  1. I'm sure what hurt Cam the most was that we were NOT EVEN PREPARED to say, " If you play well next season, we MAY look at giving you another one year contract."( No PROMISE of a further one year contract) ).............. No doubt about it.

Well i don't know what extra information you have that I don't. I wasn't in the meeting and couldn't possibly know that. Were you?

I would say there is a LOT of doubt about it.

  2. I have just had a very interesting conversation with a respected past player of the club. He is not 100% happy about the Brian Royal appoinment as well. However for different reasons. He has no worries with Royal as a coach. What he said was that Chris Connolly stuffed up the situation. He said he was told half way through the season that Knights would be sacked and Hird appointed the new coach of Essendon. Connolly should have known that and that Wellman and Hird are good friends. So therefore as he said Connolly should have nailed Wellman down with a water tight contract with very short time to sign to see if he wanted to stay at Melbourne towards the end of the season. The other reason is that the timing was bad for the football department. He thought the appointment of Royal was OK in the situation. But he is worried with the coaching at both ends of the ground. As he said we are well covered in the midfield with the having Todd Viney at the club. He thought Todd would be vital in improving play around the ball-up and boundary situations with stoppages of play.

The other comment was that he thought 2011 will be the real test for Bailey. He saw signs in 2010 that Dean Bailey could be a very good coach.

He also said that he expects all Melbourne people to yes support the club but make sure that the right decisions are made. As he said we have had the head in the sand period that could have sunk the club. The past players he speaks to are now more concerned with what is happening at the club. He said we have a very healthy situation at the club and we all should make sure it stays that way.

I try pretty hard not get too personal on this site, but i've got a funny feeling you are completely full of 'manure' to word it nicely. This smacks of a lame attempt to fictionalize some support for your theories. To be honest, I hope I am wrong.

  3. He is 21,so has time on his side where as Johnson was 27 i think. Need a Jamar back up while the others develop so wouldnt hurt on the rookie list i guess

You are referring to Thorp? He's no ruckman.....

  4. Also the CJ thing stung a bit. Not cos he's a great player, but because it painted the club in a bad light. If Jurrah or Bail turn out to be better players than CJ then we have the last laugh, as they were players we may not have taken with our extra pick.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha lol

  5. Would think we are going to be pretty speculative with our 5 rookie picks this year, given our pretty deep talented list. If we fill our needs with the 4 ND picks, some left field roughies could get a rookie run which is always exciting I think.

    Some names to throw around with some "X" about them that interest me (if any of them last that long);

    Kirk Ugle

Isiah Stevens (my personal favorite of the group)

    Jarrod Ninnyette

    Leif Cope

    Jimmi Savage

    Tyler Chalwell

  6. Ok, so you still don't get it.

One last time, for old times sake. NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT ANY CHANGE TO FRAWLEY'S MAIN ROLE IN THE TEAM!

It was just an idea for the occasional change up, for say 5-10 minutes when it fits for a plan X. Damn... How close minded are some of you?! I'm sure glad DB doesn't think like you guys

  7. ...but the fact of the matter is he is an AA in his 4th year as a tall defender that rebounds quite a bit and gets into the middle more than many defenders.

I wouldn't be changing that much.

I think we are all in agreement on this. This would be only when there is a mismatch, better defensive option or need for a spark in the midfield, so hopefully not often at all! But to use it as an X factor play to steal/save a match from gridlock i think has merit! It certainly wouldn't hurt his normal defensive game to train a little in the midfield either, again not huge chunks of time but enough to have him as an option. Flexibility is a great part of our players strengths, I would like to see our coaches exploit that more in the future when the skills are more finely tuned. Something tells me that is exactly why DB did as much swing work when he did... To use it later

  8. I wasn't being sensitive, critique is fine. A one line sarcastic slur is fine too, but weak on his part. It should also be open to critique should it not?

As to backing for the argument, what more than what I have offered do you want from me? It is only a frivolous off season daydream after all.... Or did you miss my other post?

You make an idiotic post, then claim being called on it is weak?

Then you try to defend your idiocy in the name of frivolity..?

This is where you can a bit of a snake in the grass sometimes E, contorting peoples statements to try and win an argument. I didn't claim being called on it was weak, in fact I said it was fine. You calling me on it with a cheap sarcastic one line statement that offers nothing to the debate than the attempt at humour which is the way over used 'face palm' gag. Now if that ain't weak, I don't make the best Manhattan from Paris to Budapest. Which I do.

  9. You're a damn fool.

You make an idiotic post, then claim being called on it is weak?

Then you try to defend your idiocy in the name of frivolity..?

    Give up.

And you are out of control. Idiocy is an extremely strong term for the suggestion of a 193cm, 91kg highly talented player have brief cameos in the midfield. Apart from reminding all of us idiots that we have midfielders already you have put no form of argument up whatsoever! This was a suggestion of 'spurts', not a total reshuffling of the bloody lineup! Keep your smug arrogant comments in check dude... Disagreeing is one thing, your form of debate is a complete other.

And don't embarrass yourself with comments like 'Not Freudian at all.' Just reinforces peoples knowledge of you being far more ignorant than you realize.

  10. Give some backing for the argument, otherwise the arse will fall out...

Posters put their ideas for them to get critiqued.

  11. Is his tank up for it?

I resoect the question but i guess it's kind of irrelevant as I can't see him needing to play there for more than say a quarter. But as a left of field play to break up a game? His tank would be more than enough to rattle some cages (if not teeth... :))

  12. A moment of thought would possibly make you realize what an incredibly stupid suggestion it is.

Ignoring the fact there would be no need to throw him in the middle with our group of talented mids...

You'd be playing away from his significant strengths of bodywork, positioning and reading the ball in the air.

What qualities does he possess that would make him a good midfielder?

What would make him a better option than all the better mids we currently have?

I'm willing to listen to a reasonable argument, but right now there is none.

    Your serve.

First and foremost let me qualify a little by saying I'm in no way suggesting he be moved into the midfield permanently or even for an entire game. However spurts on the ball against a smaller forward line, similar to perhaps a Carlton at the moment (yes, i'm well aware he plays equally well on smalls), when we feel we are matching them well with the likes of Garland, MacDonald, Grimes, Bartram or Petterd/Dunn/Bail would be an exciting and worthwhile experiment I feel.

I know we have a "group of talented kids.." (no wait, you said mids, how Freudian) but don't be so narrow minded as to think his combination of pace, strength, height and reading of the play would not unsettle even the most professional of opponent midfields. Oh, I was going to answer your two questions but realized I already had.

    Questions?

  13. Chip in the midfield?

You actually think that's a good idea??

    <insert facepalm image>

Yes, in burts, or I wouldn't have posted a reply in agreement. Don't be too quick to sarcastically throw down every comment you come across E25, a moment of thought sometimes prevents a longer moment of humility. Sheesh

  14. James Frawley would absolutely destroy the mid-field and if we ever get the opportunity to do it, I'd stick him in there, if only just to change a game's flow.

Oh and wouldn't he love it too, i can just see the grin. :)

  15. Now this among other posts is also going too far.

I don't condone or agree with DM's first post. It was poorly written and lets hope I'm right here, didn't properly convey his message which was less about slurring a group of people as commenting on a group of people.

This is where the PC hissss starts to annoy me a little. We censor ourselves far too much these days. Just as much segregation and damage to becoming one people world wide is done by the supposed "good deed doers" who attack any form of commentary or debate. Why is it so wrong to express an honest opinion about any group of people so long as it is not hate fuelled? To say that there are not common attributes within most groups of society is naive and to be honest it can be one of the best parts of living in a truly multi cultural society like Australia has. But having a specific set of societal dos and don'ts that are fanatically enforced only exacerbates the problem by widening the divide.

Ask a good friend of mine. A Pakistani ex Muslim living in Germany. He pisses off almost every extremist group world wide with his lifestyle. But as he chews on a pork roll and washes it down with beer, he would no more tell you how to live your life than you would his.

To qualify why I am passionate about it, I am an Ambassador for a wonderful organisation CouchSurfing which is actively reducing bigotry worldwide through regular grassroots cultural exchange every day of the year.

Holy crap, don't think i was defending Miss Pauline here either, good gravy no! I was only a bit incensed by the comparison... Glad i had another look at the post I was replying too there..... lol
