  2. I usually agree with your views, but you are really wrong about nibbler.

Take another look at his corridor passes against the cats two weeks ago in a pressure game. If Godfrey or Hopgood made kicks like that in their dreams they would wake up and apologise.

Exactly! Now that we’re a good team, Jones can “perhaps do us a favour and retire” FMD

the size of this crowd has nothing to do with how good the card was. Melbourne fans would have turned up no matter what. and this "Seeing Ronda, Jedrzejczyk, Mark Hunt, Robert Whittaker and the like is a big deal and should not be scoffed at." well yeah actually i do scoff at that for a first time event in the sporting capital of the world. i went to 110 in Sydney and saw Nogueira, Velasquez, Bisping, Wanderlei Silva. I went to 127 and saw Bj Penn, John Fitch, Pearson, Gustafsson. Fx2 i saw Alves, Kampmann, Benavitez, mighty mouse. i went to 156 in Vegas, Edgar, Aldo, Evans, Overeem, Woodley. even fight night 33 in Brissy i got to see Shogun! We got Roudy and not much else IMO. As soon as this card lost Condit and Lawler, it lost my interest. that doesn't mean it's not a success.

Didn't post here as I didn't attend the UFC in my own backyard as i thought the card was utter rubbish. Cannot believe that is the best the UFC could give the sporting capital of the world for its first event. I can only assume they thought they would pull a crowd no matter who was on the card. UFC is an awesome spectacle live, but this substandard card turned out to be just that in my opinion. Having said that I would have loved to have seen Roudy get smashed! And I need to mention Whittaker who had a big win. Compare this card to the next one, which is off its head!!!

yeah it was something else, and it never comes across as loud on TV as what it does when you are there, people were going nuts. Hunt started great in the last round but you are right, Big foot came back and it certainly wasn't a 10-8 round. having said that when the ref stopped the fight to take a look at big foot's cut, i thought Hunt was seconds away from finishing him. wouldn't be the only time i thought that in the fight though! good to hear about the title fight here, even though i think Etihad will suck as a UFC venue.

Havent checked back here for ages, and only just picked up your post. i agree with pretty much everything there, especially the GSP/Hendricks fight. clearly won by Hendricks. i think Anderson was probably just a bit bored, but he's been carrying on like that in the ring for a while now and it's been gradually getting worse. hopefully he's learnt a lesson. really looking forward to the rematch and think he will win easily. Just got home from Brisbane and i gotta say i wasn't overly excited about this card beforehand. my thoughts after the event is that i think i may witnessed the best heavyweight bout in UFC history. it was certainly the best fight i have seen live, we were buzzing all night after that. Also the "draw" decision was spot on in my opinion. great to see Shogun live and dish out a brutal KO, even though it was at the expense of Te Huna. The Hippo provided great protection for the canvas for three rounds, and kept in tact his record of not trying any submission attempt from the bottom. (i take the [censored] but he has 5 times the heart that i have) The Hulk just destroyed Pat Barry. one thing they didnt show on the telecast was when Barry tried to get up straight after being KO'D, and ran head first into the bottom of the cage. looked quite nasty. I like Pat Barry, but i'm not sure where he goes from here. he was mega [censored] at losing that. A few other really good fights on this card made it a great event, and i'm really glad i decided to go. Australia Vs Canada in TUF coming up, and hopefully we get another cracking card in the not too distant future.

for anyone who missed the FX Stann Vs Silva card, check it out, some of the best stand up i have ever seen in the main event. also a great fight between our very own kiwi Mark Hunt and Stefan Struve.

Just got back from Vegas after 156, which was a bit of a mixed card. first of all, the Mandalay Bay stadium only holds about 9,000 people so it was much smaller than Acer Arena, and as i expected the fans leave it very late to show up. Also, after the Edgar vs Aldo fight, about a quarter of the fans started leaving before they learned the result.......wtf? the night we got to Vegas we sat down for dinner with Anthony Pettis at the table right next to us, and Rashad Evans walking past with his crew having just come from a training session......not something we're used to seeing. the card itself; i got a real buzz out of seeing Yves Edwards even though he lost an average fight to a questionable decision. All the prelim fights were very entertaining, Tibau vs Dunham, Woodley smashing Hieron and a good match-up between Benavidez and McCall. when the main card started between John Fitch and Damien Maia, i wondered if the first fight would be a classic battle between two guys with great ground games, or a boring mess. it turned out to be the later. Overeem vs Silva.......wow. Not sure if it was just because i was present, but that looked like one of the more brutal KO's i have ever seen, and i never would have guessed it would be Overeem on the end of it. the most disappointing fight of the night (yes....including Maia and Fitch) was Nogueira Vs Evans for me. How Rashad Evans can train for months and put in such a weak and timid effort is beyond me. Aldo Vs Edgar was again a heartbreaker for Frankie. you could probably mount a case for either fighter but in my opinion Aldo has been anything but convincing since moving from WEC to UFC, and Frankie Edgar has been very unlucky in his past few fights. i really hope Edgar has one more crack at him as i think a loss for Aldo may not be far away. All in all i had an absolute blast in Vegas but i gotta say the atmosphere watching a card it Vegas was nowhere near as good as watching a card in Sydney, particularly the first one. Now if they would only start treating us like they do Canada........we would be getting a much better slice of the pie.

I went to the Lakers vs Hornets game from two nights ago. I'm not a lakers fan so I don't see them on the box all that much, but the other night they were very hot and cold. When the hornets rested the whole starting five, the lakers dominated, but when the hornets had their best team out there it was game on. I was very impressed with Kobe and his assists, he's almost too unselfish. As for the hornets, Anthony Davis......wow.

155 was pretty average card with an excellent main event. i have always though Cain Velasquez was too good a fighter to not get the title back at some stage, what i didn't realise was just how tough Dos Santos is. Velasquez looked for all money like he would end this fight early and he hit Dos Santos with some wicked shots, but just when you thought Dos Santos was finished, he just refused to go down. not only that, but he was also able to regain his composure and land a few big shots of his own later in the fight. full credit to Velasquez though, it was dominant performance, but i can't wait to see the next chapter from these two as there is not much between them. we have also had the final of the smashes and the Sots vs Pearson fight late last year really liked the Hector Lombard vs Palhares fight, and also Robert Whittaker vs Brad Scott. Very impressed with Whittaker, and hopefully he can make a real impact in the UFC. The other final between the two poms Fletcher and Parke was an absolute snoozefest. a while ago D.A you mentioned the words "Sots" and "glass jaw"...........if there was any doubt, i think it can now be put to bed. i actually thought he put a pretty good fight after getting rocked early, and looked well on top in the second round. his problem though, is that anytime he gets hit with anything reasonable, he goes down. inevitably he got hit again, went down, and she was all over from there. not sure where to from here for Sots..........enormous ability, much better on his feet with improved striking, but what happens if he gets hit? i'm off to the states in a week or so to see 156 which looks like a cracking card, and it will be interesting to see the difference between UFC Vegas and UFC Sydney. for a start i think we will probably be the only ones to attend the prelims! i'll return with report......
