Preseason Training Week commencing - 8/01/18
hells bells replied to Marco's topic in Melbourne Demons
Saty, keen to hear how the Christian’s (Salem and Petracca) are looking in both the midfield drills and running. Any noticable strengths or weaknesses? -
G’day boys - no boot camp, get your runners on - 400 x 100’s instead... off you go...

I heard from a very reliable source that both Christians (P & S) were told at their end of season reviews to prepare for next season as midfielders. Based on the training reports this appears to have been confirmed.

Very pumped to see Jake Lever in the red and Blue. -
I know not everyone rates his opinion, but Garry Lyon on SEN yesterday mentioned that he thought Corey could turn into something special. Can't remember his exact wording but he sounded pretty excited about what he could bring. Last year he was very bullish about Clayton Oliver before 2017 started, so hopefully he has the same foresight on Corey.

Based on Lever’s Instagram account he is still in France. Don’t forget he played for an extra 5 weeks after our boys capitulated in around 23. I would expect he gets some additional grace period. -
Jack Trengove signed by Port Adelaide as a Delisted Free Agent

His girlfriend lives locally, on the peninsula. Could influence his decision. -
Brett Anderson said he thought he’d be around the mark in the Rookie Draft.

Talented 22 year old. Not sure why it hasn’t clicked for him.

I see he remains out of contract and potentially out the door at the Hawks. Would he be a pre-season draft option? He fits the right age profile in that he is only 22.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Brings genuine appetite for the contest in the same mold as: Petracca, Viney, Oliver, Hogan. IMO he is an absolute star in the making. -
Ask me in 3 years time.

2017 Player Reviews: # 45 Declan Keilty
hells bells replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I saw Dec with who I assumed were his parents at the international departure lounge last week. Contemplated saying hello but thought I’d leave him in peace. He seemed taller than I remembered from watching Casey play. -
Deespicable even the genius at Carlton who selected Curnow, picked Harry McKay ahead of him. Its easy to throw stones in hindsight.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
hells bells replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
I’m pretty sure I read/heard around the time of the draft he had told interstate clubs not to pick him because he wanted to stay in Melb. I also think from memory he and his family were in tears when he was drafted to Fremantle. If we get him I hope he turns into a gun, but he’s been pretty underwhelming so far. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
hells bells replied to ignition.'s topic in Melbourne Demons
Harley Balic has passed his medical tests with Melbourne and the Demons are now all but committed to bringing the midfielder across from Fremantle during the NAB AFL Trade Period. Balic has requested a move home to Victoria after two seasons with the Dockers and it is understood Fremantle will now work to facilitate a trade to his club of choice. The 20-year-old took indefinite leave from the club twice this season to deal with a personal issue and returned to Melbourne for a period during the season. What's he worth? The Dockers' starting point in negotiations is likely to be a pick in the 30s or 40s, but they might have to accept a later pick. The Demons hold pick No.45 in the third round and No.64 in the fourth round. Balic was a slider in his draft year of 2015 because of injury after being touted as a top-10 pick, eventually going at No.38. This sounds pretty close now. Passed a medical at the Dees according to AFL website. http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-10-06/trade-wrap-docker-almost-a-demon -

God I hope he comes to the Dees. -
The club would be mad not to at least enquire about Stringer. Brendan McCartney coached him for his first couple of seasons and may know of any issues/mental demons that seem to have plagued him over the past season and a half. Prior to that he looked like becoming a genuine superstar. Those dismissing him would do well to remember that Toby Greene was on the trade table a couple of years ago and is now one of the most damaging players in the comp (admittedly I hate him with a passion). in 2006 a young troublesome player, with similar freakish (but flakey) abilities was nearly traded to Collingwood but failed a medical. Went on to win 3 flags and a Norm Smith. I'd be definitely be asking the question and getting Macca's opinion before dismissing the idea completely.

Another bloody windy day here. Conditions will be very tough at Williamstown I expect.
