  1. If there wasn't keepers would you be interested in playing out the season anyway? If we didn't have a keeper league I doubt I would even log in again, and the same could be said for most who have dropped out of contention. Meaning as the season moves on the only people trading are those who think they're a chance. It creates interest. At least now you can, like me, participate in the game of it. And you can potentially get some value from your players if they have a good back end to the season. In my view the keeper league is not unfair at all, we all started from the same spot. It's just a slightly longer term view of the same game. If you're still not convinced, ask yourself this: if you had a good keeper position would you still be claiming if is unfair and threatening to leave? If you can honestly say yes then I'm okay with that. I'm sure we can find another who would jump at the chance to take over your list for next year.
  2. I don't think your team is as bad as you think. Leuenberger, Goddard, Griffin & shulz are absolute keepers and give you good balance across all positions. Your next tier of players packaged with one of the above would upgrade that players to a very good player. On top of that, there will be some quality players available in the priority picks and first round. You'll likely have 2 picks before the top half of the ladder have 1. Take up the challenge RR, don't leave just because it isn't going your way.
  3. More thought than you care to think about has been put into the league RR. And a lot of effort on my part to administer the league. Not only that but the keeper concept was brought up last year, then several times this year per and post draft. At the time i tested the water with everyone and the idea was generally well received. If you're doing poorly this year, and you couldn't be in as dire a situation as JLH, then like JLH trade yourself into a good keeper position for next year. Smart trading and the said priority picks will put you in a strong position. This is the second or third time someone has threatened to leave and that's a bit sad. If you don't like how I'm running the comp then leave(I'd rather you didn't). Threatening to leave will just brings it down for everyone else. I really rate the keeper concept, for lots of reasons already discussed, let's focus on those positives.
  4. I have read a lot of opinions here about keeper leagues/relegation, so I want to be clear about a few things in case there is any confusion about what is going on. Nothing is changing from how I set it all up at the start of the season, there will not be any religation and we are keeping 4 players from this year to go to next year. This is not to say I wont change it for next year but I think it is important that I remain consistant throughout the season as mid-season rule changes may disadvantage some. Also mentioned from time to time is the always hot topic of priority picks. On this I will say that priority picks in some form will exist for next year as I hinted at at the start of the year, but I haven't fleshed out the details. It's a difficult one because I am doing really poorly this year and so there is a confilct of interest. I have some ideas but ultimately I think it's best to leave it until at least the end of the year, or the weeks leading up to the draft next year. Then as a group we can all work out what is fair. As for the perceived problems of the keeper league (trading controversies), I don't see it as a problem so long as both teams involved in the trade can improve their relative positions in regards to their strategies. Last week's JLH/WCN trade didn't represent value for JLH at first and was correctly vetoed. The resulting trade thereafter (Pendlebury for Murphy/Kennedy) did represent value. The system worked. The reality of the keeper system is that if you want to win a premiership you have to be smart about the way you trade, and you have to be open to the idea of trading long term players for short term success.
  5. 4, chosen at the start of next season before the draft.
  6. Deals like this were always likely, the question is; Does the keeper league, including trades like this, add to or detract from the enjoyment of the game? Personally I like it for a few reasons: 1. Injured players retain value. Murphy has no value for this year. 2. Promotes trading. 3. Keeps mugs like me interested because it is in my interest to position my team well for next year by upgrading my keepers. On the flip side it does place those who are prepared to trade aggresively at an advantage over those who perhaps are not so much. Which essentially means more work is required to get yourself a win. Also it creates a situation where some teams are just completely uncompetative, but then generally speaking only uncompetative teams will choose to trade away their players as I tried to. I think as a rcourtesy in the future; if you're out to trade yourself into a good keeper position then you should make public your intention to do so. That way you guarantee yourself the best trade and you give every other team the opportunity to make better offers.
  7. If you look at his list I think you could understand his thinking, he has some decent centers and nothing else. By trading pendles he is aiming to get 2 keepers for 1 and pick up a forward (fodder is useless to him at this stage). If you're bullish about Kennedy (as I am) and think Ebert can keep it up (which I doubt) then the trade is fair enough. I don't agree with it myself, but I think it is not as clear cut as you are suggesting MM. And for what it's worth I can garuantee you their motivations are genuine. My only criticism of JLH from my point of view is that he has been lazy: If he genuinely wants to trade pendles for the best value available he should do more to shop him around. And he should look further than the guy sitting next to him while watching the footy. But then perhaps the rest of the league should be more proactive in offering trades for pendles.
  8. I'm thinking long term, and therefore it's a mutually beneficial trade. My team is shite and Murphy is the premier keeper target being both injured and a top 3 player in the league. As I said when they joined; I know them cos I go to the footy with them (and Dappa) they have wanted to join since I told them about it last year. I can guarantee my trade with WCN is genuine (after 3 days of back and forth). I can't guarantee the JLH trade is genuine because I only found out about it this morning. Knowing JLH as I do I am equally confident it wasn't dodgy as I am surprised he would agree to it.
  9. Who's to say the norm smith league is the better league. I don't support a relegation system, and not just because i'm in line for relegation. But if we reach a consensus I'll concede.
  10. Integrity Donation to the club made. I hope they put the sponser-less jumper on sale.
  11. I personally like the concept, I have some ideas in mind, including something similar to this. We'll see how the year pans out first.
  12. I can't work it out myself. But if you look at the settings it looks like this: Score: 2 %: 1 Kicks:2 Handballs:2 Marks:2 Hitouts:2 Tackles:2 Frees differential: 2 The projected calculation seems to ignore % altogether, it only ever calculates it up to 14 , maybe deliberately? The odds can be a bit different from the projected score, it seems to include a bit more intelligence in it. Also I saws note there that these features are free until round 3, then there is a 'premium coach' upgrade which will allow these features to continue. A cash grab I guess.
  13. I think that's the toughest side Melbourne has put on the park for a long time.
  14. I just checked for ti on the site, it doesn't appear to be there. I guess it was removed.
  15. You have it correct that I am shorter odds than dappa. And that's really all that matters. Sensational work Robbo.
  16. I also put in an option this year to allow changes to your team lineup to be made on saturday morning. (obviously firday night players couldn't be added or removed) Some may deem this to be unfair, I guess you could look at how your friday night team played and then change your remaining players to suit a strategy. The advantage is that we don't have to worry too much about getting everything set in the usually hectic time between work on friday and the first game. A net gain in my view.
  17. Correct, Trade as many times as you want (ie. with another coach) Signing players from the rserves list is limited to 30. Also I am about to change the setting in regrds to seeing another team's lineup, its a new feature this year but it doesn't work as I thought it should.
  18. Waivers apply until tomorrow I think. Unlimited trading A total of 30 signings from the reserve list, if you can find 30 reserve listed players that can improve your list throughout the season then your biggest problem won't be reaching 30 too soon, it will be the quality of your already listed players.
  19. In case anyone here forgot, the draft is tonight @ 7:30. Jump online now!
