  1. Agree. A couple of players make a big difference if they are good. Take out Rioli and Franklin from Hawthorn and they are nowhere near as good. Same with Pendles and Thomas or Swan from Pies, Judd and Murphy from Blues. We need to add a couple of class mids and maybe with our 3 picks in the first round this year we will do exactly that.
  2. Can see a very intense game this week as Tigers and us both desperate to get a win to stop season spiralling out of control. Loser will probably be declared finished for the year.
  3. That stat is never mentioned by the media when they can us for losing. 3-4 good players can make a big difference.
  4. Many on here claimed Fitzy was hopeless and should be delisted. He is starting to show his value and he hasn't developed yet physically though he is getting there. Watts and Cook may be the same and we could end up with those three and Clark making us pretty big and strong down forward. Also with Tom Mc and Davis we have some promising talent who are big and strong. Gawn hasn't even been mentioned and he can play forward as well.
  5. Sylvia's return is predicted now at 7 weeks after he got the injury. Probably shouldn't be surprised as sounded fairly serious.
  6. I think we just need some good news at the moment. A win against the Tigers. A new sponsor. Dropping the charges against LJ.
  7. Cook's writing a book on the history of the Cats.
  8. Just by the way, how funny would it be if Watts, Fitzpatrick and Cook all became big strong quality key forwards. It would certainly change our fortunes.
  9. I am off there next week and miss Cats, Hawks, Saints and Dogs games. Might not be missing too many wins. As for your comment about the season being over, I think 2 games in with one at Pattersons against WC is too early to call.
  10. I'm trying to analyse WC's team and it seems to go like this. They have mountains in the forward line Kennedy, Lynch, Darling and resting Cox or Nic Nat, more mountains in the back line Glass, Waters, Hurn etc, speed and skill in the middle, Kerr, Priddis, Gaff, Shuey, Selwood, forward crummers in Hams, Hill and marking crummers who didn't play in Le Cras and Nicoski and a strong work ethic adhered to by all which means you gut run all game. We have only one mountain in Clark, who gets poor delivery and hasn't taken a mark, in the forward line, one mountain in the backline Chip, who is not playing to his best, Sellar is probably another, no speed or skill in the middle only grunt in Jones, Magner, Beamer etc and we don't gut run ( back up and make position). That seems to be it. Oh did I mention we have the worst disposal in the league as well. These are the things that need to change for us to improve like WC and the good teams.
  11. Don't cushion the blow, give it to us straight.
  12. Not so sure that GWS or GC would make us use say pick 3 if we finished 16th as we could actually then take one of the two best players in the country. They would probably be better than JV. I don't think they would risk it. If we finished higher than 16th we would probably have to give our first round pick. That is how I see it. Also you could trade a player or picks etc and include that condition in the deal.
  13. Another problem yesterday was that our 3 quickest players, IMO, Davey, Blease and Nicholson weren't playing for various reasons. The first two have lost form and the second while suspended is a poor disposer of the ball. The loss of speed over there kills you.
  14. Some now getting their jollies from GWS being thrashed and $ playing poorly. I guess I am one of them.
  15. Thought Neeld was good in his conference. Better than last week. Don't know what some people expect him to say.
  16. Sounds trite, but look at clubs like WC that finished bottom and made finals the very next year.It can be done. We have a poor slow midfield but that could be changed in one draft. Viney plus 2 other or 3 other good mids can change our side. Jones playing with quick skillful mids is a different team. Fitzpatrick, Watts and Cook need to develop and LJ needs to get back in the side. Tom Mc showed plenty. Confidence dies when you are chasing and umpired out of a game in the first half. But for the umpiring we were not bad in the first half. WC are a good team and more so at a hot Patterson stadium. Having 3 umpires give you soft goals is soul destroying to the away opposition. If we were Carlton or Pies we would be bleating about the 22-1 free kick count early in the 3rd quarter. Hang in it will turn around, but it might take a while.
  17. What a pathetic thread, yes lets all give up. Lets expect the club and players to rally but we all just give up. Yes it is bad now but I am not throwing away about 55 years of fanatical devotion to just give up. It will turn around and I will be there when it does. There is lots to fix but it will be fixed. One good draft, picking well, can give us a new midfield. That is our main problem on the field. Our list will be turned around quickly. It will change and I will be there when it does. My only alternative is to give up footy and I won't. To those who want to quit, grow some balls. Go Dees.
  18. That is pretty defeatist. I am not suggesting all is great but it is not that bad. We don't have major sponsors atm but they will come. We have a $10m asset unlike ever before. Today we played a very good team, at their home ground, in the heat with only 2 missing from their best side. We had several good players out. We had a real crack in the first half and copped a 21 - 1 free kick count against us, which is an AFL record. They got at least 5 goals from the umpires in that first half to our none. We were ahead in the contested possessions. Clearly then we fell away in the second half. We are weak in disposal and running power and in the midfield. These things will be addressed and improvement will come. We could have 3-4 new mids next year. Joel Mc, Green and a few others will be gone. Tom Mc looked good. Magner continues to impress. Amongst the [censored] there are a few positives. I am feeling as down as you but I won't give up, not after investing 55 years in this bloody club.
  19. The sad thing is that leaving aside Jones, our best mid is a 2nd game VFL player and he is a mile ahead of the next bloke.
  20. That was a huge one. He is still a clearance specialist. Great player.
