Oops ... Freudian slip. Pity about Bater missing out too ... a bit of politics in team selection?

As most of you would be aware, the VFL has a bye this weekend as there is a State match on against the WAFL in Northam, WA. The Scorpions will be represented by only one player, skipper Evan Panozza. Captain of the WA team is Paul Johnson and I guess we'll know if the WAFL team is serious or not if they line him up at full back. Former Demon Matthew Bate was in the squad but missed the final cut. Casey sits in second place on the ladder and when play resumes next week, it will play a home match against Box Hill in an ABC televised game.

I'm not sure that this is correct. At the same point in each of their respective coaching careers (six games into season 2) their records were similar although Bailey already had a wooden spoon to his credit and was on his way to a 1-12 record before he allegedly started tanking. I think you'll find that his list was more experienced in terms of average games played in 2008/9 as well.Bailey didn't start "achieving more" until his third season as coach when the team won 8½ games but (rightly or wrongly) many around here aren't even prepared to afford Neeld the opportunity to have a third season at the helm. As has been pointed out above, when Neeld's comments are taken in context he's not making excuses. He's stating a fact - i.e. that this week's team averages around 50 games per player experience. The fact that this is a disadvantage in the modern game is fairly obvious to most but will not really assist against Gold Coast which has similar numbers.

Not over yet 98 - 100 after a goal to Dawes.
-
Nine point lead to the home side - trouble.
-
Port back in front by 2 points - have kicked 7 for the quarter.
-
Lead down to four points!
-
Ten points in it. - great finish coming up.
-
Last two goals to Casey who now lead 83 - 72. Jeez, the game has lifted a notch or two since 3/4 time!
-
Port coming home with a wet sail to hit the front by a point. Where did this come from?
-
How's Scully going now?
-
Three quarter time: Casey 10.11.71 to Port 7.5.47 Leading possessions: Magner 25 Toumpas 23 Couch 21 Gent 20
-
Lead back down to 3 goals: 65 - 47.
-
Scorps by 23 points. They seem to have settled a bit and are weathering the storm. It helps to have some big blokes who can take contested grabs like Dawes and Fitzpatrick.
-
Casey get it back through Jack - 16 points difference again.
-
A Blease clanger gives away a 50 and Port get the margin back down to 10 points playing some pressure football.
-
Casey now lead by just 10 points as Port mount a counterattack early in the third.
