The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
Redleg replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not another tanking inquisition. -
Had an acai berry smoothie yesterday. They are meant to be really healthy. Funny, I still feel sh-thouse.
-
School ! Roos is getting to you all, with his talk of re educating the team.
-
That might be our spot.
-
I noticed Damian Barrett put the boots in again on the Sunday Footy Show. Hutchy reminded him that we had no forward line available and lost 2 before quarter time. I am convinced he has a clear dislike for the Dees.
-
Only if we get our forwards back. I honestly believe if we have our best side playing, we are now not that bad.
-
You know you can buy those banana chips, they are quite tasty and will take your mind off the footy. Spare a thought for me. On monday I tape all of the footy shows and watch them, Classified, 360, Couch, Talking Footy, Open Mike and it is hard to do when you lose, which we almost always do.
-
I think your mondays will improve when we get our forward line back and /or you eat twice as many sandwiches.

Well I was about to call the Police on saturday night when Ray basically sodomized Vince, lying flat on top of his back and then another Saint piled on top, while Vince was pinned to the ground. You couldn't have got a smartie out from under Vince, let alone a football. How in the hell is that holding the ball? Don't even start me on the 2 push in the backs against Tyson and Toumpas, which all commentators agreed were not there. On both occasions we were about to run to goal.
-
Yes, you can bring out the taste of the banana, with a bit of peanut butter.

All those players named would be dying to come to the Dees, if nothing else, just to add a few flags to their CV. I think our first task is to get rid of sub standard players, adopt the Roos recruiting philosophy of adding a few more good hard players, by trading an early pick for a lower pick and a player for example and starting to climb up the ladder. When we start that climb and show we are on the move, then we can go after a star player or two.

No one was more disappointed than me but I also saw it coming, it was obviously there for all to see. The Saints had some good mids out but still had some of their senior ones in. We had all our key forwards out. We had our best defender out who can also play forward and 2 ruckmen and 2 good mids including our hardest. The Saints were rubbished by the media and were going to come out fighting. They had their champion captain forward in and fit and other key forwards to back him up. You can't win a game without key forwards as we have seen over the last 7 years. We also played 2 sub AFL standard footballers On top of that, on the day, we kicked terribly for goal, lost our CHF and CHB in the first quarter and also had Howe and Dunn injured early. We also as usual didn't get any luck with the umps. We gave away at least 4 goals from crap turnovers. However we did have more possessions, more inside 50's, but because of poor kicking wasted the chances. For the record, I can't see us winning a game until we get our key forwards back and playing well. I think our second half of the year is going to improve markedly.

Som depressed could not even turn to Redtube or World Movies or SBS late night movies.

Now Sue you and I usually agree but not on this point. Let me start by saying I am rapt we have Roos as a Coach and I am confident he will turn us around over time. He will change the list and culture and game. However, it was abundantly clear to me sitting 75 metres away, how incapacitated Tom was.He was telling a trainer on the ground he could barely run. Everyone at that ground knew he was injured. It was a mistake to leave him on one of the hardest runners and best marks in the game after his injury. Tom should have gone to FF or the FP and otherwise the bench. Just because he is Roos does not mean he cannot be criticized. I think if asked he might even agree. As for hindsight, Coaches act in the minute, when they get it wrong you can always bring up hindsight as an excuse. BTW, after watching the Tigers Nab cup game my son and I wrote off Pedersen finally and for good. Unfortunately due to injuries, the Coach made another mistake and didn't do the same .
-
That is rubbish, his only problem is some occasional poor and costly disposal. No go, he would run through a brick wall.
-
Agree.
-
Agree, but you mean triumphs of the last 7 years. Even a second round pick could have given us Dunstan, or allowed us to trade for a couple of senior players, who would then have been able to get injured over summer and be out for half a season.
-
He was recruited as a forward. He is not overweight and totally devoid of football ability like the bloke he would replace. He would not miss a goal from 5 metres after being given a handball by a team mate with no one between him and the goal. I would settle for a couple of rag dollings. I think we have to settle on the fact that some blokes aren't good enough and simply not play them, no matter the result, which IMO would be better anyway.
-
This is a bit radical but even though he isn't ready, I would try and find a way to play King up forward until we can get some of the key forwards back. I know he would have to be uplifted but with Riley as well as Clark out maybe there is a way. Everyone seems to say don't kill the young guys, but several young guys killed us last night and one of our old guys, who cant' even kick a goal with no pressure from 5 metres out and who is essentially hopeless nearly killed me.
-
What about next week?
-
Agree. Their attack on the ball and their aggro at the man was clear to see even from the new guys.
-
What tall forwards?
-
Agree. The fact that we had no forwards changed our whole style. We stopped when we got the ball because there was no one up forward and then we turned it over under the pressure.I think we made a huge blunder in selection as well. Picking Gawn and Blease would have given us a target up forward and some pace on the forward line to break up the Saints defence. It would have straightened us up. IMO we would have won the game with one winning key forward on the night. The injuries to Fitz and Tom just killed any chance.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Redleg replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't worry about them, they can play football and win matches, unlike another side who can't even get their players on the ground, let alone win matches. -
I said zip and 5 in a post on another thread. Haven't changed my mind.
