  1. No disrespect to either, both of whom were stars for the dees, but i have little doubt Koz will go past both.
  2. @WheeloRatings Thanks wheelo, that would be brilliant (adding that data manually to this thread). The pressure data for the roos game is interesting. The Roos were poor, but to my eye it was more about their system, particularly their defence, and of course their talent level, that was the issue not their effort. And to that end, i was interested to hear Clarkson's comments basically saying the same thing in his post-match presser. The pressure ratings appear back this perspective up (dees first column): Pressure Q1: 189 - 185 Q2: 169 - 161 Q3: 168 - 160 Q4: 153 - 139 Tot: 169 - 163
  3. Thanks so much DD for your thoughtful reply. I wonder it it's worth pinning this to top of this thread (i recall now that this info was on the first such thread)
  4. Ta. Post duly fixed! As an aside, and at the risk of derailing the koz fest, outside of dees supports, is Fritter the most under rated player in the AFL? A relatively comparable player role wise is Jemery Cameron. Cameron is an undisputed star, and his numbers this season are unbelievable. I'm not saying Fritter is better, or even as good as Cameron. Rather, i'm using Cameron as a benchmark for Fritter. And when you compare their career stats , Fritter doesn't lose too much by way of comparison (its worth noting that Fritter played a big chunk of i think 2019 in defence): Player Statistics Comparison Bayley Fritsch Name Jeremy Cameron Melbourne Demons Team Geelong Cats Forward Position Forward 115 Career Games 217 Casey Demons Origin Dartmore December 6, 1996 Date of Birth April 1, 1993 26yr 4mth Age 30yr 0mth 188cm Height 196cm 84kg Weight 94kg 2017 National Draft Last Drafted In Round 2, Pick #31 Last Draft Position Melbourne Demons Last Drafted By Career Stats for Season Career 115 Games 217 8.8 Kicks 9.3 3.9 Handballs 3.6 12.7 Disposals 12.9 4.9 Marks 5.3 1.6 Goals 2.6 0.9 Behinds 1.4 1.8 Tackles 1.5 0 Hitouts 0 2.2 Inside 50s 2.6 0.5 Goal Assists 0.6 0.8 Frees For 1.0 0.7 Frees Against 1.2 4.5 Contested Possessions 5.0 8.3 Uncontested Possessions 8.0 8.9 Effective Disposals 8.7 70.1% Disposal Efficiency % 67.4% 2.1 Clangers 2.5 0.7 Contested Marks 1.0 1.7 Marks Inside 50 2.5 0.3 Clearances 0.3 0.8 Rebound 50s 0.2 1.4 One Percenters 1.6 0.1 Bounces 0.1 83.2 Time On Ground % 87.8
  5. And also, culturally appropriate to involve Aboriginal player's families in such discussions and processes (assuming that is ok with said player). The importance of involving family when negotiation with Aboriginal players (again, with their permission) is reflected in this quote from Kossie: “The club has embraced me and my family, and I can’t thank them enough for their support. Everything I do is to make my family proud and the respect and understanding my teammates and coaches have shown us means a lot."
  6. I didn’t realise it was King's Birthday round coming up already! I can't begin to say how wrapped i am about this. I just love watching him play footy so, so much. Already one of my all-time favourite dee's player, only one demon player is ahead of him for me in terms of just loving watching him play, and that's the Wiz - and now he is dee moving forward i'm sure in time i won't be able to split them Big, big tick to the footy club for how they have managed this situation - and all the other recent big contract negotiations, including Jackson’s - which by the by is increasingly looking like pure genius. They have locked away not only our best players, but heart and soul players. Salem, Maxy, Trac, Oliver, Gus, Lever, Petty, Nibbler, Viney, May, Fritter and now Kozzie all locked in (not sure where langers is at contract wise). Add Rivers, Mcvee and Sparrow all recently resigning and Grundy and Hunter being in the first year of multiyear contracts and we are in fantastic shape list wise. That is all down to the off field team and is yet another reminder that sustainable on field success is not possible without quality governance and management systems.
  7. @WheeloRatings That is brilliant. I actually checked the the stats for the roos game re time in forward half on your site on Sunday. And couldnt see it. And checked then and still can't. Am i missing something or is this data yet to be added to the site and you have just (super helpfully) put them in this thread?
  8. @Demon Dynasty G'day DD - i know you have put up the def etc for the player rankings you post in this thread (whcih ius fanttic by th ewya) prvioulsy. But i cant recall the specifics Am i right in assuing the ranbkings are the official AFL player rankings (which i presume is a champion dta thing) not a system you have designed? And if yes, is the def as per this table;
  9. No i didn't, that is so brilliant. Thanks wheelo (have also now just seen the stats from the roos game)
  10. i think all AFL data is generated by champion data, and i assume so is the player rnakings. I just tried to find a defintion of how they calaculate it, but unbelievably struggled to find one. I found this def from this 2020 article (note the authour notes about the table - 'i went looking for a similar explanation of the AFL Player Rating system on the AFL website, but any such information seems to have been removed in the latest upgrade of the site). (also note: i'm not sure if this formula was adopted - does anyone have a recent defintion?)
  11. It's not a question of needing to find a forward per se to get dropped Both petty and spargo will come in. Who will get dropped? I think there is a good chance a regular 22 will be managed or some such. If so that would be one. But if not I'm guessing harmes comes out. And jordon is the sub. That's one. And unless they want to give him another run (which id like to see), schache comes out too.
  12. Spargo will not be at Casey next week This is a general comment - - and im not having a go at you - but i contiued to be amazed that so many posters don't seem to get how important spargo, and Nibbler for that matter, is to our team and our system, as evidenced by the regular suggestion he is going to be, or should be, dropped. Which is flat out bizzare, because as is the case with Nibbler such calls never get answered. I mean, surely the fact there is NO evidence his place as a regular best 22 is under threat would give people pause before suggesting Spargo is in the gun. Spargs played EVERY game in 2022 and in 2021, a premiership year. Played every game this year too until injured. There is zero chance he is not selected in the ones next week if fit. And if you want further evidence, have a listen to Goody's post match presser. Right at the end he is talking about who we will 'get back next week'. Spargs is the only player he mentions. And by the by, he plays different role to Chandler so it's not one or the other.
  13. That's what i'm talkin' about!!!!!
  14. Their best and most important player. Massive out.
  15. That collision was huge. Three players smashed into each other. I was amazed watching live that they all got up. That's [censored] for petty.
  16. Yep, that's exactly how I see hom being used - this year and beyond.
  17. I won't be booing him either. But i'm sure as heck not going to be applauding him. I'm happy to applaud Sauce Baker (and did so when we played the dogs), Bedford and Weed. But not Jackson. We used a lot of trade capital on Jackson, invested time and resources into him and made him a decent offer to stay by all accounts. And he bailed on us. It would be different if, like Hogan and the Wiz (who was, and remains, right up there in all my time fav player rankings), he requested a trade on compassionate grounds - but he didn't. I'm not knocking him for making the decision to go to Freo, after all it's a cutthroat industry as evidenced by the fact clubs cut players (and coaches for that matter) that don't want to leave all the time (eg Hunty). And as a professional athlete he has a relatively small window to maximize his earnings. If he can wrangle it and play for the team he barracked for as a kid, in the city where he wants to live, on huge coin then all power to him. But that's where my generosity of spirt ends.
  18. Yesterday i made joke at my own expense to my wife. She laughed and followed up with a (gentle) joke of her own about me. Red card - as i said to her, i can make a joke about me but others can't!
  19. No, i don't. I will be super surprised if, in our finals set up, he is not playing as key defender. It is no coincidence our defensive worries and less effective defensive intercepts have coincided with Petty going forward.
  20. Thanks viper. I watched Tuesday's 360 last night and Goody was one of the coaches (scott the other). He was asked specifically what his preferred forward set up was. He said resting rusting ruck and two talls. There was no equivocation, so i'm even more confident that come finals that will be the set up. Fingers crossed one of those talls is Van Ruin (because that would mean he has maintained his form and earned his spot, which is exciting). That would leave Tmac, BB and perhaps as wildcard, Schache fighting for the other tall spot. Another interesting comment from Goody was that JVR was still building his capacity to do the sort of up and down the ground running and being a marking option in the back half that Tmac does.
  21. 100% agree. His athleticism, and as you say ability to won his own ball when rucking, are his key strengths and exactly what makes him such a unique talent On the flip side, he has some weaknesses on his game atm. He is not a natural forward so his forward craft is average. He is not a one grab mark and not brilliant one on one if he can't run and leap to mark. He will improve all that stuff in tome - assuming their development program is effective. Part of the art of coaching is utilusing the strengths of each players and allowing them to lean into those to strengths. Nibbler is a good example. Not much point making g him a crumbing forward. Better to take advantage of his running power and fitness. Well, freo have risked unbalancing their side and their salary cap not to mention the risk of disharmony, to bring in a young player on huge coin and a long term deal, who is at least three years from his peak. And playing in him roles that do not take full advantage of strengths and expose his weaknesses. Crazy.
  22. Yep. And doesn’t get a do over on this phase of his development. And worse for his development is the fact he has to play out of position. He is not a forward, he is a ruck. And more the point, that is where he wants to play I heard him say mutiple times when at the dees his preference was to ruck because he likes 'to be where the ball is'. As I wrote a few times last year, the smart play, family stuff notwithstanding, was to extend for two years, learn his craft under the best ruck of the modern era, maybe snag a flag, and head home. By which time he could maybe cross over with nik nat, a player he modelled himself on, and take his mantle as number one ruck. Unless freo and Darcy part ways, he will remain the number on ruck at the dockers. Leaving what for Jackson? 60% forward with a little midfield experimentation thrown in? How does that work for him?
