...The fact is no two people will have exactly the same recollection of any meeting and everyone will have their own interpretation of what the words actually meant. ...
Most people can barely remember the discourse of meetings held 2 weeks ago let alone 3 years ago

On the basis of the evidence I have seen to date, I would like Caroline Wilson stood down by The Age.
There's more than a whiff of British tabloid style 'evidence gathering' and reporting to the way in which she has approached/written about this issue in recent weeks.
It's been absolutely devoid of sophistication and balance, and the fact that, plainly, she cannot write makes it even more infuriating to deal with.
Where are the standards Fairfax?! Your football editor seems to have lost his/her red pen.
Wilson's next step will be to pay a boot studder to make statements regarding tanking, illegal drugs and Tory Politicians performing Lurid sex acts with Cameron Schwab. She is a class act worthy of the "News of the World"

could I please request the mods move all tanking related threads to a separate sub-forum?

The reporting seems to be changing the story every each snippett that gets released. The same journalsist has now stated that the "secret" meeting is now revealed began as a a match committee meeting, hardly a secret. Code named the "Vault" which is the name of the shed that all meetings were held in. The meeting was attended by up to 10..now at least 15 people.
Tomorrow she will announced that Jordon McMahon was at the meeting and handed the script on his role in the next weeks match.

If it is Moloney as the second player to come out, then he will be remembered as a rat instead of a B&F winner.
If Moloney is the key witness I wouldnt be too worried

In the scenario that the AFL chose to penalise us this year (by excluding us from the first few rounds of the draft) I can't see any way it could impact upon Viney,
Ultimately it just would mean that MFC would have to use their first available pick for Viney. That would be late in the draft, but we can still use it. The only reason that pick 27 or 28 is pencilled in is because thats our next pick after Port nominated that they would take him (I think it was Port).
Losing 4 would hurt, and as others have said, Carlton got penalised only a few days before the draft when they got hit with penalties, so don't think it's too late for anything to happen this year. The only difference is that the MFC could chose to take it further (i.e court) and maybe stay any penalty until after that had run it's course, which would likely buy time, but not change all that much.
If the AFL introduce sanctions on the MFC that will have significiant ramifcations for the club and competition within the next 3 weeks before the ND then they will have acted impetuously and without regard for due process. 3 weeks out nothing of substance has been raised by the AFL just a lot of media rumours and innudendo. The AFL would be shooting itself in the foot by making any rash decisions on this matter in that time frame.

Just looked up what happened to Carlton in 2002, wasn't flash!
- $1M fine
- Loss of draft picks No. 1, 2, 31 and 34 from the 2002 National Draft
- Loss of all draft picks in the 2003 Preseason Draft
- Loss of first and second round draft picks in the 2003 National Draft
Carlton were penalised for breaching strict AFL rules. The Demons have broken no rules.

at least 6 interstate trips, home games at Etihad?

GWS' whole season has been about experimenting, playing youth, resting youth and even persisting with a Rugby League convert who didn't get a kick. Fairly sure the coaching panel werent trying to win every game they played in. Tanking?

Some North Supporters I know were really expected good things from Speight. I was wondering whether Matt Campbell would be worth a look although he seems to have a few issues
-
I would expect that if there are sanctions handed out the the MFC over this BS that we will end up in court. That is real court not the AFL's Kangaroo Court!!
I think the AFL know that this is a distinct possibility and therefore nothing will come out of it

Barrett makes his hysterical grandsatnding statements on the radio but when he interviews a representative of the MFC, Harrington or Neeld, he doesnt fire a shot, doesnt allude to his opinion and meekly pretends he understands their approach.

Damo: "Well, then ok...but, but Dawes and Rodan.."
Jerk..
the fact that we were pushing hard for Dawes 12 months ago would indicate that he was on the radar.

Is it more about clearing as much deadwood as possible?

Barrett is a moron who claims that we chased Dawes without a plan just because he was available despite the fact the we were chasing him last trade period. Not sure why he thinks his opinion is worth anything.

Terry Wallace has been reasonably fair in his assessment and really who would care what Damien Barrett thinks he is a poor mans excuse for a journalist and certainly no more an expert than anycouch potato who watches the game

I think Denham has the perfect face for radio

On AFL trade radio just now (in the 2 mins i grabbed before it dropped out again!) Mooney was very critical of our approach to trading this year, basically saying we had got spooked and gave way too much away. Said we should not have traded away number 3, 13 and 20 (though did acknowledge Viney going thru to second round was part of the deal so i'm not quite sure how he comes to his conclusion) and instead should have used those picks to build for the future rather than a short term fix. Wallace didn't disagree.
Its funny the different perspectives you get. I'm rapt with how things have gone so far. Hogan is certainly a punt, but contradicting Mooney's view is a punt for the future. Dawes is still young so he is both helping us now but also perhaps for the next 6-7 years or so. He didn't mention Barry - if he becomes a regular best 22 player people will reassess this trade quite significantly.
I also think he underestimates the importance of having some more wins next year. Bottoming out and going thorough seasons of losing is a huge risk and really damage a club IMO. I reckon GWS and GC will struggle to overcome this.
We have been down way too long and for the club to to move forward needs wins next year to allow the fans and players to see teh light at the end of the tunnel
Mooney says its a change of approach from Neelds first year which focused on youth. Not sure what he is refering to. Last year we went after Mitch Clark as a priority in a compromised draft (GWS dominated)
