  1. some video this guy will really be something one day
  2. Seek,...and ye shall find. Much discussion regarding Daw is already here rookies 09
  3. ya know what Joey...I'll second that lot.... pretty close to the mark for mine
  4. Im reaching for panadol as I write.. it seems to me that part and parcel of who we will get is somewhat dependant on what other clubs need and who they take at the various junctures. Currently trying to put my thoughts into the minds of other clubs... proving painful..lol Still think trade week will have a bearing on this as I have an inkling we wont have pick 18 at all.. but have a higher 20 but have landed a disgruntled decent player from elsewhere....but at a cost albeitly. Such is the nature of trading
  5. when I get challenged.. I answer teh question...if you are that highly strung or ptretentious yourslef that a few words can rattle you ...grow some skin..thats all I can suggest. You still .. now..I'll be as nice as I can...havent addressed the nature of your advocacy that stats rule.. many were earnt in junk time and as such are meaninglless.. Not just I have that view.. but others. You are of course entitled to yours. I just happen to disagree. Stats even at the best of times are a dangerous reliance. Um yes it was a busy 15 minutes.. I can only take it that you were watching an entirely different game as that was indeed when the Saints skipped away to their eventual margin. Still wee managed a few of our own too.. That in itslef is curious as it really ought have been a one way street then .. by all accounts..especially statiscally !! Mate i really couldnt care less to convince you or not.. I simply am stating as an observation, and my opinion, what I saw. Funny others seem to have seen it too.. not too many saw your game it would seem Seems when you are challenged...your afront is the challenge itself. If Im wrong I'll happily change my view of concede the better judgement. Where we will both agree however is there are indeed many miles yet to travel and its will be hard.
  6. oh....I do !!! see drafting thread rookies 09
  7. hell..id take Bell, McNamara and 18 for Boak OR Salopek !! ( oh...plus a pantek of Coopers Pale !! ) is win win for us ...lol now where's Chocco's email.........
  8. First things 1st..Sydney is not about to give up pick 5. They need it.....far more than we do. Secondly...this is not some sort of collection game. The guy with the most picks doenst win any prize. Drafts and their picks are in the end all about potential. Thats fine and good but you actually play football with skills and effort. Point being at some point your focus must switch from assembling a list to actually utilising/developing it. Somewhere along the road you must actually start concentrating on playing good footy and winning gamesand doing so primarily with those you have accumulated onto your list. Its not about continually ammassing the most highly rated prospectives, thats just a precursor. The real game is to play footbal. With picks 1 and 2 together with 18 and whomever we may get with the PSd we wil actuallyhave a very good list. We can aford to look to trade players/picks for an already blooded up and comer in the 22-24 yo range as opposed to more and more end-picks
  9. Then this would fall into play with any possible discussion with Port you would think. That or he'll just free up a possie. I would have thought we would still be entitled to something though.
  10. Oh give me a break.. of course the stats got a bit lopp sided.. they played by themselves for the last 15 mins.. you were there I take it.. Funny the scoreboard wasnt backing you up till half way through the las t quarter.. dont rely on stats..they'll bury you. e.g a side kicks 2.7 to a side that kicks 4 straight...apparently side one is doing better as they have had more entries and more scoring shots.. funny though as they are losing..lol.. understand !! Again..and why do you think that was because of positional changes and various sainters being left alone Jamar to goal square ..when we needed to maintain the rage at the bounce ?? I know that Jurrah is quite happy playing up and down...and look out any opposing coach who thinks they cannegate him doing that.. But as he was on fire in fornt of goals ..he was dragged from them.. He's just too potent when you cant afford to win. He we arrive at the reality of the day again...thats reality.. not stats and smoke and miirors etc.. Heres the almighty ( supposedly ) Saints, playing lowly Demons. They should have been mopping us al around the ground from teh get go.. They were having their bums smacked. Frawley was having Reiwoldt for breakfast. Kosi was looking like a fish out of water when he had his space denied. Milne was being out- Milned, he was frustrated and niggled. Gram wasnt doing too bad.Schneider was fairly quiet for the most part. Del Santo and Hayes were having to grind out a game. The Saints couldnt get much happening through the middle and were constantly denied much room in the 50... that was most of the game.. fastforward to the last quarter. Melbourne slowed down the rotations.. deliberately took pressure off of the Saints and arguably left one or two all but alone. Frawley was off Roo and he came alive again. Now if you really wanted to keep them quiet youd leave Frawley on Roo ..wouldnt you ?? Why was Jurrah taken from the field when he was.. he was fine.. fit as a fiddle and couldve run Uluru backwards..ffs he can run all day!! So why was he taken off ( after he goaled) Dont give me its regular.. because at melbourne it ISNT !!. If youare trying to seriously win do you let an outgoign champ a bit of fun and just let him kick it as far as he can for the hell of it ?? I doubt it.. And if you noticed we didnt man up man to man at teh fall of those kicks either...were you paying attention ?? I was Please dont try to tell me the Saints finally decided to change up a gear...all by themselves. The season was well and truly over for us.. The lads had made a point...look out in 010. The long and short of it is that we in many respects had no right to be where we were on the scoreboard through out the day given our respective positions on the ladder, but if ever there was an abject lesson in not taking too much to heart about stats and such it was that game.
  11. OK..lets give a bit more structure to the list of '08 we took: Watts, Blease , Strauss, Bennel, Jetta and Bail , Rookied Rhys McKenzie Hughes ( again ) and of course instant legend Jurrah in the PSD. How have they gone? Watts Jetta and Bennel together with Jurrah and Bail have debuted. Bails was forgettable but there were cicumstances. His is a different sort of project. He will need to step up a lot in pre season and next year in order to cement any value going forward. Watts.. played his cameo games for year.. had a little taste. watch for massive preseason and some solid outtings in 010. Jetta, seems slower off the mark to establish himslef than Bennel who is showing soe genuine ability. Both will benefit greatly from a good solid preseason. Both wil lbe fighting for senior game time now as others such as Blease and Strauss will be nipping at their heels if not striding past. I expect Blease to cone into the side proper during 010 in much the same fashion as grimes now has. Strauss will get games but he is only one of a number in that category. Very much a case of watch this space. Mckenzie is most likely to sufer from the inclusion of the likely Scully and Co. He may need to reivent himself here...or perish. Hughes loves ball tearing and busting lines.. Nothing wrong with that but he has a bit of the Jones about him in that the resultant disposal isnt allways to our advantage. Hughesy may be running out of time. Jurrah walks on water..enough said
  12. Why ? Not necessaily as youre picking for football proess not leadership potential per se.. It may well happen that way but I wouldnt want to narrow my vision to that parameter.
  13. PJ has a furher year.. and as was pointed out to me its the Rookie draft GC have the first five. We still have PSD1 ( I think..lol ) .It does however mean as you highlight there is danger if attempting to delist and rookie someone. Logic dictates if X amount are coming on board..then X must also go. We already know 3. There will be collateral damage but you have to prune in order to grow
  14. I will/would wait til eyeing the actual fixture for next year but it may well prove the shrewdest bet to make.. i.e Melbourne for the 8 A lazy C-note may well pay off your Christmas
  15. am very surprised his one hander didnt get a mention for mark of the week ...its better than Lingy's
  16. With Carlton's Coming being a case of premature celebration is more likely they'll be singing "thats why they call it the blues" at seasons end. MFC. New World Order: ..the Demon rises !!
  17. Ok..lets call it experimentation for you shall we ? We went in to that game without wanting.let alone needing a win. we had at least 7 genuine starters out of the side. We allowed 3 stalwarts the oportunity to have a bit of fun,i meanwhat else do you call letting wheats have some 'bombing' practice..and later in the game too. Throwing both he and wheels up forward for a look see . Call me a conspirator then as I simply think the number of posters we had that day was arguably exceptional for any game. Some strange moves.. Frawley off Rooo, whom he had held al day.. Jurrah either up the ground or offit entirely when looking dangerous. Cant have a ruck dominating so put him in the goal square. Slow the rotations down.. Leaving various Sainters all but unattended when they had been worn as coats all day Naah..youre right.. we didnt tank against the top team.. With only really 10-12 mins to go did they really get away from us...and do you think that was coincedental ? It does I agree beggar belief to think we should have even been in that position but watching it thats exactly how it looked. We lairised and were still in touch .. The Boys would have been pretty happy that they had taken it right up to these Chumps..I mean champs and that was as good as a win on the day considering what was at stake. strange but true
  18. bit early on Cheney and Tommy I would have thought.. Not really been here long enough to call yet. Would tend to agree with the first 3 though.
  19. pick 2 ?? No way.. pick 18 ? Hmm !! A lot of this depends on whether the Russian is actually on the move or not. If Jamar does go then Sandilands for 18 or similar to provide competitve rucking and feed Scully and Co whilst other rucking protoges come along might have some merit.
  20. An element for consideration ( for mine ) is the differing positions in the football team life cycle that the various teams find themselves at. This will vary according to ladder psition and more importantly the vision and backbone ( fortitude) of the teams with regard to rebuilding. We , MFC are well on our way to a successful rebuilding of our team. To some degree we can ease off selecting en mass and be more picky. Other teams just need to get masses of new bods into their fold and get restructuring. Those teams will be needing more draft picks... even if its 50, 60 or 70. We dont, not really. we will have 1 and 2 together with presently 18 and 34. I suspect wed be better off orchestrating some sort of trade for any of our peripheral players providing we can better 50..or even the 34 pick ( unlikley but possible ) If we can retain the 18 and have two others under 40 then we are doing well in my opinion. Id be happy enough to end up with 1, 2, 18, and say 28-30..a player swapped out...or 1, 2, and a quality player in trade whilst retaining something around 24-28 We will still have PSD1 and a rookie as options up the sleeve. What are we trying to achieve with our picks ? Obviously Scully and Co for 1 and 2. Pick 18 or there abouts...will get us a decent mid-tall utilitarian type who may have some KPP potential. Id like to see us find a young Green type. Fourth pick as well as the rookie are projects.. probably talls. PSD ..well..either a lucky gem or its leverage.
  21. the round 22 goal is on teh afl goal of the wek site.. what a terrible thing we have to do in separating these amazing kicks...lol This guy just KKNOWS where the sticks are...brilliant. He backs himself with , well not arrogance, just sheer self belief and Im fine with that I want a forward to know how to kick goals..to not be scared or unnecessaily unselfish. Glad he's playing with us
  22. good pickup.. was a beautifully measured kick. he just THINKS footy..and seems to do it all in his own time dimension. A couple of times he seemed way off the play...but then he was suddenly there collaring someone...bloody astute this bloke ..and deceivingly quick
  23. That's the whole point Titan.. Theres been a job within a job here.. Hes had to coach a team to arrive at a certain position...and thats actually hard to do. And I was actually applauding his ability to do the first one.. Hes got us to that point where we can now move forward. Im not juding his as a coach per se yet, just marvelling really at his ability to perform magic and acknowledging it. They are two somewhat different things
  24. ahem...cough... !! ooh...looky here...a whole forum for this Demonland..Drafting & Trading enjoy !!
  25. In the words of , of all people a Saints fan : "no, Melbourne had the perfect season -set themselves to win four games, selected the ones they would win, and played it out to a tee! Bailey - coach of the year! " Respect indeed... Whether you actually think that Bailey is the right or wrong man to deliver us the Holy Grail you must begrudgingly (or not ) concede that this man has done an amzing job. He's been tasked with overseasing the building and developmeng of a new team whilst allowing club champions to see out their days with respect, he's been charged with securing the best new available talent by deft slight of hand and stealthy subtefuge. He's had to do this whilst keeping a straight bat and straight face staring straight into the inquisitive beast we call the media. Possibly hardest of al lis that he's done it whilst maintaining his own beleif that this was actuully not only achievable but actually working to plan. Some say of Dean Bailey he has no plan. Look closely, very closely there was a plan all along, the plan called " Experimentation " Its not by mere chance that David Copperfield is in Melbourne currently, he's here to learn from the Grand Master : our own Dean Bailey !! Copperfield may be able to make women and statues disappear.....but our own Dean can make draft picks appear out of thin air !! That takes some skill and ability and I for one look forward to seeing what next he can conjure
