A benefit of him occasionally playing as a mid is that it gives another pack marking option in general play, whereas normally it is the sole ruckman and whatever key position player is in the vicinity. A couple of times Weed and Jackso were flying for mark or spoils in general play. I'm not sure if it happened on Saturday but the two rucks (say Jackson and gawn) could also take opposition wings making it harder for opposition teams from kick outs outs or when clearing defence. The marking power around the ground gives us a point of difference. Also means Tmac and Weed are not under so much pressure to push up the ground to be a marking option. Tomlinson helps wit this aspect as well as he is a tall lump.

We had stopped doing it by about round 13 as it was factor in us getting opened up. From that point to the end of the season we had the least points scored against us IIRC. Great goody is experimenting again with it but i suspect he might be a bit more circumspect with such a tactic this season.

One missed tackle by Jones in that scenario as far as i can recall. Plenty of missed tackles across the whole game by other players.

Adding to your points WB i'd add the decision not to have a leadership group outside a captain and VC is cleaver in so far as it makes both positions more significant in some respects and therefore mitigates a bit the impact on Viney of being demoted.

Don't agree. Hibberd was fine. Made some errors, has no right foot (why ask for it on his right side?) But looked in good nick and showed some his old dash and ability to clear defence. Omac was quiet but did his job. His direct opponent took just one mark on him and only kicked a point. Unlike some of the other defenders didn't give up goals through silly frees and turnovers and again unlike other defenders his few disposals all hit targets.
