  1. i was thinking the EXACT same thing.

Hudgton is injured, meaning they have a short bench. They are making huge errors and plyaing poor footy.

The lions cant do a thing wrong.

    Couldnt agree more with you!

Another contrast to last week was the free kick count. At one stage it was 12-5 in Brisbane's favour.

  2. First kick:

    ..........................................

    First handball:

    ..........................................

    First free received:

    ..........................................

    First free given away:

    ..........................................

    First goal:

    ..........................................

  3. I can't be bothered reading all this crap but the fact that North are about to beat Freo will mean all NAB cup semi-finalists are from the bottom half of the eight. Last year's premiers got thrashed by Essendon on their home ground yesterday. The first game is 4 weeks away.

    Need anyone say more!!

In other words there's no use discussing the practice matches because they're junk!

  4. I've been told that the bloke Guy Martyn is actually Mick Martyn's cousin. And I think Mick is the good looking one.

Anyone going to the practice match tonight?

I'd be interested to know if Michael Newton and Isaac Weetra play and, if so, how they went.

  5. You can't compare gambling to drug- taking. For one, drugs are illegal, no matter who you are.

But regardless, the rule are there for a reason, and the AFL is absolutely right to forbid this sort of gambling. Ward was silly to get involved, and worse, put a dent in the club's reputation.

They said on the 9 news that Ward had apologised to the playing group this morning. Apparently didn't go to the family day though.

  6. With the season fast approaching, the Herald Sun seems to have ramped up its beefcake section and has a feature today with Nathan Buckley, Paul Licuria and Brodie Holland all showing off their muscled up torsos.

The funny thing is that I thought this year's go was all about producing slender, light bodies with the aim of better handling the extra speed of the game. It certainly appears to be the case at Melbourne where BB has them all trimmed down and ready for a more running type of game.

    Am I missing something?

No you're not missing a thing.

I've noticed that every year it's a ritual with Collingwood. We see them all built up at this stage and they tell us what a big year they are about to have. There is no necessary corelation between having big bodies and having an adequate preparation for a long football season. Not the way the game is played these days.

  7. Aaron Davey is a prime example of how an unstable administration with poor financial nous can directly effect on field results. He was picked up by North Melboure's football department and was touted as a player of no little promise. The administration then told the football department that they could not have any rookies the following year. Davey was squeezed out and became a Melbourne player.

I am really worried about North Melbourne; Carlton will be OK. If there is a club that should be associated with the F word, for a great many reasons, it is North Melbourne.

Don't worry about them. They're going to end up on the Gold Coast and they'll probably get very strong there.

  8. Spot on Bob.

The last thing we need at this stage in our team's development is one of our better players/leaders being burdened with all that extra pressure.

    Why rock the boat now?

BTW isn't the captaincy something they announce at the family day?

    Go Dees

Neitz is certain to be skipper this year but there's a lot of high praise for young Brock there. Hopefully, he will continue to go from strength to strength and take his mate Colin up with him.

  9. And by the way, what's with this joined late '05' and have 56 posts? Get real.

It may have been explained before but refresh my memory.

It means you joined this board in late '05 and posted 56 times at the time.

(the message board changed over from aimoo boards to invision at around that time)

  10. Guys,

Appears 11th is hard for us, most of our guys are doing other things, the St kilda festival is on apparently, I am keen, but its getting harder.

As much as I am keen I think we have to leave it until October.

I will scout once more today and Saturday and finalise an answer asap to make sure that if it is possible, it can be done - cheers

If the game's off, then I have a solution to the problem here.

The thing is that you blokes have your sights set too low.

I'm looking for about ten or so more blokes who are willing to volunteer to represent Australia to take on the England XI in the next Commonwealth Bank One Dayer. I'll be seeking special leave from the ACCB to field the side in order to give the series a bit of interest.

    Anyone game to volunteer?

  11. I have wondered for over 40 years what had happened to Glen Swann, mainly because I saw him play just one game but it was one of the most impressive I have ever seen (was it his debut?). Have asked around and checked the web over the years but no luck - great to see discussion of him and others on this message board.

As David Cordner was described previously, Swann was also a "blue blood blonder hair 6'4" adonis", whom I saw play at the MCG in 1973 and boot 8 goals. Moreover, I recall a number of them being torpedoes from 60-70 yards from near the boundary. Quite tall for those days and wonderfully fast and agile and a strong mark plus a monster kick. I assumed he must have gone off to the bush because there seemed no limit to his potential but perhaps he did just fizzle out.

Did anyone else witness his golden day at the 'G and those torps?

Welcome bigbob and I remember Swann as well but it was about 33 years ago not 40 when he made his debut. Very tall and the opposition worked him out very quickly so he became ineffective very quickly.

Another flash in the pan from about 40 years ago was Ed Burston who kicked six goals one week and was dropped the next.

  12. A good report but not a very positive one.

Freak, your problem is that your glass is half empty. There were plenty of things in the article that were cautiously optimistic and I'd rather read honest opinions than rose coloured ones anyway.
