  1. Linked with Dove and Pickett however Cal did caveat that our picks are most likely too early for either of them. Seems almost inevitable that we’ll be picking from the other 5
  2. Basically eliminates the small but romantic chance of winning the flag from outside the top 6
  3. Would not feel the same in this new tinpot format
  4. Nah. His phantom form guides are based on his view of players’ abilities. It’s only his mock draft that relies more heavily on clubs’ intentions.
  5. That is true. But that to me seemed a needs-based pick after a season where our top goalscorer was Trac with 22. I don’t think we’re in a position to do that this year when we’ve got holes all over the field. If we were to just draft on ability I personally don’t think Nairn is as high as our pick. Just my view
  6. For clarity I know we all love JT and know how good he is at spotting a bolter but Nairn is not in the Windsor/Tholstrup camp. Comparatively in October 2023 Windsor was ranked 11th and Tholstrup 16th. We ended up taking Caleb with pick 7 and Kolt with 13. Nairn is currently ranked 29th, and if we were to take him with one of our picks that’d be in the 11-12 range. Even Dogga was ranked 14th at the same stage. I would feel a lot more comfortable if we picked Nairn up through trading back into the later end of the first round than reaching at 7/8 (11/12). We’ve just lost two of our stalwart midfielders.
  7. Thing with Nairn is, if no one else is targeting him in the top 15ish, why wouldn’t you just try to trade into the draft with Gold Coast’s future 1? The Herald Sun also had us taking Nairn, but with pick 34 (37 being moved up a few slots due to bids). I know JT has a good eye for a bolter but this seems like quite a long bow that could easily leave egg on our face
  8. The more that comes out I reckon at this stage Cumming & Farrow are the front runners. Plenty to play out in the next couple of weeks of course.
  9. Could that not be just a tactical deficiency that could be trained once he’s a full time footballer in a professional system? For me the biggest red flag in Grlj would be that once he bulks up his explosiveness might take a hit, like Josh Sinn.
  10. Agree. Potentially that his floor isn’t as high as say Farrow who if nothing else is a good user. But I’d definitely want to snap him up if he gets to our pick
  11. Twomey has dangled the carrot. Essentially put a line through Schubert and pretty confidently asserted we’re after midfielders. Specifically mentioned Robey (unlikely to make it), Sam Cumming, Jacob Farrow and potentially Xavier Taylor. Also in the course of the ep suggested Josh Lindsay’s draft range starts at the hawks’ pick 10, and that most of Dovaston’s interest kicks off in the teens. Didn’t link us to Grjl specifically but believes the tigers won’t take him.
  12. If he’s there at 37 I reckon Matthew LeRay would be a great pickup. Genuinely impressed by his highlights
  13. Twomey on Gettable today seems to think it’s mids we’re after
  14. Herald Sun article today has us taken Schubert and Lindsay fwiw Really hope Schubert isn’t actually on our radar
  15. Just judging by how he moves he’s not a Walter or Cadman type. His movement reminds me of Tim English, and I personally wouldn’t want a Tim English type at full forward
  16. Coming around to Philippou. Pairing him with Cumming, Dovaston, Lindsay or Grjl would be great. There was a comment earlier in this thread questioning his character because he backed himself as the best prospect in the draft. I don’t see it at all; Mattaes was the exact same in his draft year, and you can hardly claim he’s a cancer to his club’s culture. It’s just confidence in his ability. It’s on the nose for me, but he’d know from day 1 of preseason that it’s time to keep his head down and get to work.
  17. So Pickett definitely won’t be reaching pick 37
  18. Would be very very low on my list of who I want. Would be lengths behind his SA teammate Mitch Marsh, who himself isn’t particularly high
  19. I think Lindsay would be a good pick without being married to the idea. An elite kick is one skill that transfers very well from juniors to the AFL, unlike sometimes speed/agility (look at Josh Sinn) and ball winning/explosiveness (tsatas). It’s not to say he will be elite, or that the speedy and powerful mids in this draft won’t be but it’s a good trait to have
  20. Twomey reporting it’s unlikely that there’s much or any movement in the top 10 draft picks. Only mentioned Essendon as having a crack to move up the board.
  21. Potentially. Tbf tho Sparrow in 2021 was tracking to be a future gun and definite member of the leadership team. If he progressed as anticipated it would’ve been great. His stagnation has confused me more than just about anyone else’s in recent times, deadset plodder these days.
  22. Someone who hasn’t been mentioned much, but Sam Cumming from highlights looks quite exciting.
  23. There probably is in Arki Butler. That said, there are probably better midfielders in next year’s drafts than who we will be targeting this year, it doesn’t mean you pass on them because of a prospective talent. In many ways each draft is a lottery and you can’t win without buying a ticket
  24. I’m also fairly confident Dovaston will be a Dee, but am also (like others) keen to stress that, although he is the best small forward in this draft, he isn’t of the Nick Watson ilk. The Papley comparison I think was spot on.
  25. B: Salem Petty Lever HB: Jiath Turner Bowey C: Windsor Viney Lindsay HF: Langford Mihocek Chandler FF: Fritsch JvR Melksham FOL: Gawn Rivers Pickett INT: Langdon Culley Steele Tholstrup Heath Adams, Jefferson, Kentfield, Howes, McAdam*, AMW, and our 2 draft picks right on the fringe of best 23 for me. Time to move past May and Sparrow imo. *He was looking very good last preseason prior to the Achilles tear. I know a lot have written him off but I’m hoping against hope that he can become a decent half forward
