure its sold out DT1 - see the post from LongSuffering
  16. sorry WYL - why would 10,000 + non-MFC footy supporters bother with this game ?
  17. I like the banter here but I reckon it does the board a disservice because Redleg's observations - often thought-provoking - end up here rather than in the relevant thread. My 0.2 cents
  18. A few random standouts for me: * Darren Bennett kicking a bag at Windy Hill one day as we came back from 34 points down midway through the final quarter to roll them by 8 points * Garry's game-winning goal against WCE in the 88 Elimination Final * Garry's massive torp two weeks later against the Blues in the Prelim. Well inside the centre square at Waverley, a ground considerably longer than the 'G * Schwarz's hat-trick of magic in late '94, starting with 9.0 against the Swans at the SCG, followed up by the blind turn out of the ruck against the Blues in the first final, and then his swashbuckling game against the Dogs a week later, an effort bested only by Garry's 10-goal haul the same day. * Jakovich's bag of 8 against the Dons in the Elimination Final out at Waverley * For some reason I still remember Brent Heaver's (!) five-goal haul on debut against the Blues (pretty sure it was a public holiday...)
  19. without getting into a debate on media standards (and yes I do think they are on the slippery slope) i wasn't really comparing talkback radio to print journalism. they are different beasts. i do think it's valid, however, to use talkback radio as a measure of public opinion, and the same would go for this forum.. it's not unreasonable to say - and not uncommon to see - sentences such as "talkback callers flooded the airwaves to call for coach x' sacking or rule y to be changed".. that doesn't make it an accurate reflection of community sentiment, just a selection of the views that are out there
  20. whether he's a genuine what? poster? what's the alternative? that he's an automated bot that produces opinions on cale morton ? no it's not. in the context, the poster's identity is irrelevant to the story. the only qualification is that the poster be a melbourne supporter with an opinion. it makes no difference whether robbie57 is a 14-y.o girl or a 73 y.o grandfather if - for example - the forum was comprised only of former melbourne players, then you'd have an argument for unmasking the poster's identity. if the journo wrote "a former player has demanded mark neeld be sacked" the public would rightly be curious whether it was a recent player, or a premiership champion, or someone who's always been embittered etc etc. but in thist context it doesn't matter diddly squat whether robbie 57 is arthur or martha, they're a melbourne supporter with an opinion really don't know why you're making such a song and dance about attribution and identity. if talkback is flooded with callers baying for neeld's blood does it really matter whether its kevin from sunshine who's on the phone or ivan from ivanhoe?
  21. http://thedailymaggot.com/?p=2177 looks like the daily maggot agrees with your "laughable" description Redleg
  22. i think it was a nod to the queen's diamond jubilee more than anything.. god knows why but i doubt we'll see it again
