Judd McVee Contract
And things change. As multiple posters have said now, he wasn't good enough to play midfield having been given the chance. IMO, he isn't good enough to play midfield. He could play back of stoppage, but it was clear from the end of 2024 that he can't handle frontal pressure. We saw it again in that final Collingwood game in 2025. He's an excellent half back with an ability to rebound and to lock down. This is where he could be elite. He's an asset in the back half, but if he wants to play midfield, the club is sensible in not overstating his value (if that's indeed true), because it's not his go.

Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
Terrible jumper. Please don't post that again.

Rumours
Pretty good. I wouldn't go after him but if he wanted to come, he'd help our midfield. Good ball user. Would make our midfield better. Not sure about cap.

Scarlett was running the match committee was he?

The Brody Mihocek Thread
I'm not deliberately conflating speed of ball movement with speed of players, but you have to take into account forward half pressure and other personnel already in the team (Melksham and Fritta).

The Brody Mihocek Thread
Agreed. Which is why it's a funny list management approach for me.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Which I love, by the way. And more importantly, I think it finally puts to rest who Scartlett headbutted in 2007.

The Brody Mihocek Thread
So IMV we need more speed in our forward half. Given King's desire to play fast, attacking footy, I'm not entirely convinced we need Mihocek. But let's say we got him, our forwardline could look like this: Chandler Mihocek xxxx JVR (2nd ruck) Fritta Melksham xxxx has to be someone with speed and ideally x factor (think McCreery), and ideally the 7th forward is also another with speed. Pair that with occasional forward play from Kozzy and that's enough speed. Without Mihocek, I think our forwardline has more balance to play a faster game. Chandler Melksham xxxx JVR Fritta xxxx xxxx I wonder if King's conversation yesterday and no doubt his other conversation with list management since he landed the position and up to trade week, will change our list strategy position. They need to be AFL standard, but IMV we've needed more pace and x factor in our forward half for years.

That's a much better deal than Trac for pick 6 and Flanders.

The Sam Flanders Thread
So Flanders and Victorian Ben King for Trac and our future 1st. Between Carlton, Suns and Melbourne. Trac to Carlton, Curnow to Suns, Flanders and King to Melbourne. Or leave Flanders out of it altogether. Or I'd QLDer Walter, but would he take us? Our Kingy could sell Gold Coast Kingy a faster more attacking game style that will make King more dangerous, he gets to play on the MCG every second week. It's pretty compelling. @old55

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Yep, thanks mate. I watched it courtesy of Fox releasing the video hours ago. Our website were hours behind.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
I thought the questioning around long bombs was pretty disrespectful, and the lack of reflection on the fact we are a quick transition team already. But I think what Kingy emphasised, which was good, is how you set the ground up to move the ball quickly. And I think in this respect, that's the strongest hint he's got good IP around how to do that. And coming from the transition specialists in Geelong, he'd have great IP on this. Not to mention his time at the Bulldogs in terms of offensive power. In that regard, I hope we keep Chaplin and use him as defensive coach again, but time will tell.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
Very excited by Kingy. Interesting titbit around Selwyn. I wonder if we'll bring anyone else into the fitness team. It doesn't sort of sound like it, but who knows.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
This thread has become a bit like the Herald Sun articles announcing King as coach and all the other media surrounding his appointment. It's all about Buckley and Tassie. I'm more interested in how King is going to have us play, how he can galvanise the group and how quickly (if at all), he can turn it around. Given his extensive assistant coaching career, he will have connections all over the place, so provided the soft cap doesn't get in the way too much, he should be able to build a decent team around himself.

The Sam Flanders Thread
King will also have his own opinions on Flanders. I know Flanders played quite well under him, but he might also see the limitations...

Bluey's made a blue again. What did you think of the latest Naked Gun, bluey? I might trust you a bit more on comedy than footy.

He was a very nice kick in 1997. And that's important.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
One premiership as a captain and player. Two premierships as an assistant (2016 and 2022). I hope he doesn't get 3 as an assistant. Sorry Kingy. You're one of us now.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
And let's hope it's bullet dodged from us on Buckley and King turns into a premiership coach with us. 😉

That's how you do it! 👏👏👏

Haha wonder what Whitey thinks. I'm happy we've got someone from Geelong and King has more experience than James Kelly. Does this mean Jimmy Bartel comes in as faux head of footy in this position above Richo?
