Training Ground?
i would expect that any plans and commitments - such as those alluded to by @smurf - may be started over i know there is so much criticism of the board and administration of finding us a home base, but it really ain't for want of trying

as an inside mid he doesn't win enough contested football as an outside mid he doesn't use it cleanly he's too slow to play the nibbler role as a push-up half forward i think there's a reason he's always on the outer at the puddy tatts - he's classique 'good, ordinary' and too good for vfl, not good enough for permanent afl ...yet he's available as an unrestricted free agent which obviously holds appeal...

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
one thing... can you 'work on burst pace' or is it something that you innately have as part of your natural athletic gifts? we've tried to train clayton to 'use his legs' to power out of the contest and it worked very well in that 2021-23 inclusive period, but before that his fitness base didn't allow him to do it and this year was a write-off in that regard as well due to him not being able to do so as he did in his peak years you also don't want to do away with a player's core assets - such as smillie's strength in the contest - while ultimately harming what makes him so valuable i look at the way gc17 have tried to re-tool matt rowell to get him to burst away from stoppages and he's not particularly effective at it - yet - cos it's not in his natural footballing make-up

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
this is what we need the game has transitioned from 'contest and defence' - the mantras of premiership sides like richmond, melbourne, geelong, and wannabes like carlton - to 'speed and skill' like the filth executed last year for premiership success, and like bloods, Gw$, footscray, and dingley are trying to utilise successfully in 2024 you simply must have players who are good ball users - it was the hawthorn under clarkson mantra

Farewell Adam Tomlinson
i'm good with that i'm on record as not being a huge fan of tomlinson, but good luck to him

NON-MFC: Trade Talk
noble's back half of the year has been very good losing rioli, bolton, baker as well as retirements of martin and grimes plus others is a massive glut of experience out of the tigs

lukosious will be going to one of the adelaide teams i agree that when trac goes, as suspected, we need to reignite our midfield options from a senior perspective not just a development one, as per richo's comment on radio the other day footscray's jack macrae must surely be an option if they truly want him off their books as too good be dylan shiel, darcy parish from the peptides i'm not hugely enthused by those three, but they're three that may be options

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
whilst i think they're quite different players in terms of their skillsets, fwiw head to head comparison of jefferson vs caddy in the vfl in 2024... matt jefferson: 17 games, 29 goals 19 (with 2-3 games played in the backline), 9.4 disposals, 3.5 marks, 1.9 tackles, 54.2 fantasy points nate caddy: 8 games, 11 goals 9, 10.6 disposals, 4.4 marks, 1.5 tackles, 56.4 fantasy points

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
twomey's is his own personal ranking, not tying in club needs, i believe perhaps rookie me central's factors in supposed club requirements as well?

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
he would work on a consultancy basis simon mathews as ceo would be a change that might make a difference and i echo the call for todd coming back within the football department edit: but i'm not sure whether todd would return; he's been here once and overseen one period of success, and his 'job' is not finished at north he's clearly a terrific football dept operator and they are lucky to have him, but he did effectively 'retire' with us before being lured back

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
pert and richo's media statements are looking increasingly ridiculous and poor in the wake of the cultural issues within the football dept. and the lack of progress for a home base, not to mention the loss of sponsors and inability to replace them (albeit in extremely fraught economic times) roffey was handed the presidential mantle on the proviso that she was this great dealer with governments, and so far we've got minimal updates on what is going on with the home base there's an irony that in march, 2024, we had a loud president criticising quiet fans; by august, 2024, we have loud fans criticising a quiet president if trac does, indeed, force a trade then the board, leaders of the club, and football dept should be under incredible pressure to retain their roles

it's goodwin over petracca for mine the coach has everyone 'on board' apart from this one bloke who wants out all other murmurs - pickett, petty, viney etc. - have been nipped in the bud through contract extensions etc. it's one star player, with five years to run on his mega-deal, who is making murmurs about wanting out

i know everyone is leaning into the ben simmons comparisons, but to be honest this reminds me more of alex rodriguez, the baseball superstar who left the seattle mariners - the club that picked him at the top en of the draft, developed him into a superstar, only to see him walk out to the texas rangers as a free agent to become the highest paid player in the game, before forcing a trade for the bright lights of the new york yankees

I don’t think Connors would be happy with the ‘noise’ being made by Trac @binman It’s not the way he operates Whoever has been backgrounding Maclure, Morris isn’t working to his usual approach
