  1. The year of the fan was last year, this year they don't give a stuff. I'm sure the price of pies and chips will return to normal as well
  2. Horrible news! Such a shock to read that, so young and a healthy guy as well you wouldn't expect to hear that. Hope he and his family are ok. Immediate thoughts were whether there could possibly be any correlation to the horrible injury he suffered at the boot of Steven King.
  3. I think we should invest in more pokie machines. They seem to be a pretty decent money spinner.
  4. Going by that list Wagner, Vandenberg and McKenna would be extremely lucky to be on the list next year.
  5. Jetta's going nowhere
  6. Ah of course, didn't think Cuthbertson ever played on Ablett
  7. I've got a few of these in the shed along with a stack of old footy records that I found a couple of weeks ago. When I grab them out I'll post some shots
  8. Under his alias Dr Who he blames the supporters negativity for the fact we haven't won a flag since 64. Never thinking that perhaps the lack of success bred the negativity, not the other way around. He's a troll and not a very good one.
  9. Everything the AFL Commission and Executive do is an attempt to monopolise the sport from grass roots to the AFL. The AFL itself does not benefit from pokies that I know of. They DO benefit from betting company sponsorships. Clubs benefit from pokies revenue and strengthens their financial positions which the AFL does not like. The AFL would rather clubs stay on the teat so they don't question the AFL whenever they try to implement another half arsed idea, don't question the AFLs restraint of trade on clubs by handicapping them financially with the fixture etc If the AFL forces us to get rid of our pokies licenses (something which they cannot really do without coercion) then I would tell them fine, you make up the shortfall and by the way we're not playing in NT anymore so you can cover that too with better fixturing.
  10. So Collingwood sells their pokies licensed to a racing club and the benefit to the community is???? Again, if idiots are going to pump money into electronic tax machines I'd rather it goes to the MFC than a racing club or some other nefarious operation.
  11. Nah, I've never heard of a member of an educational institution undertaking a study to push an agenda Ensuring you get the outcome you want is easy if you fix the parameters of your research - for example looking at the impact of AFL club owned pokies on domestic violence rather than pokies in general. Of course you're gonna get the outcome you want if you limit the extent of your study to such an extent. And no, I don't think any institution is above reproach or questioning. I found it laughable that such a report would exist - I still do. Revenue stream options are limited. Sponsorship, memberships, game day revenue, AFL dividends, merchandise. Unless the club really wants to branch out into external business operations (something which has been done at the Leighoak club and has been met with questionable success by other clubs and pro sports teams) then the most they can hope for is on field success, favourable fixtures and and growing the supporter base. Other ideas like an online "business directory" are extremely questionable whether they would offer any benefit and even if they do it would be a drop in the ocean.
  12. Nah he's deliberately obfuscating. Wilful ignorance I guess you could call it.
  13. Yes you can. I'm pretty sure I got the 87 one a while ago from them when they had their $10 sale. Also have the 89 one though I think it's from a vhs copy I recorded at the time.
  14. No no no, Pokies aren't bad - AFL club-owned Pokies are bad.
  15. Those things aren't mutually exclusive. You want to just accept any old agenda pushed by the AFL I'm more inclined to actually question the agendas, the motives and the personal interests of those peddling them. When you get studies from educational institutions pushing an AFL agenda you've got to wonder what's going on here. It is akin to Monash releasing a study on the health dangers of Hungry Jack's and never mentioning McDonald's.
  16. So the AFL is using Monash to provide studies that help them convince/coerce clubs to remove pokies?
  17. I get what you're saying, but the Hawks didn't have a 1st round pick let alone trying to get a priority pick so there was no reward for losing.
  18. Yep back to back against North and the Pies (on ANZAC Day no less!) 7 goals a piece, part of the reason Jakovich was kept out of the side til later in the year. The Geelong game referred to above was 93 tho, I was shocked when I checked thought he was gone by then.
  19. Is it your opinion that pokie machines owned by AFL clubs are more "evil" than any other pokie machines? If you are logical and agree that this is a ridiculous assertion then it raises a few questions, namely who is behind this "study" and what is their agenda?
  20. Ok, not media spin; inherent bias in the study.
  21. You talking about Cuthbertson? I think his last year was 93 or 94 definitely gone before Daniher arrived in 98.
  22. That study (or the media spin on it) is laughable - so AFL controlled pokies are bad and are linked to family violence but non-AFL controlled pokies are fine and dandy like sour candy . If you buy that I've got a bridge I'd like to sell. Would love to see who has funded this study and who is pushing the agenda for clubs to get out of owning pokie machines. If the state government wants to ban them I'll support it but to use footy clubs as scapegoats while other morally bankrupt people and organisations continue to profit from them is ridiculous. If the money is to go somewhere then I'd rather it go to the MFC over Crown Casino. Perhaps some at the AFL are worried that it is such a money spinner that clubs will soon have independence from the Commission and will no longer be able to be brow beaten by the AFL? After all ever since the Commission was created they have tried to weaken the clubs to the point they are wholly reliant on the AFL and will therefore not be able to stand up to them on any grounds for fear of being punished financially either directly or indirectly.
  23. Yes but in the meantime the big clubs are pulling 70k-80k members and are aiming at 90k (Richmond). We only recently beat the 40k mark and have an ageing supporter profile. Selling off the media rights club by club would be disastrous for us.
  24. Actually it was 93, surprised he was still around at that stage https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1993/091119930710.html Would love a copy of this game if anyone recorded it. I have a pretty large collection so if anyone has it and is interested in a swap PM me
  25. That Collingwood game was 98, cats game must've been 91 if Cuthbertson was playing?
