  1. Brian Taylor talks so much bullsh*t that I don't understand why anyone would give even a skerrick of credit to what he has to say. This is the same primate who on 3AW constantly struggles to give the correct time of day (all commentary boxes have a digital clock) and is incapable of performing simple arithmetic to work out scores and margins. Absolute gimp.

  2. IF it is true, which I doubt after hearing from Cam Schwab today, then he should NOT play for the MFC, Casey or Casey reserves again. As he would still be under contract at Melbourne until the end of the year, the club should ban him from playing anywhere at any level to prevent him from keeping up match fitness and practice etc.

  3. Does anyone think Sylvia is in trouble for his late bump in the 3rd qtr. A Freo player had to be helped by the trainer. Admittedly, I didn't get a good look at the replay.

Should get a reprimand at most. The footage shows that Sylvia's hand clips the Freo players mouth on the way through as Sylvia is turning to attack the ball. Purely accidental.

  4. Any ideas - obviously its new player show off time, its also profit/loss reporting time. I don't think there is anything to report in regard to football department signings. Would love a nice juicy sponsorship deal!

I certainly hope it goes along those lines, and not that Jim has had another setback :S

  5. DemonsHQ Melbourne FC:

The Dees confirm that Cameron Bruce will be leaving the club. He advised Dean Bailey of his decision this afternoon. Bruce will nominate for the national draft. The club thanks him for his outstanding career and we wish him well for the future.

Pretty solid day. Just told the boys that my time with the dees has come to an end...

Great times! Great friends! And an opportunity that has changed my life forever!! Thank you everyone for your support :)

    It's over, folks.

  7. Hadn't gotten around to donating this year, but after last night I logged on to the MFC website the first thing this morning and tipped in $1k. Means foregoing most of my Uni scholarship for this semester, but it is soooooo worth it. I'd readily throw in a silly commerce degree to see the MFC have a decade of success and win 4 or 5 cups (maybe wishful thinking ;))

For anyone interested, if you log in via your membership account you can set up a 6-month or 12-month payment plan through the Debt Demolition link rather than faxing in the form or ringing up the club.

Hope that you all come out in force and in your guernseys on Sunday when we roll the Tiges!

  8. I can't see beamer, jones, mckenzie and mcdonald all in the same line up.

They all play similar roles and we can really only afford to have 2 or 3 max in the team. Jones and Mckenzie need to play well next week and the loser of the two will make way for Moloney.

I think that's a little unfair on both Jones and McKenzie. Jordie will probably go close to getting the Rising Star Nomination this week, and Nate Jones has been great in the tough, in and under work over the last few weeks. Kicked some great goals also - can't see either of them being dropped.

  9. Agree on both but that not the inferences posters make from these stats.

I think you are forgetting that we have also drawn reasonable crowds to home games at the G against non-Victorian sides.

In the first 8 rounds we played 7 games at the MCG, 4 of which were home games, but only 2 were against Victorian sides (Hawthorn R1, Bulldogs R7). In the next 7 rounds we've had 3 home games at the MCG, admittedly all of which are against high-drawing Victorian sides. Both St. Kilda and Richmond have had home games against big-drawing clubs and are, on average, only drawing 900-1000 more people through the gate. I think that's a pretty exceptional effort on the MFCs behalf considering the dismal attendance figures of the past few years. A sign that disillusioned punters might be returning after the nuclear football winter.

As other posters have mentioned, strong attendances mean one less thing the media can attack us over. Furthermore, these numbers look increasingly lucrative to organisations unsure of where to place their sponsorship dollar. More spectators at the grounds means greater potential for exposure to sponsor brands etc.

  10. Its amazing when a truly outstanding goal is kicked by a player from anothe and the following happens:

    1. The OP makes an errant claim about what the papers say.

    2. Other posters can only come up with MFC goals to try (feebly) to better the effort of Franklins. I would have thought it was easier to come up with great goals from other clubs players like Fev, Rioli etc.

    3. I did say to get the red and blue goggles off for some more broadminded debate but its clearly too hard.

But well done on the you tube clips.

    1. The quotes from the papers provided by you actually go over and above the OP's contention, by suggesting the quoted "legends of the game" believe they were the best goals EVER - regardless of venue!

    2. I've already addressed why I only picked MFC goals. Furthermore, what exactly makes it "easier" to come up with great goals from other clubs?

    3. I would suggest that arguing against the claim they were the best two goals ever IS debate. Your opinion on the matter is just as legitimate, but to resort to belittling those with an opposing view suggests that you are not really interested in debate at all! Based on your line of argument Peter Hudson (former HAWTHORN champion) needs to get the brown and yellow goggles off before he engages in such a debate? In the real world everyone has biases and vested interests. One common one shared by most Demonland posters is a passionate relationship with the MFC.

  11. And what would ex champions of the game know??? Its just their opinions.

The contrasting goals given by Brettmcg are great goals. But Franklin's 2nd goal after his heroics six minutes are as good as anything I have seen. To do what he did and to kick the goal from where he did is better than any other goals put up.

Stunning performance. People need to take off the red and blue goggles sometimes and realise the enormity of the performance.

Ex-champions of the game also go to Sportsmen's nights and make racist comments. ;)

Interesting that you claim "they are only opinions" and then two sentences later proceed to tell other posters they are blinkered because they don't agree with your opinion. I don't think any poster in this thread has neglected to acknowledge how good the performance was, but MY OPINION is simply that they were not the best goals I have ever seen.

As for the videos, it was simply an exercise in tailoring my post to a Demon audience. Not sure if you suffer from early-onset memory loss, but the last time I checked this is a Melbourne forum.
