The ancestors of some current Demonlanders were probably even then clogging up Jim Cardwell’s in-tray with letters asking “Is Norm Smith the right guy?”

They got their wish in 65 unfortunately. The fox is a legend of our MFC.

  2. Gus seems to be really enjoying it on the wing and is only getting better. Langers /Gus hopefully become formidable wingers. Gussy’s concussion issues keep him outta the engine room I reckon, everybody is now very aware of the future health of all players. Speed in the middle offensively and defensively is my call = Kozzie. He’s that quick he can crumb his clearance into the fwd line and GOAL ?. Spargs might surprise but he ain’t quick, has he ever been in there at a centre bounce, can’t recall it?

    Make no mistake.
    Fritta's sneaky mean.
The forearm wasn't an accident and neither was the essendon fella into the goal post.
I particularly enjoyed that one and watching him slink away like nothing happened.

Gotta agree with you fork, I too have seen that harder side in fritta and I reckons he’s copped more than his share and looks for some payback.

  4. Wasn’t overly confident of the win, but did tip us by 12. Maturing every week, “The Learnings” ?. I reckon that Petty kid is going too get a lot better, seems to have a fair bit of competitive hardness, good hands and skills. Feck this is a great way too start the weekend, thanks THE MIGHTY DEE’S. I must say I even handled last weeks loss very calmly, what the………..?

  5. My pet hate and source of frustration is the amount of incorrect disposal/dropping the ball. If you take clean possession and it’s clearly not knocked out by tackle and you don’t dispose of it correctly then it’s either htb or incorrect/ dropping the ball. I haven’t ever had the desire to umpire a game, hats of to them.

    My two cents -

    What's fantastic:

    Being 9-0.

    What's to work on:

I felt the decision making / gameplan (not sure which of the two it was) yesterday had a lot of room for improvement. Absolutely ******* fantastic work from the team and the coaches in many, many respects this year, of that there is no doubt. But I feel, yesterday, we, to a degree, got out of jail against an average side by virtue of the fact that we have many skilled (and super-conditioned) footballers coming into their prime. Let's make a slight course correction and make sure we don't get away from some of the fantastic decision-making/gameplan stuff from earlier in the year re: lowering the eyes when heading into 50 and what not, and not head back towards something like Round 1 2012, against Brisbane, where we just continued to bomb it in to no avail or do blind kicks into space (when there are better options) to get out of trouble. Just because we now have a couple of experienced talls around the ground (and inside forward 50) who can get us out of trouble when need be doesn't mean we should continue to entertain that rush of blood to the head, and I would hope the team is led well enough that nabbing the four points doesn't just reinforce the behaviour. A premiership is the goal and I feel that, if we don't have Lever and May yesterday, we lose by 20 points to a middle-of-the-road team.

So, let's nip the bad habits in the bud, and go onwards and upwards.

    Go Dees.

A good two cents worth it is Lloyd and welcome.

Job done again, against a determined team. Very similar to all our wins in that we just stuck to the game plan and did all the team things. We have great leaders and fantastic hard workers who don’t stop working together.

Wow 9 weekends that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed in a footy season since............I cannot remember.

  8. Fantastic TEAM effort ALL day, we have a hunting pack of demons that work hard and share it together. Skills definitely improving and kicking for goal improved substantially as the game progressed. All the praise has been said in all posts, fantastic Dlanders.

Good to get a win, but being at the game there was not a lot to get enthused about. Same old skill errors, Oliver and Petracca still have that tendency to try something cute which ultimately leads to a turnover. They need to get that out of their game.
    Some positives:

I thought they showed a lot more maturity in stemming and turning around what looked like being a Freo comeback. The forward pressure was good. And of course May and Lever.

The biggest negative was Jackson. I honestly don’t know what his position is, was beaten easily in the ruck, and don’t see him in our forward structure going forward. And the less said about his kicking the better

Certainly didn’t think of Jacko being a negative, tried hard and contested well and took a couple of strong grabs, and kicked just like Melb do ?, I think we have marginally improved our field kicking, but that goal kicking, wow, more kicking practise pls chocco.

Do we even do goal kicking practice? Looked like an afterthought from some...

    Jackson 5 hrs goal practice.

We take a rd 1 win, gotta be happy for that. I certainly hope we can improve the amount of stupid mistakes, errors that we made under no pressure, luckily freo did too but I dgaf about them. From my viewing, tv, the boys all had a crack so I’m taking that as a step forward.
Missed some very easy goals, and I noticed the ump called that tracca ran off the line for the kick after the final siren, not that it mattered THIS time, and would have ruled no score! Anybody else notice this? Could be an interesting reference for, say a buddy kick after the siren for the win, tracca certainly didn’t arc like buddy but got called. Time will tell ?

    How about this Sue?

The players are aware we have a problem winning games we are expected to win. Our performances last year in Cairns were unacceptable. With a finals position on the line against two sides below us on the ladder, we simply choked. Some fans have accused us of 'drinking our own bath water'. Based on those performances in crucial games, they are correct. We let ourselves down but most importantly, we disappointed our fans . . . again. And for that, I say, on behalf of the players, we're sorry. You, the fans, supporters and members are the lifeblood of the club and provide us with a lifestyle most people can only dream about. And we abused your trust, support and love. For that, on behalf of the players, I apologise.

In 2021 we undertake to play a more accountable and disciplined style of game. This means further developing our individual strengths and minimising the influence our weaknesses have on the outcome of each game. For example, Jack Viney is committed to playing Aussie Rules each weekend, I'm gradually improving my goal kicking and hope to thread at least one per game this year and Maysie's target is to keep all the gorillas to two goals or less in each game he plays. All the players will be held accountable, both internally and externally, for their on field performances. To that end, Jack, Stephen and I will front the media each week, and on behalf of the players, answer for our performances as truthfully as possible.

Can someone email this to max please.

Basically agree with this but why is it so? You watch the Bulldogs and they just instinctively know where their team mates are, where they can handball out of trouble, often out of sight, behind the ball carrier. Some of Libber’s handballs over his head backwards push the boundaries of credibility for the Umpires surely.  But yes in comparison we seem disorganised despite year after year of training drills but it all doesn’t seem to work at AFL level, we still depend on the individual supremacy of Max, Tracc, Oliver et al to be competitive. That is individual dominance rather than a playing system that can dominate.

For the dogs there are always team mates ahead, sideways and behind. That builds confidence for the risk taking ball carrier trying to break defensive lines, that he will always have an emergency out. I don’t believe we create that confidence on game day. We provide it in our practice drills at training but come game day, under pressure the daring plays go missing. Is that because players don’t have support around them and players presenting forward of the ball? I don’t know.

Well said, earl, my thoughts as well. We don’t play as a team, no awareness of ya teammates positions. Yep, apparently we practise it in drills but still cannot do it under game  pressure.
