This probably belongs in the Stats File thread, but great find.

Not only are we 1 at defending clearance, we're 2 at attacking from clearance. So, whilst our raw clearance winning numbers are down, we make the most of them without being punished the other way.

We're not being outscored in the stoppage game whilst having spent the first 7 weeks of the year working hard on our turnover game (which needs more work, given we're still only 11th for scoring from intercept which puts us behind all of the better sides in it and, weirdly enough, also behind North and Hawthorn).

The surprise is how highly the Dogs are ranked

Not the worst of ideas. If Windsor could hold a position at half back he could be a real rebounding weapon. On the other hand that's one less player delivering quality ball into the forward line

I like Windsor but he does have some JHunt vibes with his disposal. He is a better decision maker but his kicking can be ordinary

Stewart would play on Turner or JVR in this scenario

Goodwin would have played Melksham on Stewart had he been available.  Might surprise with a defensive role from mcadam if he's capable of that.  Stewart would be troubled by McAdam

Maybe the plan was to try Disco for a game and then play on Stewart?

  4. The Cats will play keepings off. Take it to the bank. The key for us is to stop that and put pressure on the ball carrier. They switch at every opportunity and try to control tempo. We have to cover the ground well to contain them

The Richmond game was scrappy and we turned the ball over a lot but the Cats will be a different stye of game

One thing Goodwin is good at is ensuring that the first halves of games are a scrap and an arm wrestle. He likes to stay in games for long periods before grinding out wins.

Geelong are totally beatable and we will have to play well to do it. A number of players need to lift but most of all our midfield.

Our backline this year has been awesome and deserve a huge amount of credit for keeping us on track while our mids have gone missing

I think you've got to do something but I'm not sure how you enforce it.

I was asking a rhetorical question but it seems that it is the way we are heading.

Yes it would be ridiculous enforcing it (in particular with 4 umpires and different interpretations) but what's new with the AFL?

Perhaps consideration should be given to how 'hard' players attack the ball? It's been a foundation of our game but they seem to want to eliminate contact.

We were always taught to 'go in hard you won't get hurt' but maybe that has to change.

Its already become like basketball which I hate .....

Yze will also put up a good tactical game, looking to exploit known vulnerabilities.

We just need to focus on responding to the Lions games.

Let me outline Yze's game plan.

    1. Don't kick it high into the Richmond fwd line

    2. Chip the ball into the fwd line. Dirty balls work well against the Dees.

    3. Avoid May and Lever

    4. Pressure them relentlessly and watch them crumble

    5. Avoid May and Lever

    6. Jump into Gawn's back at every single opportunity. Hold him scragg him - he never gets a free so don't worry

    7. Shake Olivers hand really hard at the start of the game. Give him lots of high fives

    8. Avoid May and Lever.

9 Above all and if you have forgotten everything else, avoid May and Lever

We must play Fullerton. Max and JvR as our ruck combo can’t possibly see out the season.

Furthermore, playing backup ruck is hindering JvR’s development as a key forward IMO.

We have just had a 13 day break and will then have a 10 day break. Now is not the time to give Max a chop out.

We drafted him but he never crossed to Victoria from his native S.A.

Played for Adelaide and was then traded to Sydney where he didn't play a single game.

We also drafted Darren Jarman but he refused to come and stayed in Adelaide before going to the Hawks a year later.

    Absolute draft tampering

  9. Two of the most important recruits for Melbourne were Bernie Vince and Jordan Lewis

They were at a time when Melb was crud for years and no gun player wanted to come near the club

We were in a critical part of our building phase with numerous young players and no one with Premiership experience on the field. Vince was a two time B&F winner and a great teacher

In fact there were very few at the club with any Premiership experience until Roos came along. No one knew how to win.

And Lewis, with 4 Premierships was possibly the most important because of his stature in the game. Players hung off every word he said and followed has advice.

These two with Roos (and Peter Jackson) rescued the MFC.

    I will be forever grateful.

Its infuriating to watch as we appeared helpless, chasing tails. The lesson for Brisbane is clear, you need to keep the ball in motion, both with ball in hand and defensively. If you give them the uncontested game, they are unstoppable. Its how Pies beat them this year and in the GF.

They are also really good with ball in motion, but it can be defeated by intense pressure on the ball.

I dont know if anybody has access to the pressure index, but i'd be surprised if we were anything over 170. Whereas the Lions were probably 190-200+ for most of the game.

Infuriating is one word. Dumb is another. They played the same way against us over the last 4 games. 3 losses for us and a 1 pt win.

Poor teams like Hawthorn can't keep it up for 4 qtrs but good sides can.

We have no answer for the chip and give game style when good sides do it. Watching it live it is blindingly obvious what their tactics are. Our inability to combat it was appalling

Clarry at half back and even first gamer Kolt in the middle at one stage? What the hell?

Raynor playing like a superstar. Brisbane blocking our mids to give Neale a clean run ever stoppage.

Hopeless coaching and leadership last night.

I actually don’t think we have a game style that can beat Brisbane. They sliced through us like they did last year at the MCG but this time they went on with it. We barely adjusted to close down space and they ran us off our legs with all those uncontested marks.

If we play them in the finals, Goodwin will need to be completely prepared for this as this uncontested game will torch us again.

We simply let them chip their way through our defence. It was pathetic. They refused to kick to may or lever,

They had 40 more marks,  30 more tackles and 50 uncontested possessions.

It's exactly how they have played against us the last 3 times.  Our coaching staff were clueless. Gawn tried hard but was useless,  hitting the ball all night to Brisbane players

Out fwds aside from Chandler was disgraceful

    embarrassing Performance

  12. Collingwood's slingshot style also meant a defence has less time to set up. They threw numbers at the contest and used handball plus short sharp kicks to disrupt defences. They're not being allowed to do that so much this year.

and presumably that'll be the only change, kolt 4 koz?

    woey 2.0 remains the sub

if woewodin comes in on the last again he can get a full game at casey on the weekend proper

I thought Woey came back to play at a Casey scratch match last week? So he has had playing minutes I believe
