The Ox and Marko sacked by SEN
iv'a worn smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
To me SEN is on the skids. Hutchy may be shrewd when it comes to the figures ($), but I am not sure his identification of so-called 'talent' is that good. While I know much of the programming still relies on the summer sports calendar, personally I find most of the programming to be exceptionally boring. The previous cameo by Dr Turf on KB's morning program was OK, but I just don't believe the chemistry can last for an entire program. Andy Maher, to me, is extremely tedious, particularly his incessant preambles into inane questions. Why SEN went back to the future with Maher beggars believe really. While Finey could rankle, I at least found him entertaining and particularly enjoyed his segment with Geoff Poulter, interviewing past VFL/AFL stars. As for Whately, time will tell I guess. Not that I think Whately is not an excellent sports broadcaster, but the fit with SEN just doesn't seem to me to be the right synergy. -
The Ox and Marko sacked by SEN

While at Uni, I had a part time job in a department store selling menswear. It was appropriate protocol back then to ask a 'gentleman', while measuring his inside leg as to "what side sir dresses on?" I'm a leftie. What a crock. Media bias is in the eye of the beholder. Shock jocks can make political editorial comment and sell it as general news. Good save the ABC I say. -

According to reports today, Whately did not want to leave the ABC, but felt that his former employer was too slow in getting a contract on the table. If his preference was to stay at the ABC, you have to wonder if his heart will be in it at SEN. Time will tell I guess. -
The President on Sen Now

I thought he interviewed very well and address the cancellation of the training camp well. The coaches made the decision. End of story. -

Andy Maher back in the lunchtime slot. Cue the 3 minute preamble before an actual question gets asked of the 'guest'. -
Boot Camp 2017 cancelled by Players

I don't know the full story. Neither do you, other than what the media hounds think is a big story and have printed. -
Boot Camp 2017 cancelled by Players

During Christmas and New Year breaks, things become very slow, in terms of sports news. The likes of "fill-in' breakfast hosts, Maher, Brown and Frawley, will clutch at anything that they can run with, in all their "journalistic" banality and In my view, that is what has happened here. Subscribe to conspiracy theories all you like, but I'll continue to trust in the guys to get the job done. -

Boot Camp 2017 cancelled by Players

In all of this, I doubt any of us on here know the exact nature of the machinations that went on, leading up to the decision. However, what peeves me is the likes of Spud Frawley and Campbell Brown at their blokey best, trying to put the 'soft underbelly' tag on us. Brown's comment that this is very Melbourne like, peeves me even more. The guy was a thug in his playing days. I accept Goody's response to this and hope that the players use the comments of Frawley and Brown as a motivating force, rather than accepting the put down. Go Dees in 2018. -

Hutchy may have business acumen, but if anyone has listened to his inane banter with Liam Pickering, on their Saturday morning show; "Off the Bench", you would know that Marko and Ox are oracles in comparison. -
What a great bloke Max was. Wore number 1 and was a number one fella. In terms of the Late Show, my favourite was Grassby, Grills, Nudge and Plumb, instead of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

Donny Williams. Number 25. An absolute dasher and a star. 5 time premiership player was named on the HBF in our team of the century.

That's fine. I have no problem with that. But the question remains, at what price?
-
A total disgrace. If we win a flag I'll eat my words gladly. IF. Never, ever eat your own.

Whatever the "criticism", it has been aired very publicly and as I said, JW doesn't deserve that. Get the job done, sure, but don't publicly bag the guy. Being told in public that in doing your job, you don't put in is pretty demeaning. http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-trade-news-watts-not-fit-for-melbourne-selfish-ablett-the-wrong-cat-tom-rockliff-wants-out/news-story/a382e18c25c094586b74db384b6673d3

In the main I agree with this. I find it difficult to understand why the club has been so public about Jack's so-called shortcomings. Sure, go to the trade table with him if you want to, but do it quietly behind closed doors. Regardless of his failings, JW does not deserve such a public airing of his perceived faults. That said, I get a sense that there is a lot more to this than we know. But just what that may be, who knows?

Precisely. While making pragmatic football decisions - as is imperative in this day and age - the methodology seems a little off to me as well.

WTF. My mind is anything but "hateful". I do not wish for the bastardisation of democracy, I simply witness it on a daily basis from manipulating politicians on both sides of the political fence. The hateful speech comes from those that seek to demonise those who happen to be in same sex relationships.
-
Not at all. Clearly you did not read my post very well. I hate the bastardisation of it. You will see the result of democracy at its finest, when a resounding yes vote gets up in the redundant plebiscite that Turnbull foist upon us, under the guise of an "election promise", which was more an abrogation.
-
Ahh that old red herring. Governments aren't voted in. Tired ones are voted out. Trying to claim a mandate from an electorate that is tired of mainstream politicians is moot. We elect our so-called representatives to get the job done. Nowadays, pollies only react to the 24 hour news cycle and 5 second sound bytes. Most people couldn't tell you which of the so-called election promises they remember. Notwithstanding the fact that election promises are consistently broken as a matter of course. The Marriage Act is a man made piece of legislation, it is not not derived from a particular piece of religious text. Religious institutions will still conduct themselves in the manner they see fit and in this country we still have freedom of religion, in terms of choice. I was brought up a Catholic, but although I was legally divorced, the Catholic church will not allow me to re-marry in one of their Churches, as a divorcee. And what of the level of domestic violence in heterosexual relationships? Have you seen the stats? Oh, but it is OK for a child to witness his abusive father beat the child's mother, but let us not subject a child to a loving relationship of a same sex couple. Of course, the Churches of various colours, which seek the moral high ground, are damned by their own abusive histories.

Several weeks ago my wife booked a trip to Vietnam. When I noticed the dates booked, I realised that I would be away for the GF. I said to her, why didn't you check the dates with me first? The Dees may well be at the 'big dance, and with these dates I will miss it'. Fast forward to last Saturday and I was wishing I could get on the plane then and there. As with many of us, I have had to endure the ribbing of mates, who see slagging MFC supporters as a sport in itself. I just grinned and beared it, believing that we had turned the corner and September.....even October action was assured. Why do I/we do this to ourselves? I was angry like many of us. I was irrational as well, disbelieving of some of the selections and moves the coaching panel made. Why wasn't Frost playing? How can the team be so complacent to put in such an insipid first quarter performance? Surely the coach failed to get the boys up for this game, as was his responsibility. In the clear light of day, I was actually relieved, because in my view, we would have simply been making up the numbers. What still remains is that this group of players needs to shoulder responsibility for not realising the importance of last Saturday and getting themselves up for it. So often this year, even with some of our more notable wins, there were periods where we went to sleep. I hope Jonesy is right and the players 'pain' will give them the resolve to make amends next year. But I am not getting any younger and I can only believe it, when and if I see it. Here's hoping the almighty will shine down on us just once, before I depart the mortal coil.......... but I won't be holding my breath. Why do we do this to ourselves, I keep asking? Anyway, I will pack my bags and head off to the heat of South East Asia. Knowing my luck, my seat on the plane will be next to a smug and feral filth supporter.
