Nothing new here. All of these journos claiming to know anything are just setting a wide range for social media klout. They can't be wrong if they say "as high as" or "between" and then set a wide range. We all know it'll be less than 50% but above 20%. This government has form when it comes to arbitrary benchmarks so they'll probably set it at 29.879% and claim the supercomputer spat out that number. Footy crowds seem quite triviap next to announcements for weddings and funerals. What is someone supposed to do on a Wednesday for a Saturday wedding if numbers are bumped up? Why not announce it on Sunday to allow a full 5 weekdays for businesses and people to prepare? The argument that a jump in cases could then lead to a change again is irrelevant because that's the case regardless of when the announcement is made. The government is simply playing politics here, an effort in minimising perception damage. ie if they announce on Sunday that weddings can have more people and footy can have more people but then need to tighten up again due to more cases, they look bad. But if they announce it two days before on Weds or Thurs, there's less chance they'll look bad. It's pathetic.

This is truly becoming a joke. Just utter madness. 20%. Why even bother trying to get a ticket. I'm AFL Members so maybe I'll get one?

What a terrible loss. Collingwood didn't even play that well.

Played SCG superbly.

lol undoubtedly our dumbest game of the year. We pick up the ball on a small ground surrounded by Pies and we just stand there. Time and time again. That's like 6 HTB now. Fmd.

Rating 2021 team Against 1998, 2000 & 2018
praha replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 94 team when healthy was imo the best team we'd had since 64, or at least in my lifetime. Many of the late 80s youngsters like Tingay, Viney, Lyon, Lovett, Lovell were all peaking. Just couldn't get them all on the park at the same time. For me it goes 2021 > 94 > 98 > 2000 > 2018 -
Brisbane looked so strong. We never looked like losing once the second half started. Truly surprised based purely on how well Brisbane were playing. What a win.

Guys and gals...we might be the real deal.

Awks

40 more possessions. 14 more inside 50s. 8 more clearances. 6 more centre clearances 11 more contested possessions 30 more uncontested possesions 18 more marks and on and on. We're not winning this. Brisbane is leagues ahead of the rest of the league atm.

Wiedermans positioning is terrible. You just know Brown would be better in the air tonight.

Brisbane play a lot like Sheedy's 2000 Bombers. They exploit the rules and do it well. They know exactly how to get away with petty [censored]. Fogan has been like that since day one. They know exactly how to get under the opponent's skin. Team to beat this year.
-
Brisbane are clininal. Lucky we're only 20 points down. Could blow out. We're not that bad. Just a bit off it.
-
Brisbane are good but I hate their macho persona. They need to get over themselves.
-
Brayshaw hasn't had much of the ball but his contest in the air and physicality has been [censored] immense.

Wait so I can sit in the GA MFC area in Olympic stand with my AFL Membership?
-
Tend to agree. All cases linked. If they find cases and can't immediately link them then a lockdown is inevitable but every single case has been related. Maybe reduced crowds.

Downside to this is you're in the AFL Reserve, which isn't terrible but against Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn we're greatlt outnumbered. Plus side is that you're pretty much guaranteed a Finals ticket and if we make the Grand Final against any Marvel-based on Interstate side you're pretty much guaranteed a ticket as well. It's against those bigger clubs with large AFL membership numbers that things get tricky. But even then, no two clubs have combined AFL membership to fill the AFL Reserve. So you basically boost your chances of a GF ticket by a significant amount.

They also kicked 12 goals from turnovers.

We're clearly top 8. At best easily top 4. Finish top 4 and we are genuine chance. Richmond started 5-0 in 2017, lost 4 in a row, and were belted a few times throughout the season. Including against a terrible Saints side late in the season in a match they were losing by 100 at one point. We could lose the next 3-4 and it won't matter. So long as we end the season strong. We have set ourselves up by starting 9-0 to have a very strong season. Suggesting we can't fit a flag because we lost by 1 point in hostile territory against a criminally underrated Crows side is classic MFCSS. We are literally one bad umpire call (or non-call) away from being 9-1-0 or 10-0. We undoubtedly have the strength and list to at least get to the GF. We are going to bed faced with many close games this year. If we can keep our losing margin to <20 points and win 7-8 of our remaining 12 games then we are locked into a double chance.

Umps got it wrong - need a please explain
praha replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
IMO we accept the result and move on. Part of what makes our game beautiful is that its rules are so open to interpretation. The AFL has tried to make it seem more clear and objective but reality is that many rules are applied subjectively ie. you often see free kicks awarded that are soft when obvious ones are missed moments earlier: you can sense the umpire is trying to make it up. A lot of the rule changes over the past 10 years have been introduced under the guise of "easing congestion" and otherwise but really it's about making the game easier to interpret. And arguably the outcome has been terrible rule changes that have made the game worse. The umpire made a mistake but that's that. We were up by 20 with 5 minutes remaining and lost. All game, Adelaide streamed it out of congestion with an easy kick and they did just that once again straight to Tex who kicked the winner. We lost. Move on. -
Dogs will spank us on current form of both sides. Sensing a slump at the moment and we could well end up 9-3 before Queen's Birthday. Not the end of the world.
