I disagree with the first bit and agree with Nut...theres just a whole lot of indifference really. Weve been burnt many times at thi sclub and possibly a 1 year policy is a bit too black and white and after all we're Red and Blue !! I am however curious as to your notion of giving him a break ? This is , in the big washup, about someone beiing paid truck loads to perform at an elite level. Either you can or you cant ( or dont ) . If you dont then there will be people who will ask legitmate questions as to whether a player ought to continue or not. Its got to be on the merit of the circumstances and that goes for all players really. Are you suggesting theres some sort of altruistic leniency to be dished out ?

I suppose the real benefit is in knowing where the money is over the next few years. Its not a year to year guessing game. Makes it easier to plan some things. Use it wisely MFC B)

I know many expect a Mea Culpa from moi ...and youll be waiting a long long while. Context. Hes done quite well thi syear but hes stil far from the magnificent many here would have him. Theres two sides to Jared..thats Jared for al those that cant spell. , Two sides: A reasonably accomplished spoiler and dowdy backman who does actually have great reading of the ball. Conversely a poor exponent of disposal and thought proscess when ball in hand. Would have to amongst the dees best/worst turnover merchants. A devout Dee and yep id reckon Red and Blue courses t hrough his veins. Did he deserve his 2nd place ? Well obviously the judges thought so. Now heres the irony...and the real quality of all this to take away. How many of those same said judges are either still with the club or in a position to judge next year ? Think about it. Rightly or wrongly Rivers has benefited from being on the selectors "pet " list. For mine that Rivers wins second...or even Green (this year ) still manages 11th says so much more about how the club faired in 2010 than any player in isolaltion. Says a lot about what needs to change...and by all accounts is. I wont be so mean to disallow Jared his 'deserts" ....but he wont win anything next year with an equivalent effort. What Jared was this year was arguably consistent. What he did bring to the game you can most likey rely upon to be there. i will add that by anyones rule Moloney deserved his Award.

Policy....or a recommended "guideline" of sorts ? Carved in stone is it ? Quite possibly the karma fairies spanked Brad big time. They remembered some of the quite unecessary positionings made by himself and certain other illustrious players ( now departed the club ) come previous contract times. Funny about all that. What goes around etc etc. The CLUB had a sh!t year and Brad was part of that mailaise. Are some looking to punish him or are tehy serious about looking at things in a realisitc light.. Brad is far from a spent force ( if not quite as shiny as he once was ) . We dont have a lot of senior experienced players who can put in. No one ought to ever question his bravery or ability on the ground. Its only been his application thi spast year thats brought all this into question. I once thought hed make a marvellous captian..Well we know better now. Without the full weight of expectation onhis shoulder he ought to return to some decent form. A good preseason will freshen him up. Wed be dumb dumb dumb , not to have him in our side for 2012. A new captain will be appointed. Neeld will sit down with him and discuss what he ecpects of him and how he is very much a part of this club.. Brad will respond. As to the idea of i year, only one year and go get effed anyone suggesting otherwise . Well thats just a little bit low -iq. Again I suggest the more profitable way foro all concerned is to provide invcentive. A one year with a one uyear kicker triggered providing certain kpi's are attained and we all win. The thing was Old I made th ebet with wife at the start of this year, not recently ..lol. I had reasonable expectations , well I thought they were..lol Im expecting some very real and discernable change next year. Not of an earth shattering nature but a noticeable one. Apart from the notion some players who ought to know better couldnt possibly string together two stinkers ( could they .?? ) but some wil have those extra games under belt and another pre season. . If Neeld can get this midfield to even half fire properly the whole momentum of games shifts. So much about footy happens between the ears and I just dont think many of our players have had their heads in the right space for years. Thats about to change as some might even be dragged screaming into a mind-frame of playing football consistently.. I dont think Neeld was chose just so he could baby sit and mollycoddle some of these guys' egos. Nope, he was brought on board to kick their little tooshs !! I , and I wasnt alone , have said time after time that there was a defintite 'crowd' at Melbourne who seemed all too cushy under the old regime. That al changed just over a week ago. i must confess I do like Beamers "cut to the chase" style of commentary ..lol I wonder if Col took it on board ?

I would have thought Brad would have 2-3 years left in him. However only 1-2 might be at a level warranting an AFL gig. Lifes about give and take, you , if you want to entice someone/soenthing must have bait. Suggest to Brad that good gmaes wil lbe rewarded with another year ought to be done in a fashion where a trigger comes into play preferably before the end of season. Hes due some consideration for his journey and efforts over the years.. The flip side is unlike the Jnr fiasco he would also know in reasonable time that he wouldnt be offered another contract. Some folk have no real idea of real life negotiations nor incentives.

And his 2010 form was terrific. What if he plays like that in 12 ?? A good decision then ? Yes. 011 was without doubt annus horribilus for Green. Unlikely his pride or ego would allow a repeat. But the Capataincy ought to be passed on to another who will do a better job, of captaining.

I come from the simpleton's stance of footy. Is he any bloody good ? Thats the one and only criteria, everything else is just something to be worked out.

Certainly Scott and Balme have their work cut out for them in this off season. Some healthy pruning and good supplimenting will see them reasonably ok. Keep in mind their swag of home ground games , With teh intro of GWs youd expect Geelong to still win 7-8 games even on a bad day , 2013 included. Id suspect the Sainters to slide further than the Kitty Kats. Time will tell, going to be interesting watching it all fromn the "other" end of the ladder B)

George , i reckon he stil can be a very effective player. . Hes not one plagues by injuries hes just laden down with a job he cant do. Hes in a sense trying to do too much and accomplishing nothing. Pare thatrole back to just decent hard at it 'sensible " footy and I genuinely feel he has at least a year lefft in him. But heres a player whos had the upper hand come last two times at the table and in some ways wasnt that shy with letting the club know it. The tables are turned now. We dont have a lot of good footy minds of the slightly older persausion running around at the moment and whilst hes able to produce a decent enough game Id keep him; not at all costs but given a reasonable look at what he brings to our game. Id be preapred to look at his track record and consider his "captains year' just a diabolical aberation for the time being. A 1 x 1 I should have though good value to both parties. But if he cant see that its really his only sensible choice then hes always free to ply his trade on the free market..
