  1. Yes, thankyou, I am aware it’s a forum. Come on mate, you don’t need to tell me how it is. I have to come close to holding the all time record in minutes spent on this forum. I read dozens of views I don’t agree with on a daily basis. The majority I just ignore because I don’t feel strongly enough to argue, or that my case isn’t strong enough, or that I just don’t know enough about the topic to comment, or I just can’t be bothered. I can cope with disagreement. I take pretty strong exception to people trying to temper the enjoyment of others though. I just don’t see any motive to do that other than sheer nastiness.
  2. Honestly, why post this? It’s obvious to anyone with eyes and probably those without that the Gold Coast aren’t very good. We know that. It would be fantastic to be basking over giving a quality side a flogging, but unfortunately we weren’t scheduled to play against a quality side. People are allowed to enjoy wins, even against poor sides, without the usual grinches chiming in and pissing on the parade. It’s almost like getting some actual enjoyment out of football physically pains some people.
  3. It absolutely staggers me that TMac could not be in people’s top 6. Must have been the all time worst 5.1 game.
  4. God the revisionism on here regarding Pedersen makes me laugh. He stood up last year as our first ruck and is to be thanked and commended for that. His efforts during that period were Herculean and he was fantastic. He also stood up a few times as key forward when Hogan was out. As a second ruck/forward, he is hopeless. He just hardly gets involved in the play at all. Honestly, the suggestion that he might replace Weid is laughable. Weid might not be quite at the level, but at least you know he’ll almost certainly improve. We know what we get with Pedersen. I don’t see the point. Anyway, whoever Viney replaces is going to be really stiff. Everybody in the side was at least decent, including Tyson. To me it has to be a like for like so it probably will be Tyson. I would be very reluctant to mess with our four tall strategy; it is working a treat at present and I think Weid is an important piece of the puzzle.
  5. I said it last week, but how good is it that Essendon are so crap? This time there’s no cry of WADA conspiracy, no “oh well, we only have half a team”, just good old fashioned being terrible when they thought they were going to be good. I am enjoying every minute of it.
  6. Without having seen the first three quarters, I see we had kicked more behinds than goals - is there a relationship between this and the high inside 50s? My logic being a behind keeps the ball in our half and gives the opposition the ball, meaning more players at our end of the ground, therefore more chances for it to travel in and out of our 50. Whereby a goal takes the ball away from our 50. It may be that the better scoring efficiency required to give a larger score margin may have actually resulted in a much lower i50 margin.
  7. I only saw the last quarter, so I thought I’d check who scored all the goals and see that TMac kicked FIVE and has barely had a mention in this thread. Funny the things that stick out to people. So exciting to see us bury a side. I think it reinforces my point about a thrashing requiring one of the sides to surrender though. The ease in which we scored in the one quarter I was able to see was scary, we were playing against witches hats.
  8. The bloke was probably trying to see through the red mist, having just been grabbed by the throat. It didn’t look to me to be a shot from someone relaxed and thinking through the shot. Any excuse to bag him though eh?

    Jumper 66?

The highest number ever worn by a Melbourne player was 67 in 2017, as sported by Jeff Garlett. https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2017/112020170527.html
  10. @Demons11: you must be new around here. We don’t try and look for reasons why the unpopular player might retain his spot and explore what the coaches see that we don’t. What we do here is conclude that the hopeless coach doesn’t know what he’s doing and the player must have compromising photos of said coach. Don’t you know that’s the only logical conclusion?
  11. These kind of threads always bring out the ignorant.
  12. Thought at the time that Weid would have marked that if he’d used his hands, although he might have also worn a head in the midriff instead. Just a small nitpick, though. Was great to see him pluck one at full stretch for his first goal.
  13. This is exactly the same as the Clarry thing a few years ago. You don’t know exactly what happened unless you were involved. It’s very possible the fall was unintentional as a result of the impact and shock of being punched in the throat. I’m happy to criticise our players to a point if they’ve clearly done something wrong (the Bugg incident last year for example), but if I’ll always give a Melbourne player benefit of the doubt if there’s room for it, and clearly there is in this case. I reckon starting a thread labelled “that dive” is very poor form and not in the spirit of supporting the club.
  14. Goodwin was asked today if he wished Oliver would kick it more and his answer was he doesn’t care so long as he keeps doing what he does on the inside. I agree with you that it would be great to see him use his pace and power through the middle a.bit and deliver some rockets down a forward’s throat, however he also has magical extraction skills, which really is a job for the handball. A higher kick count would require a different role, I expect.
  15. I feel for McCartin. The way the footy public crush these early picks with expectations and them flog them mercilessly with them disgusts me. He needs to be given time and patience, there’s no doubt about it. I don’t feel for the Saints fans though. Years of being kicked while down by other supporters has made me bitter and spiteful. I get a bit of a kick at seeing them seethe.
  16. BigFooty Aints supporter comment of the day: Well on todays exhibition the Paddy V Petracca has been settled once and for all - we should have picked Brayshaw! Eat a bag, Aints!
  17. In that gutting last quarter where the wheels totally fell off, St Kilda kicked 2.3 to our 3.0 to outscore us by a staggering -3 points. Oh, I totally get the angst now! Look I’m probably being flogish with the excessive sarcasm, but I truly think some perspective needs to be kept. In any game there is always two teams on the field and delivering a drubbing relies on the opposition requires the other team raising the white flag to a degree. As Melbourne supporters we should understand that. The opposition will score goals sometimes. They didn’t score heaps and they didn’t score them easily. It doesn’t necessarily mean we are weak or soft or anything like that, it just means things happened that can happen in professional football. To me it barely takes the edge off. It was an excellent win.
  18. It’s not “tempering” it though mate, a wail about not burying them is the only thing many have mentioned. To me it takes it from 100% to 98%. I just can’t understand the psychology of someone who comes on here and rages over it.
  19. Yeah I’ll be livid if we roll GC and Carlton by 40 points each to be 7-3. Positively fuming.
  20. Thought I saw a very solid win where the opposition never had so much as a sniff, but I’m glad the collective Demonland mood has reminded me that we lost. If we’re not the sookiest supporters in the game I’ll be shocked.
  21. Looks like there’s about 6 people in the stands. Pathetic.
  22. Hope @Joshis okay - not like him not to kick off the match day thread at 5am or some other ungodly hour that normal people are still asleep!
  23. This is just last week’s game against us. Worst first half ever before Hawthorn remember they’re not obliged to play at the Bummers level and power away. My favourite part about Essendon at the moment is they’ve got no excuse at all for being so shit, they just are. Love it.
  24. Body wasn’t up to AFL punishment if I remember rightly. Had talent but spent a lot of time injured. He’s also been umpiring for quite some time now (100 odd games), and has proved to be a quality umpire with a good feel for the game, as evidenced by the fact nobody even knew he was there until now. I think he shouldn’t just arbitrarily have his professionalism called in to question just because he’s umpiring an Aints game this week.
