  1. Loved the sacrificial tap forward running back with the flight of the ball in the final quarter which resulted in a goal, very courageous when he knew it was going to hurt.

  2. Boy we really missed Clark today, there were periods where we really controlled play but just didn't have a target up forward.

Throw in Watts, Frawley et al and the imminent influx of players from trading, the draft and FA and I maintain we're not too far away.

  3. Interesting statements by Green today.

Am I the only person wondering who isn't buying into the new system atm?

good call mr twister.. mentioned it (at least) three times ..."but you have to have everyone buy in..."

"the club has to stand up and buy into where neeldy wants to take it" - haven't they done so already?!

anyway, maybe this can be taken to another thread, so as not to spoil what are richly-deserved plaudits for a great clubman

  4. Green can certainly hold his head high today - worked really hard and glad that he got to slot a few goals in his 250.

Aside from Jones, there was little else to smile about.

Felt pretty lonely there, MFC supporters were few and far between

  5. Then again, perhaps not because the events that unfolded on the hallowed turf of the MCG were so horrendous that many of us have erased every aspect of the day from the memory banks.

my only other lasting memory of the day is that the rain caused my red and blue face paint to run which thankfully made it very difficult to see that was happening out on the field

  6. I remember when the 100m sprint final - won by a doped-up Ben Johnson - took place just before the '88 GF.

They broadcast it on the scoreboard but it was slightly delayed and a Melbourne supporter near me - actually a very senior Demonland official - who was listening live on radio took advantage of it by predicting to everyone within earshot the winner and the time to 1/100th of a second.

  7. I have the misfortune to work with the largest number of Kangas fans ever congregated in the one firm.

a "large" number of north fans in one place ? you must work at the club :))

  8. I'm in Melbourne for work next week. Was planning on flying in mid arvo and meeting some mates at Carlton v Richmond.

About a month I decided to brave a 6:05am Saturday flight out of Perth so I'd be in Melbourne in time to get to Etihad.

So I'm getting up at 4:15am, when it will be about 1 degree, to cab it to the airport for a 4 hour flight. all to see a game against a team we can't beat at the best of times at a stadium we can never win at.

    Clearly, I'm a [censored].

    Full marks for dedication

... and you do get to see Greeny play his 250th, so it's not a completely wasted trip

  9. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, would be great if we could put him on ice for a week and have him notch up the 250 at the 'G in front of the faithful.

Unfortunately, I think the state of the team with injuries etc means we actually need him to play this week.. many MFC supporters won't be there to pay their respects.

    Well done BG >>>

  10. We should have a poll on the losing margin Grapeviney.

My prediction is 14 goals, with Petrie kicking his first bag of ten.

I think you're right Old Dee, would not be surprised if the margin is 100 +

Their midfield looked superb at times against Richmond, moved the ball beautifully and quickly

  11. *****Whinge Alert******

Don't know where else to post this and don't think it needs a thread of its own.

I just tried to vote for Howie for "Mark of the Week" and lets face it I think he'll get the top three Marks of the year. But the AFL want me to give my email address and phone no. to some obscure Insurance company just to vote.

    Get St&%$@#ed I say !!!!!

They can go jump as high as one of Howie's marks.

But really its getting beyond a joke, is there anything the AFL haven't sold their soul too ???

    Fair call DS

For what it's worth, I did hand over my details so I could vote for the Sydney mark and I'm yet to receive any propaganda from the insurance company

  12. Court reporter on 3AW just said that the charge sheet doesn't even mention machete. It lists the weapons as the nulla nulla and an axe.. not sure how precise they need to be with the language though.

My fingers and toes have never been so crossed.. if the charges are dropped, and if LJ can get himself fit and firing for 2013, the world will be a brighter place and the MFC's stocks will increase dramatically.

  13. Thanks for that Hampton - had a great laugh.

On a slightly related note, listening to commentators mangle the english language is one of the great joys I derive from the season (particularly when we're sitting at 2-15 or whatever we are).

On Friday night, when a controversial free kick was paid against Essendon, Brian Taylor said that: "The Bomber fans are absolutely erratic about that one!"

Earlier in the year, Brian Lake was asked whether we had doubted last year that he could come back to senior football. He replied: "You always have doubts - there's no doubt about that".

And then of course there was Brad Green's effort last week, when he was asked a question about the AFL's women's round and what role women had to play in football. He said: "I'm sure one day we'll see a club employing assistant coaches or coaches with a woman's background."
