  1. Whatever anyone thinks about this topic there is one fact that can't be argued against and that is the top 4 sides all have 2 or more big bodied players in their forward lines. Dawes, Cloke and Brown himself for the Pies, Mooney, Pods and Hawkins for the Cats, Nick and Kosi for the Saints and Hall and Hahn for the Dogs. Now hit those keyboards those of you who think we don't need at least one.
  2. You mean junior's brother Anthony who played 104 games for us.
  3. Don't think my personal "disappointment" equates to " us kicking ourselves ". Nevertheless in a couple of years I will see if I am still disappointed and if we should be kicking ourselves.
  4. Disappointed we couldn't get him.
  5. It is amazing, 15 players injured and unavailable just as our VFL team enters finals. The same thing happened last year. Casey would be very disappointed. They may go out in straight sets again after a great year. Collingwood on the other hand has 1 injury of more than 1 game.
  6. Agree with the article. The Suns are in the best position to get both, one as an uncontracted player and the other with a better draft pick than anyone else can offer. Carlton are also interested in Brennan and have apparently offered Brock and Johnson,( only joking ). They could however offer some players like Setanta, Hampson, Thornton etc combined with a draft pick. This will be an interesting trade period.
  7. I would have a problem with Davey being captain as I don't like the idea of our captain being pushed around by the opposition. That does happen and would happen even more if he was captain. I am certainly comfortable with him being deputy. I don't think our next captain is a clear cut choice. I prefer Green for his on field role but am not sure about his off field capabilities. Those that will make the selection will know all the attributes of the contenders.
  8. Don't think our Footy Department would be happy with that coming from the Casey Coach.
  9. Not sure that is the answer. If you look at last week's fantastic effort and then yesterday where we had far more of the ball and more scoring shots than the opposition, that doesn't indicate tired players. You don't miss from 25 metres straight in front early in a game due to tiredness.
  10. Yes again Nasher. I don't agree we have been fine all year. Winning games sometimes masks deficiencies. I believe that other sides even when losing can still get their disposal right, they generally just haven't got a lot of the ball. I believe we have been poor in disposal for a while now. Our coach and recruiting department have acknowledged that several times and we all knew that we would only be recruiting players with good disposal as of the last couple of drafts. Hopefully we have done that. JT missing from 20 metres out straight in front in the first minute of yesterday's game was hopefully only an aberration. However we must have missed at least 7 other fairly easy shots and in the end that cost us the game. These weren't shots on the run under tackling pressure but rather set shots. That alone indicates a degree of poor disposal. Yesterday we had 70 more possessions than Port yet our efficiency was at 55%. What does that tell you? We got the ball 70 more times than the opposition, had more scoring shots yet lost by 5 goals. I would put that down to poor disposal.Better disposal this year may have seen us win a couple of those close games we lost. IMO we need to improve in that area and the way to improve is practice, not ignoring it and accepting that we are OK because we won some games.
  11. Our kicking was/is pathetic and our handball not much better. This has to be the main area concentrated on over summer. Unless we improve in our disposal we will never be a strong side.
  12. Interesting to hear all three commentators on Fox today say that we need a Leigh Brown type desperately. A big bodied strong marking older player.
  13. Scott will re sign with Crows very soon. Will finish his career with them.
  14. Further good news for the MFC.
  15. That was for Bock, Brown, Harbrow, Krakouer and their mates.
  16. Last two picks in 2009 were Max Gawn and Jack Fitzpatrick.

    I'm worried

You are right, you don't, only strong successful clubs do that. Look at the Pies and Josh Fraser. As Junior said he got his start because someone else retired.
  18. Not sure but I think PJ qualifies for Casey if he plays this week and they need a ruckman for the finals. Think he may play for Casey and then in their finals side where he will carry the ruck.
  19. Martin as you note is not really a ruckman and Fitzpatrick is being groomed as a forward. That leaves Jamar , Gawn and Spencer who will need time and Johnson who is not a class ruckman. Given that scenario PJ will probably be kept for at least another season to allow Gawn and Spencer time to develop.
  20. Spot on. Fancy throwing Grimes to the wolves at this stage of his career, when he is having enough trouble trying to string games together.
  21. Agree. Flash and Beamer would make good joint Vice Captains.
  22. Agree entirely. It is a courageous decision by the Coach and the Footy Department to end the career of a club favourite. These are the types of decisions that demonstrate the character and resolve of those in charge. We are in good hands. More importantly today I would like to acknowledge a great career. Junior was not the most talented player we have ever had but was certainly one of the most determined. He has never given in on any contest and put his body on the line several times. He was a fine leader and has earned the respect of all who came in contact with him. He will be remembered as a great Demon, one of only 7 players to have played 250 games to this point in time and one who gave his all for the club. On top of that he was a Rookie who rose to be leader of his club, a great feat. I wish him well in his next stage and would not be surprised if he plays on somewhere, perhaps in the country and even possibly coaches as well.
  23. I recall Robbo kicking a mass of goals a few years back and missing out to the more accepted big names in the game. Often the name players are selected even though others have had better seasons.
  24. Clint has had a great year but still needs to work on his kicking. The odd clanger hurts in modern possession football.
