[censored] I miss the 'G.

Interesting that some anonymous person on social media attacks a player and it's media coverage for days on end. But the coverage of cultural issues embedded at the biggest club in the land is barely touched upon, relative. Anyone that has sat in corporate boxes during a Pies or Richmond home game with club heavyweights will know just how engrained racism, sexism and homophobia is in their cultures. And board members inn an earshot just letting it slide.

You could say the same of Melksham, Hibberd, ANB, and a few others, E. Spargo was an important role player towards the end of 2018.

Redbull/MFC Mini Advertorial in The Age...
praha replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
imo the club should sign magic and fairy dust as sponsors. that way everyone is happy and no one is offended. except for those that practice the dark arts and/or have diabetes. -
I remember when the Spurs won the 99 NBA Championship, a season cut short by player lockout. Only a 60 game season I think. There was an asterix next to it for a long while until the Spurs won again I think 6 years later. Ultimately became one of the best teams of this century so far. I'd go all out for this year's flag, and use it as a launching pad to a strong decade. I mentioned in another thread that I can see one of Richmond Collingwood West Coat and GWS falling down and missing finals this year, may well end up being 2-3 of them. This year's flag is up for the taking. It may well be the easiest AND hardest flag you could win.

The fact our match was a full 21 minutes shorter than last year's average is all the more concerning. By last year's timing, we built up a 42 point lead by the end of the 1st, and lost it by the start of the 4th. Carlton may well have won by 5-6 goals on Sunday if we were playing full quarters. A 70 point turnaround.

Getting Tickets to the Footy When Crowds Return
praha replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wonder how many Melbourne will allocate to AFL members given we have the smallest number of AFL members in the league and most are club or MCC members. As a Gold AFL Member you'd think there would be some priority there in line with those club members that have a guaranteed GF ticket. -
The game was worse.

Depends. How good was the funeral?

Petracca River and Fritta. Wowweeee. Watching with Carlton supporters. Banking on a Carlton comeback. 'cause Melbourne.

Caro said up to half the seats in Gabba would be available for fans. Then said only 1000 would be allowed in. Same for GWS. AFL, NSW and QLD have all denied this. Provided there isn't a second wave I'm predicting crowds at games in 4 weeks. That rules out Pies and Tigers from going to WA hub. Just our luck we'll be shipped off to WA just as fans are allowed in.
-
So it's BAU for GWS then.
-
if in 4 weeks time there is little to no community transmission following mass protests then governments will need to start reassessing current strategy. including easing rules around large gatherings. im still confident tbh that we'll see a live match this year at some point. at worst it'll be 1/3 of tickets available (1 person every three seats).

society isn't declining because of late stage capitalism. Market economies are perhaps at historically their strongest ever (with more slowly transitioning out of mass poverty every day). let's not give a free pass to the degeneration public discourse; the obscene nature modern "progressive" politics; and the amplification of fractured nationalism. I don't think any of those are a result of capitaliam. Interesting you would be critical of capitalism, though, given Melbourne's biggest problem over the past 5 decades has arguably been both its lack of market competitiveness and its inept business tact. Decades of handouts and -- surprise surprise -- we're still garbage. How shockingly dense and weirdly confident the club was to ditch a known (and legal) revenue generator, all for the sake of some feel good "woke" PR. But hey I guess our "morality" is in check. Right alongside our $10 million debt and few (strong) assets to ride the bump.

How much pain does alcohol cause? shall we ditch Furphy as well? "Poker machines account for over 80% of problem gamblers" But how many gamblers have a "problem"?
-
how depressing. we are stuck in that rough patch between not having enough money to invest/save/grow, and not having enough investment/savings/growth to bring in enough money. The Circle of Doom.

who gives a [censored]? you could say this about quite literally any vice. get woke go broke.
