Disagree here. Dont think a top 15 talent in this draft walks into our best 23 at all. It’s a demonstrably weaker draft than the one in which we took Koltyn pick 13, and 2 years in he’s on the periphery and playing most weeks at Casey. Besides, I don’t want to lose an absolute superstar of our club for a couple of kids that can play a role without setting the world on fire.

Yes, but obviously no trade action over the weekend. If, like demons forever suggests there’s a meeting between Humphrey and the club tomorrow, you’d think that if there was a trade request coming, it’d come pretty shortly after. Maybe COB tomorrow is a bit hasty, but end of weekend maximum. If we’re heading into Monday with no word of him explicitly wanting to join us I just think there’s too many pieces that need to fall into place for the deal to get done, especially with Gold Coast being as resolute as they have hitherto been.

If by COB tomorrow there’s no Humphrey trade request I reckon you can just about put a pin in this. Until then you can only hope.

And that’s without considering that this draft is demonstrably shallower than the last two seasons, and far more compromised.

For next year, no. For the long term (assuming Mihocek is successful in tutoring JVR and Jeffo), absolutely.

Hate to bring the mood down but I think we might be glorifying the calibre of this draft a little now it seems we’re gonna have two high picks. A couple months back Twomey who everyone knows is the draft guru stated that everyone taken picks 1-5 in the 2023 draft would be a shoe in for pick 1 this year, and Sanders (pick 6) would’ve been in the mix. That’s a top 5 that includes Zane Duursma - he would’ve been the runaway pick 1. We took Windsor with pick 7, and even though I love the kid, he was touted to be more in the early teens range. In this draft he would be an outside smoky for pick 1. The only player in this draft that’s of interest to me at the high end is Sullivan Robey, but he’ll almost certainly be off the board by 6 (becomes 10+ with Allen compo, Uwland, Patterson and Annable, potentially Dean and King). I’ll back whichever kids we bring in and hope for the best, but I’m under no illusions that we’ll be getting another Langford and Lindsay.

I’m hating the way this appears to be heading 🫣

Yeh Humphrey doesn’t sound like it’ll be happening. Twomey and Beveridge very insistent that Gold Coast won’t entertain a trade involving him. If we miss on Flanders too this’ll be an all time trade shafting

Morris just said that St Kilda gets Flanders and we get pick 7 I’ve done this bluff before but if all we get for trac is pick 7 (11 after academy bids and WC Allen compensation) I genuinely can’t justify my membership price for next season

I want corroboration from any of the more reliable sources (twomey or Cleary especially) before I buy too much into this. Xander seems a good bloke but wouldn’t put my house on his sources just yet.

Realistically how does a 7 win team fare after losing 4 of its best 22 (1 a young gun, 1 2nd in the BnF and 1 showing signs of getting back to lofty standards) in the same offseason, without replacing them with anything special and having limited draft capital. I will not begrudge King at all a bottom 4 finish next year, as that seems where we’re headed. All in for Dougie Cochrane!

Sam Flanders
Heard through the grapevine that at a grand final luncheon yesterday Ross was insistent we’re still the front runners for Flanders

Would be a great result. If travaglia also manages to slide I’d snap him up at 9

Could be cold feet the night before a wedding. But I’m not sure Lindsay’s disposal is good, really, at all. Far too much loft on his kicks inside 50 https://youtu.be/jGa4Wjz3j3A?si=4D1uQrF12ODkjGI2

2024 Phantom Drafts
Of the four names that we’re linked to (tauru, Langford, Lindsay, Allan), I think the only combination I’d be disappointed with is Lindsay and Tauru. Feel like at minimum we need 1 big bodied, ready to go mid for round 1 next year

2024 Phantom Drafts
JT mentioned on gettable yesterday that the Gippsland boys have been very welcoming of Mentha, and specifically name dropped Duursma (I think Zane?) and Lindsay

2024 Phantom Drafts
I’m not sure I see it with Lindsay, hence why I’m keener on Allan. I acknowledge Lindsay’s disposal is great, but Allan’s build and athleticism, and leadership skills, make him more alluring to me. Realistically, so long as we take a mid with pick 5, im not overly fussed with what we do with pick 9, certainly won’t kick up a stink if Lindsay joins.

More than happy with Tauru at 9, just not at 5. To be taken in the phantom draft with st kilda’s 2nd pick, I reckon call must have word that, although he’s a bolter, he’s not likely to be a top 5 pick

2024 Phantom Drafts
If ever there was a year for twomey to be bang on… Langford and Allan would be unreal
-
2024 Phantom Drafts
I appreciate your optimism, but ending up with say Tauru and Lindsay, when just a couple days ago we were eyeing off Langford/FOS/Smith and Allan, is uninspiring to say the least
-
2024 Phantom Drafts
Yep. If Langford/Smith/FOS are available we’ll take them, if not it’s Tauru is my read as well
