  1. heard from melbournefc...

who is worried this date may clash with a tennis fixtue at rod laver arena... <_<

wouldn't help with parking either...

It's all been sorted out. I just sent an email to Tennis Australia and they're cancelling the final of the Australian Open to avoid the clash and the inconvenience to commuters.

Very gentlemanly of them too!

  2. Pick 17 – Rhys Healey

    Height: 186cm

    Recruited From: Oakleigh Chargers

    Player Type: Inside Midfielder

“Midfielder with elite endurance and pace, good ball winner and goal kicking midfielder. Wins the ball on the inside and out and adds to our midfield stoppage work. Bendigo Pioneers' chief ball winner.” Barry Prendergast

Something wrong with this quote. Healey's a kpp from Bendigo.

  3. I have a conspracy theory about all this.

After we lost out on Chris Judd at the end of last year, we decided to get even with Carlton by planting Mark Riley there as an assistant coach. He managed to convince them to go after Matthew Warnock and offer him a massive contract - $400k a year for 4 years for a bloke whose played 21 games in the last 3 is massive. Then they went after CJ - 2 years for a 5 year 31 gamer is just about unheard of isn't it?

Even the HUN joined in the conspiracy by writing up today's article giving Johnson the same prominence it would normally reserve for one of the game's stars instead of a bloke who managed only half of the maximum games possible in a season with the bottom side. Among the 400 wasted words in the article was this absolute pearler of a line that just about sums up CJ's value as a footbaler - "The Blues made a play for the son of former Demons star Alan in the trade period, offering a late pick above 100 in a bargain-basement bid." :P:P:P

And have we all noticed that Carlton now has an obsession with players who have the initials CJ?

Courtney Johns and Corey Jones are the next targets.

    Mark my words!

  4. Carroll is in the box seat. MFC still have to pay him his 2009 salary unless there is breach of contract.

Do you reckon Carroll hasn't breached the contract?

Of course he has. The question is not whether he breached the contract but whether the breaches he has committed are sufficiently serious as to enable the aggrieved party (i.e. the MFC) to terminate the agreement. There is an arguable case that they are and that the club would win a court battle but the AFLPA is supporting Carroll. The argy bargy taking place at the moment is happening so that the parties can arrive at an agreement that would avoid them having to pay for expensive lawyers to prove their respective cases.

  5. My friends and I are already referring to it as "Jihad" stadium. Apparently in some parts of Southern Cross Station (lifts etc) there are still references to "Colonial Stadium" to this day...

Good one, it'll be a case of the G or the Jihad.

Also, couldn't help raise a chuckle about the fact that the AFL and Ian Collins are having a bit of a stoush about fees on beverage sales at the Jihad. I wonder if the sponsors approve of the consumption of all that alcohol on the premises?

  6. Just get some speed in the midfield. That's the priority!

Also if McKernan turns out to be half as good as his brother was in his North days, then we could be onto something.

The let-down of trade week will be offset by a great draft for the MFC. I reckon we'll be get a gem at pick 17!

The McKernan brothers are very much alike but remember, they're playing in entirely different eras. The younger version is unlike his older brother in that he's unlikely to play in the ruck. I do like the prospect of him as a marking tall but would he be a available at 17?

  7. THE TRADING CHRONICLES – DAY TWO

A BRAND NEW WORLD OUT THERE by the Oracle

Brad Green who has yet to sign a new deal with the club and is being closely eyed by Collingwood. Hawthorn, Sydney and Port Adelaide have also sounded expressed an interest while the club is saying that it is hopeful of re-signing him

    Brad Green at Collingwood!

Now that would be a brand new world. But what would we get for him?

  8. So the target of getting one training base is not going to happen. Is there room in the existing Grandstand for our Footy Department to move in.

There's lots of accommodation out there for our Footy Department to move into but there's only one problem - most of the rooms are full of methane gas.

  9. Dog [censored]! :o

Rubbish. Farren Ray is the perfect player for us as he would fit in nicely with our game plan which, as far as I can work it out, involves hoping and praying that we get the centre clearance, promptly spraying it laterally in the direction of the wing where the players have fanned out to pick up the easy ball and then miskick it so that it ends up inside the scrimmage of players in the middle.

  10. Look I think Sam Mitchell shows that if you've got elite endurance, a football brain and quick hands there's a place in today's game, Valenti just doesn't excel in these areas and that magnifies his limitations - where as someone like Mitchell who does excel is captain of one of the GF teams!

Problem with Vanderlay is that he's gone prematurely bald which makes him look a lot slower than he really is - a bit like Ablett. He is a touch taller than Valenti according to the AFL Prospectus (if you can trust that source).

  11. Unless one is blessed with 20/20 foresight..he cant possibly KNOW !!

its his opinion..entitled to it.. but to "state" is a bit overly encompassing !!

With a good preseason.. and mentoring he may well turn into a really decent KPP,up forward . . or he may not . . and so join the rest of the list !! :)

One thing to add..is that its much easier to play a game with out a winning ruck ( as you can rove to the opposition ) than it is without decent forwards !!

Nicknat had an ordinary one yesetrday in the WAFL prelim final but his team is in the grannie against Subiaco - Daniel Rich's team.

Does anyone know if they telecast the game here on Foxtel?

  12. The AGM is likely to be held in mid/late December. I think the year ends officially at the end of October and the financial accounts need to be completed (and audited) before the AGM is held.

I expect that a letter will be sent to members in November advising of the AGM's date and also giving details of how to vote on the Board members who will be up for re-election etc. All the Board members who joined in June will be up for re-election.

I would like the club to consider the reintroduction of the Members Information Night which used to pack them in at the Camberwell Town Hall.

The reason these were discontinued was the cost but I reckon if they charged $15:00 per person towards the debt demolition (plus additional donation - voluntary), you won't hear too many complaints.

The club could also sell membership and merchandise on the night, introduce new players, farewell the old and generally deal with a lot of the football business that needn't be gone over at the subsequent AGM.
