Another case for Ben Brown being a good match for the Dees (apologies if this has been posted elsewhere in the thread):

This is an interesting insight. Slightly off topic but I do wonder what the final piece of the puzzle is given our list is looking better at the top and Goodwin appears to be a Hardwick style coach (I really hope that proves to be true). Is it simply just a reliable forward that will turn our fortunes? We certainly looked the goods when Tmac and Hogan were playing well.

May was a great pick up and came under an injury cloud we lifted last year. I am surprised Cameron would pick Geelong who i think were throwing the dice for the last time this year.

  2. Interesting week.

Kozzie looks like he needs a rest but seems to apply pressure which was the key to our win and is the hardest thing to judge from the armchair. I am no spargo fan but he seems to be doing the same and was there at a critical moment. Kozzie out for a rest. Certainly we should think about max in the next 2 matches and he should sit one out for Pruess who was good in his matches. I would also consider Hunt for his speed against the swans. Just glad i am not on the match committee as the next few weeks are a puzzle that you could get horribly wrong. What we got right was a plan that worked and we executed.

  3. An important story and a reminder we have a long way to go to understand the terrible effects of racism, in all its subtle and not so subtle forms, has on people.

  4. Jackson's second efforts and ability to stay in the contest were a delight to watch. Lockhart doesn't come back until he is fully fit, ditto Gawn. I thought TMac was ok for us last week so he stays in a forward role. I am not convinced Tomlinson is a back but he is a utility option for us.  I would get Harmes to tag as it builds his confidence, often when he has been in that role he bobs up for great goal. Pruess take your shot! The question is who comes out for Bennell, who gives us more foot skill and class going forward.

  5. Why can't the AFL apply a sanction now? The vision is damning and why David King said it shouldn't have been brought up by the coach completely befuddles me. He goes on (rightly) about concussion issues but continuous sniping at a player to cause injury is unremarkable. Goodwin was absolutely right to call it out and should continue to do so.

  6. We were close but sloppy and I think the call for heads is somewhat reactive. Jackson gives us a different dimension down forward and always tries to follow up. Weid had a mare but was doing the right things and wont repeat his kicking performance (not on his own) we need to show some faith in him now. Jetts (who is one of my faves) will be rested, bad night at the office.

We should have beaten the flag favourite so we show the faith in this combo and fix the little things. Only changes Rivers for Jetts and possibly Tmac for a forward, but who is the question.   No ANB for mine just doesn't offer anymore than the alternatives.

  7. Interesting comments from Max and Goody. Rewatched the game last night and it only confirmed my prejudice that Lockhart did all the right things but can execute better at times. We still have brain fades across the field which lead to bad disposal (or throws). Our mid field cohesion was great so I just dont see why we would change that. One of the highlights was Dermie becoming Squirmy at half time. what impressed me was the cohesion we had across the ground. A few things to fix (Cossie needs to learn a solid tackle) but no wholesale changes.

  8. Two observations from being at the ground. Lockhart does a lot off the ball and looks like a key part of the defence. He is clearly still learning and does get beaten from time to time but it would be harsh if he was dropped unless he needs the rest.

I thought Vanders in his first 2 outings looked off the pace but having seen him live in the last 2 outings he adds some real presence around contests. He had couple of terrible disposals but there was a sense of panic on the part of the Hawks when they heard him coming (or felt his presence). I think he is doing a job off the ball as well.

I doubt it will be a tough week for selectors with everyone doing their job, just bad luck for those not included this week. Very hard to see any change.

  9. Just home from our new fortress Giants stadium. What a delight to see 2 wins in a row. We were absolutely sublime. I cant speak again voice shattered and the experience so the much better for having Hawks supporters there. Max was immense as was Trac but it was a whole team performance. Some great support for Oscar as well with one supporter near us confessing very loudly he was wrong about Oscar.

  10. It has been a cold and overcast week here with quite a bit of rain. The ground last Sat looked quite cut up and with a game on it this Sat by Sunday it could again be a bit rough and certainly soft. That will mean Max will need help in the ruck and we may need to factor that into final selections. I surmise thats why they went for Jackson who can pinch hit in the ruck and leave Weid at home down forward.

You watch the Hawks play keepings off just like the cats did.

It will be very interesting to see if Goody react this time rather than not being prepared for it.

    Big test this week.

Indeed. If Lockhart needs a rest I'd go with Rivers. In place of TMac I'd like to see us play Jackson who may be too mobile for their ageing backline. I think it would be a mistake to go for Brown who is exactly the sort of Forward their backs are used to dealing with.

Kudos to the demon fans who were shouting from the stands.

"He's been doing it all night" was gold in the first 5 min.

Just home from the game. A very small crowd but it had a big voice! I have lost mine.

A special mention to Umpire 20, probably the second best for the Suns after Rankine. His calls on Langdon were what i will call politely "surprising". From my perspective the holding the ball calls were just impossible to understand.

The Suns had a handful of unbelievable goals and were gifted a couple. We were the better side on the night. What you probably didn't see on TV was how hard Langdon worked to get to position and create options that were often not taken.

Max and viney were immense. Just brilliant being there with a crowd that was just Dees supporters. A big thank you to the club.

I’m a Sydney based member, I received an email from the club early in the week to go into a ballot to get a ticket/s to today’s game. I live 15 minutes from the ground so I thought I would apply, only to find out its one ticket per member. I understand the one ticket per member during the finals but this is a game against Gold Coast being played at Giants stadium. Not sure whether this an AFL or club decision but it’s a poor one.

I only got one ticket as well, I think its either an AFL, venue or Govt decision. Someone with contacts at the club told me the club only got about 200 tickets for local supporters. Dont know how reliable that rumour is but if true you really did win the lottery!
