WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
DV8 replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
We could do much worse with Harry in rednblue, just like we have done with Lewy. But I doubt Harry would want a part time playing gig. -
infuriating. idiots. The afl do not deserve to be running Our game. They're literally running it into the dirt.
-
I think you might be right D11. Lewis was great the other night. It'll be interesting to see how he goes in Finals this year. If he raises to the occasion.
-
Its time to try out Weide with TMc.... and Hogan out, rested. Bring Hogan back into the mid rotations, on his return... He should be high half-forward, and midfielder, IMO. not deep forward.
-
Spargo I think is a bit tired... and the missed tackles are partly physical strength, and also partly mental tiredness (intensity). I agree we should rest Spargo for 2 matches; I'd play him at Casey on a limited time scenario off interchange for the two weeks. Prior to bringing him back in. Play Kent with both Garlett, but both from interchange. While Spargo recoups. We'll need Spargo in September... a little point guard. Garlett just does not commit to full on tacklers; he doesn't want to get hit hard; and avoids this. JKH is a fully committed player and after replay,,, I was very happy with him. A breath of fresh air. Frost is improving isn't he... but he needs to stay composed in his 'minds-eye', when he has the footy in hand. He has a huge upside if he gain control over his racing mind. (Russel 'rhino' Richards Mk11) agree with your comparison Re jSmith and Hunt. Too soon IMO for AVB. Couple more games with Casey, at least, for me.

actually I was thinking Fine'y far right E'dy far left Robbo in the middle ?

2 knee reco's already, in under 22 yrs. Lets not put all our eggs in that basket, justin case. We need another stop-gap key back. No saying what will be for Petty, Keilty, or Lever for that mater. -

He's a bit similar to Hunt, taking off fast and furious, and leaving their heads back in defence. composure required, bigtime. -

2017 - Jack Higgins 2018 - ???? ? oh, you mean May? -
12 months from operation.
-
here we go again, there's that word again.
-
Premature ht. We only have Oli & Max at the moment, and the others are hit and miss. not stars yet. Brayshaw looks promising, but lets wait 12 months to see if his form continues.

triumvirate ? like these ? or these or perhaps these

I'm a Barassi theorist. I think the players can play where they're put. I think Smith is struggling with the inexperienced Defence, just as OMc is. So Smith is making some simple ball handling errors which we can't afford in our defence. But I think he will be more composed from the wing, if they allowed him the role. But my preference would be to drop Smith for Hannan. Hannan from a wing, or as a part of our defence. I still want Pedo in the midfield as well. Its exciting that we do have more players nowadays worthy of calling up. It gives us many options to change things up. Monde`. The current 22 is not up to not making any positional changes.
-
I'm not fussed Re Baker debut. We have a few players who can do the role I mentioned. Hannan, Pedo,... but I want our wingers to support our backs more. Pedo showed last year he can be a dangerous player between the Arcs. This is where I want him to play now, while Jesse is playing sore. Or, switch Jesse and Pedo. With Hogan on the wing. Out of the F50, playing midfield role, and dropping back helping our defenders. I think he needs a rest from wrestling the tall defenders, and them jumping into his back. Either that or drop him altogether, for a rest It was interesting to learn he had the flu or similar. That could explain a bit of poor form on the weekend, and would certainly exaggerate his sore spots.
-
I agree, Frost is improving. He's yet to start to believe in his kicking,,, but its getting better... but his anxiety hurts his decision making, and also rushes his decisions and dulls his awareness. This is his main area to address IMO. his anxt. needs to get on-top of it. It holds him back. Pedo can play wing, his kicking is good enough for the role. He reads the play well enough, and the position keeps him close enough to be able to lend a hand to our defence,,, by dropping back. I agree, I prefer Frost play on the opposition tall defender, as long as Pedo can drop in to lend a hand. And maintaining the two young defenders in position... Oscar & Frost. We can also maintain our Forward structure this way.
-
I still reckon we can play Frost as a tall winger. Or Pedo. But I like,,,,, in our current setup, a winger who can roll back to defence to chop-out our kids, back there. to go back as intercept. Pedo is actually a beautiful kick, so would be more dangerous kicking into out F50. He could easily take his role into the ruck from the wing position, as Gawn rests forward.

I think he's mentally tired... is mature, but maybe needs 2 weeks off at Casey to refresh limited time on-field... and re-find the intensity he started with. But his smarts are there for all to see. He will be needed in finals. The other thought is to play jSmith off the wing, with Pedo play key back.
-
Its time to get some reassurance back into the defence... OMc is suffering from our leaking thru the corridor, lack of defensive pressure thru half-forward and center-lines. So OMc needs assistance. With Hibberd out and Jetta sore, we need another sweeper. I think Hannan off the wing or as small defender, along with Fritz. The other is Baker??? to play this role, but Hannan is a better ball user. Baker is a bit suss Re disposal,,, but is a good runner/line_breaker? .

Sometimes its better to start off positionally, to see the oppositions strategy, prior to a typical starting setup. The Cows got off to a flier, but it showed we started to steady & build momentum, around the 20 minute mark of the 1st Qtr. We can sometimes throw-off planned tactics and tags, this way... It also exposes others in our lineup to more responsibility in the middle. nothing is wasted. all is an investment. What if we start as expected in a Final, and our stars get checked closely. And we get smashed for 2 Qtrs, where, do we go from that point? The game could be over by halftime. We're learning to fight back from adversity, with what is happening,,,, even IF its a self imposed early sanction. . fraught with danger.... but it exposes us to have to show resilience.... practice almost. nothing is wasted.
-
On the other hand, none get hurt playing and it freshens them up... form? v fitness/health. Pedo and Weide will be fit, and ready and waiting. After a few games hard at it, a week off will probably do more good for AVB. He'll get his chance, but not ready yet; for the big step-up in intensity. imo.
-
Time for Pedo to play back. Smith will be good, i''m sure, but isn't ready to be a main wheel in defence. The defence needs a better structure to support OMc. I have a feeling Hannan could help, either as a small intercept defender, or from the wing, pushing toward back 50. Another Fritz type defensive role, if you like.
-
Hogan IMO is Not your typical tall forward. He doesn't have a big leap or reach. So he's not a deep forward. He is getting crashed when playing deep, with the ball being kicked on his head. He is more your mobile CHF who does his best when moving around the field, a bit like Schwarta. Weide will be your deep forward. TMc is also a CHF, who rolls back with the ball. Jesse needs a rest, before its too late to give him that. I think Hogan needs 2 weeks off to unload. Pedo is ready and waiting, can do 3 major roles. Weide is waiting. Hannan, IMO, could play intercept defender.

Players are not born with air tanks, they grow them, Via hard work, hard running, hard training. It's time Petracca started to work harder in all areas. And then he CAN play the midfield... as can Hogan.
