WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Redleg replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am now seeing myself as the " grass is always greener" type of guy, because of this ND. I had accepted for quite a while that Petracca was the best player in the draft and that the Saints would naturally draft him. GWS are in love with him and wanted to give multiple early picks to get him. I then accepted that we would draft Brayshaw and McCartin and have come to look forward to this scenario. A KPF and a mid. Today in an AFL article, Saints Coach Richardson says that Petracca is the best player in the draft, but that a KPF is hard to come by and that they should look at taking him. If that happens, then we can pick arguably the best player in the draft, with pick 2 or 3 and have arguably the 2 best players in the draft with picks 2 and 3, yet somehow that is making me feel uncomfortable. I think I need this to be over, so I can move on with whoever we get. -
Sadly so do I.

We are in a good position. -
After just reading the AFL article quoting Richardson, I am now totally confused. He says Petracca is the better player, but getting a McCartin in the future may be very expensive and why shouldn't they just take him now and get him to fall in love with the club. I think I can safely say they will take one of them.
-
Agree. Would like to have picked up Oscar McDonald, especially if we miss McCartin.
-
They are also looking at Reece McKenzie. They have added Membrey, a slightly smaller forward. I think it makes them less likely IMO.
-
Think you are both right. We had a go at Dangerfield as admitted by Mahoney and when unsuccessful, turned our attention to Lever, who is one of 4 under consideration for our picks 2 and 3.
-
I feel truly humbled to have been annointed your favourite poster and I don't take it lightly. I am thinking of having your post framed next to a picture of me. As to what end on the misinformation, I have done my investigations on the number 1 pick scenarios and it just seems to me that first, the Saints would not have passed up picks 4 and 7 for 1, unless they wanted Petracca and second, that the AFL is a little peeved that we all think we know who the Saints will take and they are trying to spice up the event with some mystery and confusion.

Who got into my wardrobe?
-
It is getting so close, very exciting. Wongs that is.
-
I think we are being misinformed and that the Saints will take Petracca.
-
GWS report in Sun today strangely doesn't have ex demon in any of the categories for achievement. It is as though he doesn't exist. Rather fitting actually.
-
Just remember, the Saints knocked back 4 and 7 for 1 which GWS would have used to take Petracca. If they wanted a key forward they could have got Wright at 4 and maybe even still McCartin and had pick 7 to get another good mid. I think that tells you they were keeping 1 for Petracca, who would have been gone at 4.
-
Yep.
-
I think the leak could be a deliberate false one, instigated by the AFL, to keep the suspense up for the draft.
-
Now you are talking, yes 2.
-
Well that is deflating, I didn't make your list.

Actually Hogan comes from a higher base having played a year of Casey, in the NAB Cup and having had now his third AFL pre season. But otherwise I agree with your premise. If we take McCartin and he has a good pre season and NAB Cup, he will play, if not he starts at Casey. -
Ok boys, Wongs next tuesday, the 2nd of December, to discuss all things MFC, say 6.00PM. Who is up for it? Tasty but reasonably priced chinese food in Glenhuntly Road Elsternwick. I think OD, BB and me are in.

And if they played with the WB's it could have been " give the dog a bone".
-
I think that is how the Dees see it too.The comment was made that there is no McCartin in the next 2 drafts and a young kid with 9 games just got $7m.
-
If the Sun article on the Saints today is correct, Brayshaw is now a Demon. It also said that the Saints have decided on their first pick. Trying to unravel it I noticed that there were predictions of mids to come after their first pick, which suggested McCartin was their choice, but then I noticed a couple of key forwards mentioned and one training with them and I swung back to Petracca. So again it looks like we come back to the same 3 in the order mentioned by most, unless the Dees overlook McCartin. Given what I heard last week at the meeting with Viney and Taylor that looks unlikely. Conclusion, welcome to the Dees Angus and Paddy.

4 Watts up?

I would have thought that this thread should continue at the very minimum until he ends his AFL career. What is your fascination with closing down a thread that is heavily used and a great place for discussion of all things not him.
