  1. Hope you have a 2nd farm.

It looked good on paper but we were absolute shizen today. At least going by this thread you weren't the only one to fork it over.

    You're right he wasn't

  2. What a player, has anyone seen a player like that racking up the possesions in the first 2 games. Demons young guns of 2010 are doing well ,cant wait to see Tapscott and Gawn out there

Gysberts was outstanding. Very cool and composed. At times he looked like a veteran. A bright spot in a very ordinary day

  3. I can understand the midfielders angst. We dominated the 2nd quarter and yet were outscored, we should have been within 3 goals IMO. We played some reasonable footy thru the corridor but nobody was in the forwardline to present. Lost count of how many times we have seen this happen over the years, but it looks like we`ll have to put up with it for a while yet.

I agree with your comment but WHY do we have to put up with it?

  4. 3rd Qtr showed lots of potential.

I never expected finals this year and anyone who did was really getting a bit ahead of themselves.

Finals in the foreseeable future - definitely; as sure as these kids will grow into men.

I didn't want to post to this effect before the game, but the general expectation amongst the threads seemed to be that MFC would win this game.

I tried not to be too pessimistic but, after all, CFC should be ahead of us.

AS much as today sucked, our future is no less bright IMO.

The problem with finals in the foreseeable future is that we have no forwards. Yes Brad Green is a Trojan and maybe Jurrah will become what we all hope. Today Watts looked looked Newton on a bad day and worried me. Pettard?

  5. Given the development of these 2 sides I think this is a season defining (must win) game for Melbourne. Also given the nature of the sides Jamar's game will be critical- first use fast movement forward

  6. Last week on Whiteboard Wednesday, Cameron Schwab made two telling observations

    - We have the lowest supporter base in the AFL ( but the highest membership conversion rate - hence our record membership this year)

    - We have the lowest number of Auskick enrolments of any club - by a significant amount.

This is consistent with statistics on the DreamTeam website - which show Melbourne with the fewest number of registrations - but with the highest average score per person. This is just a reflection of what we know already - that Melbourne supporters understand the game better than anyone else !!!

So we have a passionate intelligent supporter base - but it is small supporter base and it is not a young supporter base..... and supporter numbers influence sponsors

Now is the time for all of us to really start talking up Melbourne - to start telling the kid next door to ignore his parents and cross to the Dees to follow Skull and Trenners and the Waipiri Wizard... and get with the excitement

And we have a great story to tell newcomers to Melbourne ................ the founders of the game, the core of the peoples'ground, the community club - and of course Jimmy.

We are doing well converting supporters to members - but we need more supporters to grow our revenue.

I know the club is looking to build our supporter numbers in the Casey growth corridor - but we can help if we all continue to put out positive messages

Let's make sure we are not last on ANY table in 2011

A few years of consistent success and guys like Scully, Jurrah etc becoming "superstars" will boost memberships better than anything.

  7. Yeah, and I manage to beat my 8 year old pretty much every time we have a 200 metre running race. (I liked Robbo but let's face it... his time was up as a force at the Dees)

    Good call

  8. I've been following the Demons for over 50 years and apart from Neil Crompton and watching the brilliance of Number 2 during our ritual floggings in the 70's and 80's there have been few moments of pure joy.

Things have finally changed- Scully Trengrove Grimes Mc Kenzie Jurrah etc have kickstarted my ticker. I actually believe a flag is on the horizon

  9. As has been suggested on here by several scribes, is Rivers being played now to make him a more valuable trade next season given that is the only way to enhance your list for the next two years.

It is an interesting question. If we were to trade, given our accumulation of first round draft picks, what sort of players do we want. Once we have everyone up and running, where are our glaring weaknesses?

Perhaps I could start with where we are strong: backs tall and medium; on ballers great once the young develop; forwards terrific potentially once we get them all back and JW matures.

So what do we need? I still believe we badly need a David Neitz type of player ie large body, very strong, quick lead, strong mark, long accurate kick. There Is no-one on our list that's near that except maybe Fitzpatrick when he matures. Secondly, a second ruck. I don't believe either meesen or Spencer cut the mustard here. PJ potentiaaly might - it will be intersting to see how he performs at the weekend. Gawn is a long term (ie 3-5 years IMO) but extremely promising prospect but we need someone in the next 2-3 years capable of dominating finals football ie a Jolly type. I don't believe we have one on our list at the moment.

What do others think? Any other gaps? Any players in particular we should target?

We sure need forwards. Let's hope Hughes shows something and JW hits his straps. IMO there is not much available at the moment.

  10. For some reason i dont quite think Stef Martin is or will ever be at the level to play AFL footy.

It seems like he just doesnt want to be there, which is fair enough with a VCE enter score of 99.85 or something like that he should be a doctor!

If u watch him close it looks like he is uninterested and doesnt put 100% in. Really seems like he isnt enjoying the job that all of us would pay for.

I thought he showed real promise last year but has moved like a draught horse this year

  11. Paul Johnson coming in ahead of Cheney would just be proof that life isn't fair.

I'd prefer to keep Stef Martin than bring PJ in anyway.

I like Cheney but Johnson will allow Jamar some time up forward and he is quite mobile

  12. I would rather see some pace brought in rather than another tall. If you really wanted him in I think Martin would have to be dropped.

Has he been that good for Casey?

Martin cannot take a mark. Johnson is a good option.
